  • Hopefully you already made your trip back while america is alive. We're heading for tyranny with increasing laws to choke out any civil liberties. People are still delusioned by the appearance of freedom, but the new laws tell a different story. If I were you, I'd stay in Japan until after the revolution because it's coming. Set aside all nationality, this is the battle of the masses versus the "elites" who wish to control everyone.

  • i like your theme song thing..

  • You sir are my F*cking hero!

  • Thanks from a recent subscriber! Your story mirrors mine.

  • love it!!! the ending line is SO true! Especially for us who's parents came from somewhere!

what languages do you wanna teach your kids?

    All the best :D

  • @totaldramaqueen108

What language? Hmmm.... good question. Not sure.

  • I'm not a US Citizen yet, I'm a legal Honduran in the USA, and as this guys said it "You may never love me, but I will always love you America"

  • Gimmeabreakman,

I have watched your videos for some time, and I agree with your more often than not, and I couldn't agree with your more on this topic. Glad you haven't got swept up in the anti-American sentiment that seems to be so popular these days. There is no place on this rock like America. Period.

I think America loves you about as much as any inanimate object, theory, or concept can love anyone, for the record.

  • I suppose coming from Peru to America may be a step up, but America is hardly a very decent place compared to European or even Canadian standards.

I'm glad to hear things worked out for this guy, but this is an extremely rare case (if it is even true).

Most immigrants come to America poor and die in America poor. The "american dream" is just that, a dream. It's not real... and unfortunately it can turn into a nightmare for many families.

  • Time to come back home!! Teach Eikaiwa to illegals. You know more and more people in the States care more about CINCO DE MAYO than Fourth of July if you live certain parts of the country especially in California(aka MEXIfornia- LA). America is losing its own identify before you know it. Illegal immigration must stop!! Oh yeah you don't mind newly arrived immigrants not learning ENGLISH. Hey America is a land of opportunity but you have to come there LEGALLY.

  • What's your point?

  • You like Japan but why waste your talent when demand is high for ESL teachers in the States?? Hey thanks for sharing your story about your parents from Peru but didn't they came to the States LEGALLY? Hey there's a new trend in America since it's ok to come here whether you are legal or ILLEGAL. To make matters worse, learning English is no longer a priority for some people since by LAW local towns and cities must present in both English and Spanish!! Hey just visit MEXIfornia.

  • So your logic is... I should be a patriot and teach in the USA?

  • @Gimmeabreakman I think its awsome how you and your dad didn't try to keep your same ways, just your heritage. You and you dad learnd english, became citizens and got educated you guys didn't force Americans to accommodate your unwillingness to change and accept American life like most illegals. Gimmeabreakman man, I think its awsome how you know english, spanish, and japanese to me your a real inspiration.

  • @Gimmeabreakman Great story!!! Very well done! Because of comments like this is a huge reason why Id love to live a good portion of my remaining years abroad. Man, the arrogance! Sure things have massively changed since the beginning of our country but the people of this mindset have not a sense of history. Hello, the whole melting pot thing?....!!! British, Niederlander,Spanish,French bet english wasnt spoken 100% then as now. That attitude is so antiAmerican. MORONS! B legal ideally I agree.

  • Pt2 it would seem that novajoke stance on language and immigration is clouded by overtones of racism towards Mexicans specifically. As if spanish is such an inferior thing. Spaniards are European and they discovered the Americas Thats who even gave us our name. Through out history we could have been any number of "Nationalities" but we are who we are because of the blood n sweat &spirit of ppl of all nationalities pulling together for a common cause. That commnt is very against that spirit.

  • @edtomorrow

My comments were based on satire on the whole language industry in Japan. I already apologized to gimmeabreakman in regards to this. If you want racism...... see for yourself in the State of California.... coming from "both sides" when it comes to debate with English language here or Spanish language here.

As for MEXIfornia even Latinos get a kick out it when they hear that instead of Cali.

  • not corny whatsoever.

i believe that America can give you a chance, it just depends how you will assume the yourself to actually use the opportunity to help yourself.

i'm glad that your parents succeeded and passed on their values of hard work and education to you.

    good story.

