  • Who was the woman sitting next to James Levine?

  • Glass ceiling for sopranos? If there is one profession where women do not have to worry that a man will take their job, that one would be Opera Soprano!

  • Thanks for sharing this video, nysunoutandabout!

  • Student night at the opera house in my city I've noticed most of the female high school students only come so they have another excuse to wear their prom dresses again.

  • Ha, ha, love Parker Posey's humour - and Renée's, too! Thanks to Peter Gelb for bringing the opera to the millions unable to make it to the Met or many/any opera house where they are!

  • Every time I go to the opera I hear someone saying that the singers of the last generation were better. So Tibbett was better than Warren, Merrill was better than Milnes, Muzio was better than Callas. But don;t you understand? they are dead now. Caruso is dead so he cannot sing better than anybody. Well it is always better than hear people talking about the Stock Market in the intermission. The last night game is even worst.

  • What a great idea to share these fantastic opera productions with the rest of the world by transmitting live to cinemas everywhere! It was thrilling to see Tosca, Aida and, yesterday, Turandot while Renee Fleming presented Aida and gave us a look back stage. Thank you so much!

  • That is a great role for her, but she is really offensively self-absorbed. I find her voice boring, but beautiful. If you can't can't mold the voice to express the personality of the character, you are really just vocalizing. But for better or worse this is her true fach and her voice is used best in these roles. But of course, my memory is long and I remember Renata Scotto and Teresa Stratas along with Pavarotti and Kraus and Carrerras. So she doesn't look so important in their company.

  • Why do you say she's self-absorbed?

  • An artist is self-absorbed (and I do see that she sings extremely well in Boheme) when the vocal color, projection, accents, characterization remain effectively the same in all the roles they take on. Such is the case with Fleming. The placement is perfect, effortless in production, but there is always, for my money, a huge chunk of melodrama missing when she is through with a performance. Although the public is enthralled, so who am I to judge?

  • wow. just, wow. amazing.

  • Sheesh...talk about high society! I'd give anything to be there.

  • You don't know what you are wishing for!

  • OMG Renee Looks Spectacular! I love you Renee, would you please, Marrry me?

  • About time that they gave the opening night to a soprano. And they couldn't have chosen a more wothy soprano or a nicer lady for the honour than Renée. Bravo!!!
