Yeah I got my virgin pendolino box and once I tried to put one of the carriages back the end bit snapped of and broke the carrage, common Hornby you can do better than that!!
@InterCity82 your welcome. lol have you or will you you probably be doing an opening of mallard or silver link? i am ordering them tonight and if you could give me some advising on them.
Fantastic review, very detailed, nice track set up as well, great video overall.
I just uploaded a review of a Flying Scot Bachmann set from 1985-89 earlier, and I also own a blue version Royal Scot also from Bachmann, Unfortunately, the Blue Royal set is brand new, but engine is seized. I am in the market for just the engine if you or any viewers may have one spare you could part with.
I added you fav list, much too learn here no doubt, take care....
i just wanted to say tat i enjoy watching your reviews and believe you give fair rulings, i seen a lot of the trains you have and i absolutely fell in love with this set. the loco is stunningly gorgeous along with the tender and the coaches are a beautiful color with the loco's blue, it looks so smooth, i wish i can get it but it's expensive and shipping to the U.S.will kill me. I hope you love this train cause she is my absolute favorite
@martynbrown1970 - hehe, brilliant. I'll do my best to keep all my vids swear free then! I do have some of the Thomas & Friends collection but not many. I tend to focus on real life trains.
Great review! It's really nice to look back at what the one I got would have looked like - I managed to get one on her own on eBay - and I've done her up a bit (painted handrails, crew, cab, smokebox door details etc.). A very interesting thing about this one is the cartazzi trailing truck, with flangeless wheels and a reduced central-driving wheel flange; on my layout I met a problem with some bends on gradients, but it was soon fixed. She's incredibly smooth though, as you say! =)
@DELTICDEMON122 - any swiveling frame of wheels underneath a locomotive or item of rolling stock can also be called a truck. As is typical with the English language, there are multiple names for essentially the same thing. :)
i think that you saying that it would be nice if the air vent opened sorry but hornby dont care about the train they just want the money now i know that there are some manufacturers that do a lot of detail but them trains cost a ton from delticdemon122.
@Liverpoolfcfever - The locomotive is a Princess Coronation class and you can easily get that class of locomotive right now, really easily. However, the 'City of Bristol' is exclusive to this set (as far as I know). (It may have come out a long time ago on its own but the quality won't be as good as this one and it will be hard to find).
@kayneshouse1 - No - it ran in the other half of the country to where I am basing my layout and so I need to keep the numbers of locos from other areas to a minimum - besides, everyone knows the Flying Scotsman, it's far too common and boring for me to look at and it gets far too much attention. I prefer to focus on the trains and sets that aren't quite as famous but just as good if not better.
@yan2001123 - The pronoun "she" is sometimes used to refer to things which can contain people such as countries, ships, or vehicles, or when referring to certain other machines. If used, the terms she, her, and hers apply regardless of the entity's name - for example, "The U.S.S. John F. Kennedy (CVA-67) was laid down October 22, 1964. She was launched on April 1, 1967..."
What do you do with all your trakmats that come with the sets - i'm thinking of buying a set instead of just buying track and locos. thanks for your advice :)
Hi i managed to pick up this brand new from Modelzone in Croyden yesterday, it was priced up as 149.99 and i got on sale for 120.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!, what an impressive set, i am planning on rebuilding my model railway now i have moved house 8 monthes ago, so its great you get a decent amount of track, always glad of spare coaches and a handy little station, the loco is lovely and its i am guessing its Hornbys railroad standard line of models for this one because it lacks any superdetail
@hihat101 - I don't think it's either a Railroad model or a superdetail model. But what I do know is that for a model that comes in what is essentially a train set, it's very impressive.
@samster412 - it came from an excellent shop called Trident Trains (search for them on Google, they have a website) and it was a bargain £130 instead of £180
In O Scale, MTH made the Princess Coronation engines like that one in the set but it's called "Duchess of Atholl". They also made a set of blood & custard coaches to go with her which you have to buy seperately.
when i had bought my pendolino i first had it on the floor and my dad kept asking me to put it back in the boxes but two couplings snaped. in the end i got it on base boards now and i got free spare couplings from the hornby helpline.
@123garryharry - I never recommend them be put back in the box. Never. If you must put them away, wrap them in something like bubble wrap and then place them in a big cardboard box or something.
@oricalcross - Digital Command Control, basically, controlling trains digitally. The power is always on - and the trains listen out for signals, telling them what to do.
Hornby really has rubbishy packaging for locos. I don't know why they can't embrace the plastic packaging like Bachmann has with locomotives. Hornby's already done it for some of their coach range in the last few years and for their locos back in the 80's.
@2009Buzza - lol. Well, no, not 3 year olds. But then I think it does say something like 7+ or 8+ on the box. So I assume people can think for themselves a tiny bit :D
@MrJezza31 - it's risky. I put A4 Falcon back in her box, and it was so tight that some of her detail snapped off. I will never recommend putting Hornby locos and rolling stock back into Hornby packaging like that used for the sets. It's much better to wrap the loco or coach/wagon up in a tea-towel and to place that in a normal box.
@A4Express - it's risky. I put A4 Falcon back in her box, and it was so tight that some of her detail snapped off. I will never recommend putting Hornby locos and rolling stock back into Hornby packaging like that used for the sets. It's much better to wrap the loco or coach/wagon up in a tea-towel and to place that in a normal box.
i got the royal scot set 4 christmas last year and we had 2 send it back twice. 1st time because the piston kept clicking out, and when we got it back we realised the chassis was wonky. also like you said the packaging is rubbish because the it's 2 tight and i nearly broke her because 1 elephant ear is under the polystyrene and the other is on top. it's especially bad because you can't see that with the tissue paper on. other than that she's ok i'd say.
Heh yeah after getting my first new set from Hornby in about... 16ish years (Picked up the City Industrial Set for quite a bargain price) I have to say the polostyrine packaging leaves alot to be desired, Once I took out the loco ect I definatly did not want to put her back in.
@Femmenition it depends where you go, i got mine for £190 around February. well worth it, it's just a shame that more of the Duchesses didn't survive into preservation.
@capmodesty Yeah no kidding :P, Think I would hold off getting one of these untill I find space for a proper layout to be built in to get the most out of running her on it.
Yeah I got my virgin pendolino box and once I tried to put one of the carriages back the end bit snapped of and broke the carrage, common Hornby you can do better than that!!
