Amazing. Would have loved to have seen this when it first appeared on the stage under Peter Brooks direction at the RSC in the late '60's. What a shock it must have been.
Damndest thing I finde about this flick, .. it's creepier and more disturbing than just about any horror flick, .. though it really isn't catagorizable as one ?
@ skulldini--you can't catagorize it--it is one of a kind, and was done in a time--60's-- in which this kind of theatre of cruetly was making it's way into the mainstream. It is a brilliant piece. It is of an era when history and theatre were meant to shock. I was lucky to play the part of Corday in a live production, and I have to say it was the most intellectual and exciting work I've ever done.

Thank You so much for uploading the whole thing, I am currently in a performance of Marat/Sade as Duperret and this has helped so much with characterisation :)
Well, brave Charlotte Corday, who did cure the lust for blood of Marat, with his very own lifeblood, belongs to the sort of women, who affirm that the Greek Antigone (as we know her from the plays of Aeschylus and Sophocles) was not a myth after all; as she did no less boldly defended her actions before the state power as Antigone did in the play of Sophocles of the selfsame name:
Antigone: "Yes, because this was not a law decreed by Zeus, nor by Zeus daughter, Justice, who rules with the gods of the Underworld. Nor do I believe that your decrees have the power to override those unwritten and immutable laws decreed by the gods. These are laws which were written neither yesterday nor today but from a time when no man saw their birth; they are eternal! How could I be afraid to disobey laws decreed by any man when I know that Id have to answer to the gods below..."
I was in this musical 10 years ago. Quite a trip.

Much better than most movie musicals like "Sound of Music" or "Moulin Rouge." The ending is one of the rare times Peter Brook shows signs of life.

That ending is obscenely abrupt. Amazingly effective performance and direction. This is... no words. The whole thing is brilliant.