  • This guy reminds me of Kyle Cleveland, a professor at Temple University Japan.

  • Your awesome man! Way to go! : )

  • america loves you too.

  • Great story Vic It's nice to know a little more about you. But I wonder if your still planing on leaving Japan some day.

  • Thanks America for bringing a Peruvian YouTuber to Japan! XD

Cool to see the wedding pictures. My parents lived in HI for ten years.

Peru is a very interesting place. It's got some intriguing ruins no one can explain, such as the megalithic fortress of Sacsahuaman and the huge trident carved into the hillside at the Bay of Pisco.

The folk music of the Andes is also very nice.

  • Can a gaokokujin ever really be accepted as part of Japanese society?

I think no. Even if you were born in Japan.

    What do you think?

  • I disagree.

  • Why?

  • Only the toughest of Ancestors made it in America, the rest go home.

  • Magi looks so young in this.

  • all that talk about blood made me queasy

  • woooww how do you manage to go live in so many other countries? is it your job?

  • Yeah, I guess so.

  • What do you mean when you say that America will never love you? Are you talking about the people of America or the government, or is it something else?

  • Great story victor!!! We need more of these great storyss

  • Oh my god man!! Im peruvian too!! I used to live in the USA as well.. I have to make a video response, I'll make it later on today.

  • your Story sugoiiii

  • You guys lived together alone? Sweet.

  • Israel is ANTI-SEMITIC, and they are global money suckers who obey it too now,

Try asking anything about Judaism at YAHOO ANSWERS to learn there and they act like it is a crime if your not JEWISH!

  • awesome vid

  • from one American to another - great video. You are very welcome. Go VH

  • Wow! Thanks!

  • gay..

  • orly?

  • This story is just excellent. You really articulated the greatness of America, in a vicious climate of America-haters as of late.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

  • peace be with you and yours!

  • I came back this year for another 5*s and proudly have it featured on my channel.

  • Thanks, woman!

  • I stumbled on this last year and tagged it as a "favorite". It will be an annual ritual for me to pull it back up, watch it, forward it to friends and remember why I'm so proud to live in this country. It IS a great place, warts and all, because people with roots all over the world like you, Gimmeabreakman, choose to call it home. (Even when you are living somewhere else!:)

Best wishes for a great Independence Day !

  • Thanks! Appreciate it!

  • i have same story i live in usa for 6 years now and evry single day i thanks god for that, and GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • Great video! America continues to be the shining hope to the world. If you move to Switzerland you will never be swiss. If you move to China, you will never be chinese. But move to America and you become an American. Glad you came. I hope you come back!

  • America is a fat whore

  • What the hell is wrong with your brain?

  • Excellent story and America is proud of your parents and you. You are exactly the kind of person we want and need in this country. America is still the melting pot of the world and America is the greatest country in the world, and people like you are what makes it that way. Bless you and your new wife.Come to Colorado and I'll take you both to dinner.I'm gonna subscribe to your channel. Thanks for the story

  • great story, much respect

  • Ich rasier deine BANANA

  • America is still number one in my heart. Nice video, Victor. Come visit anytime!

  • Please, Consider writing down what you are going to say. You can get to your central points more quickly. 1 star FAIL

  • Hey, iiiears, I am sure your comment is directed at Victor, so why did you reply to my comment? Consider it next time.

  • Oh...iiears hurt my feelings. Read the comments, buttlick. You stand alone.

  • nice video

  • awsome vid dude.. with a strong mind directed at a goal greatness can be achieved..like your father obviously did ^^ i think the problem with many young is that when you are born into a "good" country and have mutch more then you need from birth that goal is harder to find.. and i guess.. careing less for the future..

  • The icon for this video makes Victor look like a super model :)

  • Some idiots choose not to hear

    5 stars

  • LOL, I could not stop laughing!!!

  • If this was directed at me, well... some idiots judge without the least knowledge of circumstances.

If not, ignore this, my mistake.

  • I can barely hear you.

    Sorry, one star.

  • Check your speakers. This video has never had that complaint.

  • yup, must be your pc venomous, sound is fine...

  • Get a better computer!

  • That is the sound of the wind. Window is open!

