Honestly this isn't that difficult. I've been free climbing (some people call it parkour) for years, and this is one of the easiest skills to learn. I did it in tall doorways when i was in gradeschool. All you need is decent footwear and concentration.

If you are training for Ninja Warrior, something like this is perfect. It matches the course. Doing whatever you are suggesting with dirty trees will not help you get past the Spider Climb.
