Nothing really in terms of getting stronger. I do it just to track progress. At the NFL combine, for example, I think one of the metrics is seeing for how many reps each player can press 225.

touching your chest is a rookie mistake. it puts the stress on your shoulders (anterior delts) and doesn't work your chest as much. You'll understand when you start benching over 250lbs.
people in the gym at my school always tell me that im not touching my chest but im twice as big as them adn i bench 100 more than they will ever. i go 3 inches from the chest
ymarkman, not telling you how to do your workout (because you are benching more than me), but if you want to break your plateau do about 4 weeks of heavy strength lifting (8-4 reps)...rest for an entire week of no training...and come back with 4 more weeks of high-rep supersets (15-20 bench superset w/ 15-20 pushups. Do 2 sets. Follow with one set of 15-20 incline benches.) The intensity will break you. It works for me.

I didn't try benching until I was 16 and then I started out around 100lbs. So 180 at 14 is great. Though I'm not sure you want to lift too much before your body develops more fully in another couple of years.

Lower reps builds more strength than mass and the dominant type of growth is called myofibrillar hypertrophy. Both are needed or you will eventually plateau. Also it has been demonstrated you can gain new muscle cells through hyperplasia by activating satellite cells using extremely heavy weights in the 1-3 range. stretching of the muscle can also induce hyperplasia to an extent

For power/speed setes like you did I pretty much use the same style, 44 reps is impressive though great muscualr endurance and power, my best at 170 was 35 i think, max 300 with a back arch, but not I could prob hit it flat back now though.
Next time try full reps, its harder when you use your whole chest.

Easssssy. All I was saying is tell us how old are you are so it makes your numbers more interesting, you said when you were 13 your max was 115 and now its 300, for all we know you could have benn like 40 now. so all im saying is to tell us how old you are now so we know how you progressed, and yo 300 thats fuckin sick good job bro.

Cool. My best is 24 reps @ 135 and 7 at 185. My max bench is 230. I'll post a vid of me doing 25 when I get there. Btw, I'm 36 years old and only weigh 150...not bad for an old guy!..lol

hey dude? why do that many reps. The idea to build maxium strength is to do low reps and high weight.

higher reps builds more mass than strength and growth happens mainly through sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. Lower reps builds more strength than mass and the dominant type of growth is called myofibrillar hypertrophy. Both are needed or you will eventually plateau. Also it has been demonstrated you can gain new muscle cells through hyperplasia by activating satellite cells using extremely heavy weights in the 1-3 range. stretching of the muscle can also induce hyperplasia to an extent

I have minor shoulder pain, but it's improving through better training habits. I go to the chest on shorter, slower sets.

Oh you mean you below the nipples, yeah that is a lot better on the shoulders, I do that myself, but not with dumbbells, my mom had shoulder problems bringing it straight down, but when she went below the nipples she could get down al lthe way ;)
For power/speed setes like you did I pretty much use the same style, 44 reps is impressive though great muscualr endurance and power, my best at 170 was 35 i think, max 300 with a back arch, but not I could prob hit it flat back now though.