  • clean your teeth man, fuck

  • Some people got that color teeth, That's correctable of course, but alterations would not be natural (analogy - plastic surgery).

  • My teeth are made of playdough.

  • so how did their teeth get like that??? its' not natural then so stop this natural bs and this guy is pissing me off, he's preaising the US just b/c his father came here and was somewhat successful. Well, that's only b/c your father was a smart man and he could've been successful somewhere else as well. You're forgetting all the crimes that the US has done in the past century and just focusing on something so small

  • Yeah, as if your impotent Canada is a better place to live. I wonder why is that so many canadians migrate each year to work in the United States? Don't you love paying taxes to your british muslim overlords?

  • first of all I'm not Canadian but anybody with half a brain can see that Canada is the bestplace on earth in terms of education, safe living conditions etc..Me and my family emigrated here 8 years ago and my dad was never able to get the job he wanted but never the less he was somewhat successful;he was never pressured to change his culture or the way he lived just because he came to Canada which is another good thing.I'm also going to the 27th university in the world w/o having to pay thousands

  • I guess they don't teach good manners in canadian schools. Well egocentric individuals somehow make their way into Canada and I hope never to see your kind on American soil.

  • Nice!

  • Nice!

  • Nice!

  • lol if disagreeing equals bad manners than I guess I'm guilty. And an American talking about egocentricity is incredibly ironic; don't believe me? ask anyone from any country on this planet.

  • Nimroo..you are socially dysfunctional. Do you walk into supermarkets and scream that they should send the food to Africa? Of course not. Simple message to you. THIS IS A THANK YOU AMERICA VIDEO. Their are plenty of "fuck you America" videos. Go away.

  • I don't give a shit about Africa and about the US, but when America is destroying and interfering in everybody else's culture and business I can't stand to see these stupid videos. You can be proud of America all you want but don't expect me to not get pissed when the country you're praising has basically destroyed the democracy in my country (mosadegh in the 50's) and is now planning to attack the regime they put in place and in the process kill millions of my country men

  • wow! You really did not understand my argument. You are stupid. go away. get an ejimication.

  • Nimrooo: ". . . Canada is the bestplace on earth in terms of education . . ." Are you sure about that? I would say that the UK offers the best education.

  • It depends on what you classify as education. As far as primary and secondary school go, Norway is leaps and bounds ahead of any other country in the world. However university education is best in the USA and UK for top institutions. Although the average American institution isn't very good, I don't know how the average university in the UK is. Canada's average university is pretty darn good.

  • Hey Nimrod.... I can bash the USA easy. ANYONE can.. this is not about that. Why are people too stupid to realize that there is a time and place for everything.

I hope you are at least a punk kid.

  • positive words of america = bunch of dumbasses giving you 1 star

  • epiclalz---If you feel that strong in your anti-American sediments why are you living here? A smart guy like yourself surly would find a better country and people. Now I'm not talking about government, those of us who love our country have to fight to change that. Of course running and blaming seems to suit many.

  • did u read my comment? i said that people were giving him low star ratings just because he had something good to say about the U.S. ya doofus

  • epiclalz--sorry you are right, but doofus i'm going to disagree, just over reacting because of all the anti-U.S. BS

My apologies, I didn't read your comment correctly.

  • please go poop in a bucket

  • epiclalz--Glad you are capable of acting like an adult. Just another juvenile ass.

  • internet: serious fucking business

  • epiclalz---If you feel that strong in your anti-American sediments why are you living here? A smart guy like yourself surly would find a better country and people. Now I'm not talking about government, those of us who love our country have to fight to change that. Of course running and blaming seems to suit many.

  • Thank you for sharing your story.

Funny coincidences; I'm living in Alabama currently (I'm NOT from Alabama) but will be moving to Japan in a few months.

I found your videos by searching for Japanese lessons and I'm I glad to have discovered yours! Please keep it up!

