I'm no slap fan myself, but the warmth in the sound combined with the slappin' is just fascinating...

  • Yo! not an easy bassline.... GREAT JOB !!!!

  • @tredogg1 Thank you very much! :)

  • Nice try...still an inaccurate rendition of the original...and a little sloppy.

  • @spiritualmack Yeah. I totally agree with you. I don't like this either. I've been thinking about doing it one again but... I'm too lazy to do and there are lots of songs that I'd like to try. THanks for the comment!! :)

  • @GenixReviews Thanks!! :)

  • Sweet sounding, are you a pro? i am thinking of getting that re-issue, i had one and regret selling it, i just jam at home, but you sound good, thanks for sharing.

  • @MARKLINMAN1 No way! I'm not a PRO. I love Fender re-issue series. I had both 62 and 57 P-Bass but sold them then regret selling them too!! THank you very much!! :)

  • Damn, you did a good job, i can listen to you all day.

  • @swissbeats2k Thanks for the kind comment! :)

  • Appreciate it, you got a really nice understanding of the notes and song.

*Check the length of the notes, especially Those 16th notes to keep the rhythm stable and in time.

  • @blueswan2000 Thank you very very much!!! :)

  • All I can say is AWESOME PERFORMANCE! Love this song by Patrice Rushen; I was only a teenager when it came out. Thanks for posting!

  • @casioplayer Thank YOU for the comment! :)

  • Very well done! What are your strings of choice?

  • @PBasser84 Thanks. I usually use DR Hi-Beam 45-105 for my Jazz bass.

  • @zeppelinus they sound wonderful, thanks for the info.

  • Your tone and technique are straight on it! Great camera angle. Thanks for posting.

  • @bokulaka Thanks for you kind comment!!! :)

  • fantastic!!!

  • @1337tonyb Thank you very much!!! :)

  • @1337tonyb I AGREE THE BASS SOUND SWEET AND ITS CLEAN. FANTASTIC VID.

  • Will Smith - Men In Black :) The same bassline.

  • @Prexi01 Yeah, If I remember correctly, Men In Black sampled this song.

  • well played.

  • @sandmanfinds Thanks for your kind comment. :)

  • I am not a bass player, but am a pro singer, and I'd be proud to have a bass player of your caliber to "play" with! What a pleasure to listen to, "needs improvement notes" below and all! Play on, Funky Bass!

  • Thanks for your pleasant comment! :)

  • sounds different from the live version with lee ritenour

    coool sounds dude, nice tone

    aloha,

  • This is the original version of Forget Me Nots. I watched the version with Lee Ritenour but I much prefer this version, though. THanks!!!

  • uffff cooollll funky funky funky!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! :)

  • saludos desde colombia!!!!!!

  • saludos desde colombia my brother!!!!

  • your a little rough on this but an A for effort. Try to hammer on instead of trying to thumb every note at the end of the main riff. Your not coming across as a fluid player here... Just my humble opinion...

  • Hi! I totally agree with you. I'm way rough on this :( For the main riff, I hear that Freddie hits every single notes with his thumb, not hammer on, maybe I'm not correct but that's what I hear, though. Thanks for the good advice!! :)

  • Sounds great, and nice to hear it on a J :) The original sounded more like a P-bass though - maybe would've got closer with the neck pup solo?

  • I thought I soloed the front pickup to make it sound like P-Bass but I'm not sure right now. I wish I could see the preamp set up on the video though. You are totally right! It would've got closer with the neck pickup soloed. Thanks for the comment!! :)

  • i think you 2 would make good team! cz yr both excellent players

  • Steve Gadd is my NO.1 favorite drummer all time!!! It is so honored to be mentioned with Mr. Gadd but I'm just an amateur bass player and he is one of the best drummers in the world. Thanks for the kind comment!!! :)

  • nice to play along with steve gadd!

  • Steve Gadd played drum on this?

  • Nice Tone, Sounds Great!!

  • Thank you very much!! :)

  • Man, I just can't stop watching your video over and over again, this vibe is so cool, it just makes me move and shake :-) wish I could slap the bass like you do...!!

  • There are many mistakes but thanks for you comment. Anybody can slap better than me!!!! :)

  • man that bass is as clean as it gets

  • Thank You!!!!

