  • Can someone please give a reference to good form? Evey book, dr.'s article, and physical trainer I ever talked to have all said the same thing, bouncing is bad, butt off the bench is bad. Where does it say it's ok?

  • For all the ppl that prob dnt study exercise science its just a different technique. his 'bouncing technique is a lot harder than it seems and for the person below that said he's catching the weight at his chest -_- dropping 225 on your Sternum.. come on man. The quick pop helps to explode thru your whole body his only mistake during this was raising his lower back..if he could do that same technique while keeping his back down he would be a lot stronger and more explosive

It is mechanically the best way to bench to maximize weight. Flat back is for models and bodybuilders and people trying to look good, not athletes

Im not a self proclaimed expert I like exercise science and its something i've learned after years of back arching

But even you would have a stronger bench with an arched back if you learned perfect form

  • @angryahole How do you test "raw strength"? Film study can be scued, the competition for someone may be different from someone else, the team they play are different, each goes through different injuries and what not. So how do you test raw strength?

  • they aint reps!!! bouncing off you r chest gives a lot of leverage for the next rep with the added momentum also. it takes some doing that weight & stuff but more controlled and better timing he probs would only have achieved 20-25 reps maximum.

  • @Km4rT94 He isn't bouncing the weight off his chest. That's an illusion caused by video tape. It is touching his chest; him dropping the weight and changing its momentum quickly gives it the illusion that he's bouncing it.

  • If you can press pause fast enough to catch the barbell right at the point of impact where it bounces off his chest, you can see how the barbell pushes his chest down... scary.