  • Gimmeabreakman—I see ppl are still attacking u for your message, again allow me to thank u for speaking truthfully with you're heart. I think we might disagree about illegal immigration but so love the success stories about legal immigration. Too bad it's soo fashionable to discredit the U.S. for anything good. I'm not a Bush fan and I somewhat blame him, but I don't see our picks any less corporate controlled, just McCain I think is unstable. Your story is great, and more should speak up like u

  • Okay, your parents are immigrants, thats why youre successful. If your great-grandparents immigrated, it would be a guarantee, then you would be dam fat and stupid

  • I'm British, but this was quite an interesting story. I think it's also interesting that there are people like you with the same story just from different countries, rock on.

  • i see some are unable to seperate 'government' from 'country' and 'people'.

living in a different country gives a benchmark to where you came from and what it is to be (in your case) american. the insight it gives can be immense - i would have liked to seen this fleshed out more in your vid. btw you have an eery orange glow about you in this vid.

  • When I seen this video I sighed. Let me tell you why. America doesnt do anything for YOU(in your case, your father). You do it for yourself,as it should be. America just gets out of the way. Atleast it use too. Know this sir, it was all your parents and nobody else. No politican made your parents. oh yeah, sitting down while you pee, makes you less of a man;)

  • When you are older..you'll understand more.

  • Dont get me wrong, America is the best. The problem I have is when people think that government needs to "help". American government needs to do something for someone. Thats why we are getting 600 bucks from the government in a so called stimulus package. When people look twoards government and not themselves thats when thing go to poop. Your father lived the American dream and its all thanks to him and nobody else. Except for the people that died for that freedom.

  • I think I misunderstood your original post. But... just to make sure. I don't really thank the government. It think it is too simplistic to say America is a certain thing only... it is NOT just the government. And it is not JUST the people. But YES, it is thanks to my father. But it could not have happened in Peru. Or at least very doubtful.

  • Yes your right, not in peru. What I am trying to say is that, all America did is get out of the way of your parents to achieve their dreams to the best of thier ability. In the rest of the world, you are either born into money or your not. I wish you were still in America because we need people like you here. Bring your family, we need all the red blooded americans we can get.

  • gimmeabreakman,

that was a most interesting vid sir. I wish Americans were more ambitious as your family was/is. I'm very glad that fate grated your family the opportunity and all of you made the best of it. I'm an American wanting to learn Japaneses culture. I'll get there one day when i finish learning Japaneses. kudos victor-san (^_^)

  • The thing is... your family came from outside of the United States and found your "American Dream." WebPundit is complaining about exactly this - that people who are born in America and have always lived here do not have the same intelligence or willpower to succeed. Don't get me wrong, my parents immigrated to the US as well when I was young and our life is fabulous compared to what it could have been. But man, Americans don't do as well as us because... they're dumb and unwilling.

  • Nice video but you take the negative comments to your video too seriously. Keep up the work. Its interesting to see that the people most proud of America live elsewhere. =p

  • Ya might be right. Should not take the positive ones too seriously either? .... I think I should not. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • KAKOIIIIIIII

  • Awesome story, well told ^.^

  • You should know america isn't the only country you can "make it" in.

  • I do know that. But that is irrelevant to the video.

  • Maybe, but you americans could really learn to be a little more humble. You're not the only democracy in the world, and yet you act like you are.

  • You non-Americans could learn to judge us Americans as individuals. This video says nothing to support your believe. You read that into. My aunt lives in Germany and is very happy. My cousin is in Switzerland and loves it. This video does not show me acting like the USA is the only democracy in the world. JEEZ!

  • Awsome vid man, i also have a similar story but kudos on the real message. Although there are some points where our country can improve... healthcare, legal system... etc etc, this place sure as HELL beats the other options i would have ended up with, and I can truly say that i'm proud to be an American.

  • I can't believe I never saw this one before.

Your family's story is an inspiring one.

    Wow.

Nothing eloquent to say. Just 5/5 and (finally) faved.

  • Thanks, Curt!

  • I envy you, Japan is an awesome place to visit, and japanese girls are cute. I really admire your father's brave story.

But there's a sad thing here, that there're millions in Peru living in poverty, while Peru is a big country with a lot resources, full of hardworking people like your father.

Why people should go to America to be happy? Why can't people be happy in their own countries? Those are my questions.

  • Who said people are not happy in Peru.

