Absolutely Right. One of the most gifted musicians alive today. You name it, he has done it, in any genre, and done it well. With a style all his own. I love this version although the one with Emmylou Harris is also just wonderful. This song sends chills down my spine every time I hear it
I am just a decent (hobby) musician (sing/keyboards, write a little), but I do have an exceptional "ear" for music of all genres. This song should be ranked as 1 of the greatest songs.....EVER written. Lyrically, it's as deep & powerful as anything that Dylan has ever done. Earle is so under-rated/recognized, it's sickening. Any/everybody I've ever played this song for, was utterly & completely blown away, wanted to know WHO it was, & kicked themselves in the ass for never hearing of Earle.

This is the first song he wrote sober. I heard it the first time on a movie called Big bad love. Had to have it.