  • Sounds Great Deep Vibes!!!!

  • Thanks!!! :)

  • Man your bass sounds awesome!!! I have a original 71 fender jazz as well. I've been considering Sadowsky or Nordstrand preamps for my 71 Jazz...both are awesome...Will see.

Great playing keep up da funk!!!

  • Thank you very much!!! :) I love my Sadowsky preamp but never heard the sound of Nordstrand preamps thou. Whatever you get later, let me hear the sound!!! THanks again!

  • very good bro!

  • Thanks a lot!!! :)

  • Wow!!!So nice...congratulations!!Great tone...beautiful color of your Fender!!!

  • Thank you very much!!!!!!! :)

  • Very cool, deep, pumping bass sound!

I'm impressed with your skills as a bass player! Where did you learn to play so fluently?

  • Thank you very much!!! Actually, I think that this one is the worst video among others I've posted and I'm still clumsy at slapping, thou. I taught myself playing bass and played in a school jazz band before I went to Berklee in Boston to study Music Production & Engineering and I met Anthony Vitti there. Even though I didn't major Bass at the school, I took all of his classes like slap, funk, hiphop classes and private lessons. He helped me a lot!!! I couldn't even slap before Berklee.

  • looks like you've played it slow and sped up the video but realy cool all the same

  • HI! I don't even know how to do that but thanks anyway! :)

  • Really great cover, and that is a fantastic bass you have :)

  • Thanks for you kind words! :)

  • Lovely colour bass mate. Great tone, and good playing too, although a little stiff at times! Don't take that the wrong way, I very much enjoyed the vid, just sometimes felt a little stiff and lost the groove a little. Please check out my vids if you feel so inclined :)

Congratulations on a job very well done mate.

  • You are totally RIGHT!! I know that there are several flaws. It is really hard to play perfect!. Thanks for the good advice and I'll check out your videos as well. Thanks again.

  • No worries, glad my criticism could be useful to you. You played it alot better than I could have! Looking forward to hearing more from you!

  • I checked your videos and you are so much better than me!!!

  • Funky Grove Man

  • Thank you!! :)

  • hey man i liked your vid, you know that difficult part..aah you know what i mean from the main part! try to make a slide to a lower not to make it sound better.

  • Thanks for the great advice. I'll try! :)

  • I love your bass :D

  • So do I !!! :)

  • u got a beautiful sound m8, love the way how like ur bass actually has that type of sound u need like, when u pluck the g string, soundz proper tight and has dat nice strong pluck sound, nice goin m8 :D

  • Thank you very much!! :)

  • out of all the videos of others playing forget me nots on bass, this is the best one. keep up the work!!

  • There are better videos of others playing this tune IMHO. It has many mistakes. Thanks for the nice comment, by the way. :)

  • How did you get it in light blue, that bass is so hot haha.

  • It is more greenish in real life. The official name of the color is Seafoam Green. It is refinished. Thanks!

  • That's good you got soul on that bass!!

  • Thank you!!! :)

  • Very nice slap sound! Sounds very fat overall, the G-string included. I think a G that's not sounding thin is a good indication for the quality of the instrument.

  • Thank you! I think that the set up should be done well for the good G-string sound as well.

  • I think that just about maxes out what can be done with the first 7 frets of a Bass...

    Nice job!

  • Thank You!

  • very nice bass sound, fat

  • Thank You!

  • Shalom Zeppelinus! Good job! I liked this.Ha-Shem bless you...

  • Shalom BigDust200! Thanks, man!

  • is much better than original bass.

  • Thank you! I think so,too. :)

  • Never seen this paint.... Wich re 75 is ?

  • It is American Vintage 75 Reissue Bass. It was originally in Natural color which I hate so refinished in Seafoam Green.

  • how did you refinish it? I want to do the same to the one squier i have.

  • Dawn@nakedbodyguitars did the refinishing job. There are many people refinishing by themselves. I think that they mostly use RERANCH spray to do.

  • Very nice playing and bass.

  • Thanks for the nice comment!

  • Well done bro, nice color too.PEACE

  • Thanks you very much!!! It's one of my favorite colors~~~ :)