I'm just saying I am grateful to America. I highly doubt I could've ended up in Japan if my pop had stayed in Peru. But would I have been happy? Probably... but in a different way.

  • You said you can only make it in America.

Well i know that live is though in Japan and Peru, but it's also though in America.

I understand that Peru has lots of issues, thats really sad. What i wonder is why a talented man like your father, and you btw, didn't stay in Peru and help that wonderful country to become a better place.

America has no room for more people, watch the news. Unless you go with a nice looking passport from Japan or Europe, you're not welcome anymore.

  • I think it's a great story...not many families are as lucky as yours...

    saludos...

  • This is going to sound bad... but there is something incredibly attractive about you. Haha

  • you compare a corporate entity with a country? Thats sick, man...

Good that your father was not Islamic, cos then he would never have come to the US and if he did, you would not be being so proud of your 'company'. Liberty and equality huh?

Btw: 'I feel more American than ever before' - how do you define being an 'American'?

Go on and live in your paradoxical moment of mental masturbation. Think before you make a video!

  • Speaking of mental masturbation, I hope you cleaned up after typing out this crap. It is so obvious that you are quite PLEASED with yourself.

  • My state of self-appreciation is a rather different subject of discussion than your uncritical embracement of the American Dream. Try something constructive when you decide to hit the reply button.

  • OK, let's try again.

This was made on the 4th of July. Check the date. It is not a criticism or even an acknowledgment of all the problems we have in the USA. It is merely a "THANK YOU, USA for the life you gave my family."

    BTW, you are an asshole.

  • I wonder, does the American life make you vocally aggressive or is aggression genetically embedded...

Anyways, does the Fourth of July imply a day of non-constructive criticism? I think it should rather be a day of reflexive thought, rather than uncritical embrace of the status quo.

BTW, I dont think you are an arse.

  • Impressed.

Jeez... I live faraway now. I missed my country. I made a frigging video. I know the USA is full of problems. ONE video does not represent blind love. Then I have to read a bunch of moronic messages trying to second guess my motives or trying to get me to wake up and smell the coffee.

    Thanks but no thanks.

And yes, it makes you all assholes for not thinking twice before leaving stupid comments. that assume SOOO much.

  • Assume? Read my comments:

-I dont think it is ethical (in my definition of that term) to confuse a company with a country.

-The American Dream, if existent at all, cannot be glorified without looking at its drop-outs (of which there are too many)

    - 'Paradoxical' then, it is certainly when thinking of the latter. Maybe 'mental masturbation' is too much, Ill give you that. But then again, as you said yourself, everybody does that probably...

  • I think we are different in many aspects, I have lived away from my country for a long time, but I would never consider hanging a flag behind me to confirm my longing. Home is where the heart is and I find it difficult to embrace that fact in geographical, static boundaries. But that is just me, everybody his/ her thing.

  • Pseudo-intellectual alert!

  • Haha! That's funny. I'm about as intellectual as ...uh... see! I got nothing.

  • Oh gosh I'm such a fangirl of your video's! XD I think i've seen all of them o.o anyways I love America! I'm glad to be here. Besides some of the stupid polititians and bad racisim it's great. I seriously thought this was the most racist country. But america sure is going downhill though hate to see what it'll be in 20 years. I don't think that we will have freedoms that we have now (religion =[) And every school is trying to rewrite history. I worry too much to be 13 =[ How depressing.

  • Not corny at all.

I'm glad to have stumbled across your Japanese Language videos. I personally did not find Japanese to be the most difficult language, specially now that I'm learning Greek ...

  • Gimmeabreakman sorry to tell you this, but you are not an american your a wetbag:D

  • Spelling please.

    I think you meant "wetback".

And wetbacks can be Americans too.

  • I loved your story very inspiring, I knew you were from south american, i was thinking if you had a latin - japanese mix.

I had a very nice time in Japan, thank you, i started to miss it already. Nagoya seemed beautiful, although i only saw if from the train station, anyways hope you make an spanish speaking video sometime! bye bye

  • Can't we all just get along?!?!

