  • Can you skid

  • Only belt I need is for my pants.

  • Looks like an answer to a problem that doesn't exist - chains work why mess with belts. I ride a Fixie Inc Backspin it's chain drive, fixed and fantastic.

  • @tonyk21463 looks like you know nothing about belt drives. its maintenance free, lasts at least twice as long, no lubrication needed, no dirty pants

  • my head hurts, i dont like change

  • when was this filmed?

  • how do you saw the frame to put the belt?

  • How easy/difficult it is to break the belt? I mean that looks something someone tries to break.

  • @kanervatie It's very difficult to "break" or "snap" the belt, but it isn't difficult to get the belt to slip or competely pop off the front cog. I almost got killed when I crashed my '10 Trek District in traffic because the belt popped off. Gates says it themselves on their website in the FAQ section that if the belt even slips it's "likely been damaged and needs repalcement." There goes $130. Belts are not worth the hassle.

  • @tonyg749 Ok, good post. Not that I'm ever going to buy anything with belt-drive on it. Long live chains and my Peugeot-fixie. lol

  • Hey guys. Just a word of warning from someone who spent $1k on a Trek District w/ belt drive: Belt drives are nothing but hype. In fact, they are dangerous. The first day I took my new District out I was pedaling through an intersection from a dead stop. (I was pedaling very hard since there were cars behind me.) All of a sudden the belt popped off and I went flying off the bike after my feet slipped off the pedals. I landed on the road and luckily the lady behind me slammed her brakes on

  • @tonyg749 You should quit riding bikes.

  • Chains last FOREVER.Ive pulled long lost bikes out of creeks and in dump piles that dont have any problem riding

  • @AcaAllertor127 ill believe that when i have one that does. i've snapped tons of chains

  • Hey guys wasn't Santos bike company the very first with a belt driven one? Nice bikes you have by the way, when is it coming to the Netherlands? Grüβe von einer Fahrradkurier aus Amsterdam Fietsvriend=Fahrradfreund

  • Those bars are very nice!

  • Trek does it, sorry

  • sory Treks is a single-speed not a fixie!

  • Amend that...Treks is an 8-speed. not a fixie

  • @divinexbrutality Trek District

  • how long do they last in relation to chains?

  • it's a Harley Davidson belt!

  • these are getting out, i seen some at a bike shop, and its really smooth, looks fucking tight... if i had the $ i would buy it

  • what i wont to know is how do you get the belt on the bike theres no master link and it has to go through the frame

  • 0:15 "We just took an old frame and put a coupler in it on the right seat stay to get the belt into the rear triangle"

  • I just purchased a belt driven beach cruiser,3 speed, made by GT and have had nothing but troube so far. Right now in the shop for almost 2 weeks and they don't know why gears slip when I put torque on it. Other than that it was a super smooth ride.

  • Trek make one of these

  • i almost bought one

  • that thing looks retarded...

  • As if you know anything...

  • whats the point

  • Because you can! haha what's the point of most things? It's stripping the bike of all the stuff that needs to be fixed over time. You have more control as well as greater power lose in the up stroke.

I JUST helped build one today on an old 70s motobecane frame! Lots of fun!

  • First of all riding a fixed gear bike without brakes is dumb. A belt drive will work just as well as a chain so as long as you don't skid stop. You don't know if the belt may slip or snap. There is also a higher chance of the belt stretching over time if you skid a lot. So do yourself and others a favor and put on some brakes.

  • If you know how to ride the bike you wont have any issues. I know plenty of people riding fixed gear bikes without brakes. The belt is also extremely well designed so the stretch idea and skipping is not a question. You have more of a chance of the rear sprocket unscrewing from the hub then the belt EVER having issues. There are timing belts on cars that get more strain then this belt with poorer construction!

  • looks ugly.

im stickin with ma gold chain

  • forces, sorry.

  • can it stand up to the forced of skidding?

  • yeah this is awesome i want a ride setup like that

  • sehr schönes design

    I like it very much

Those bars are also very cool btw.

    Greetz from the Netherlands

  • How did you guys create the rear cog? Is this available through Gates or the manufacturer. I have a cross bike but would love the option of going fixed with another frame. Are you guys working these after market with a custom rear cog! Sweet idea and I really want to convert my current fixie! How can I do this with you guys (purchase a rear cog??)

  • Looks fun!

  • Great video!