  • Gimmeabreakman,,,seeing ur video make me and other Americans proud. Sadly it seems you have to defend yourself for loving your country and if you don't immerse yourself in your Peruvian heritage, you're attacked even though your heritage is also U.S.. Confusing is many white born here r telling you have to do the same thing. Plus you seem happy and I don't a better definition of the American dream than that. Many r jealous and bullies hating the U.S. for ur representation of what the U.S. is.

  • I don't worry too much about the haters. Everyone has my agenda. My video is simple. No agenda. Just a simple believe that my life today is better thanks to my father moving us to America. Could it have been better if we had moved to France or Germany? Maybe, but that is not what happened. Thanks for the comment.

  • My Point is that you have the blood of many generations of wondering tribes in your blood. Nothing to do with the United States. You have a shot many places around the world and you always will.

  • Yeah, that has no bearing on anything. EVERYONE on the world is linked by common ancestors. So what? It's nature vs nurture. Nurture is significant.

  • Also you would not be in Japan if your Indian ancestors did not cross the land bridge from Northern Mongolia 10,000 years ago and populate North and South America before it was called America.

  • Your point?

  • this is self absorbed masturbation

  • Do what you must....just wipe up after you are done.

  • You say your family's merit is all due to "America"? (you know Peru is america too, so call it US!) would they have done worse in any other developed country? No they would have done much better. For starters you wouldn't be renegading your ancestral blood with an imperialist flag behind you but talking about culture instead. Lameculos indeed, *laugh*

  • Simple question. When I say American, do you understand what I mean? Is there any other country in North, Central or South America that has AMERICA in the title? No. THere is ONLY the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Stop being stupid please. Thank you.

  • I understand what you mean, do you understand what I mean? clearly not.

  • What is the purpose of your comments? To make me hate America?! LOL! Good luck! This is not saying other countries suck. It is just a thank you to AMERICA on July 4th. That is all. Do you think another family could have raised you better? WHo knows?! What is the point of thinking about that?

  • My point? See you didn't understand? You are thanking a nation where you should be thanking only your parents and yourself. If you had gone to another country you would have done well all the same, so the US is irrelevant. Actually if you had gone to Finland or Australia your videos would be a lot more fun and less corny! No? Still don't get it? *sigh*

  • You have a very superficial view; look deeper. Many immigrants long for their homeland...Your experience is nothing new or special; in terms of world history. It happens to many people from many places around the world.

  • cool vid man!

  • Thanks, dante144...Your name looks very familiar...

  • twat!!! twatish!!!

  • Make up your mind.

  • luls

  • PERUANO LAMECULOS

  • LOL! Idiota.

  • NO PUEDO POSTEAR

  • Yes that is what makes America so great. It wouldn't be called the land of opportunity for nothing. I respect that you express your gratitude to this country that gave you so much, and to your father that made that brave leap. You are a proud American, a great example of what makes America so great, and for that America is proud of people like you.

  • Yet this country has some serious problems. The constitution itself is being violated by the very same people in office who claim to serve in the interests of it's people. This country is losing itself, and the principles that it was based on is gradually being marginalized. This country has done more for the cause of liberty and freedom than any other nation in history. I don't want that to end. Let's not ignore these problems.

  • Your father was one of the very lucky few that could go to america then, nowadays normal american people find it their duty to kill anything that tries enter america through the desert, like mexicans for example

  • How many languages will you teach your kids?

My half brother grew up speaking swedish to his mom, finnish to dad and french at school.

He turned out pretty well, tho a perv he might be... effectively trilingual.

  • Gimmemeabreakman, its against youtube policy to say anything positive about the U.S., remove this video immediately.

  • Right away, sir!

  • I lol'd heartily.

  • Believe me all that work would never have paid off back in Peru.

  • ok this is really simple.

America is neither the greatest nation, nor the worst. Get used to it. lol

  • hey man , must hurt quite a bit when ur telling harmless life story n some punk throw in some

irreresponsible comment just to get on ur nerves isnt it! but dont mind them! just keep on

    making videos!

  • hi , what's a 'yank'?

    ok bye

  • Yes you are right but what happened to you is probably very rare.

  • roboto

  • "Got a scholarship"? Is that some kind of smoke-screen for being an illegal alien? Sounds a bit fishy to me.

  • college.

  • nope
