i dont like the word criticism.better we comment.these guys are top players.with regard to ron carter his strenth is bass accompanyist.if you get my meaning.he walks great has a nice big fat tone and good pitch.ive listened to him for 40yrs and soloing is not his thing.just my2 pence l.o.l many thanks tubemacs57.
The pitch of Ron Carter is sometimes not so accurate... but who cares? His bass line is both melodic and rhythmic, full of creative ideas....an incredible bass master
Rehauser is saying. It's starts off a litle funny. Billy is incredible and so is Carter
(usually)but it takes them a little time to get it in the pocket. I don't care how great you are, you gotta keep it simple baby. Carter is rushing his solo a little. It's not the tastiest I've heard. He's obviously great but I don't feel a lot of soul from him. He's very intellectual kinda shit.
It seems the problem here is that Carter's bass isn't in tune to start with. However, he is one of the greatest, despite his overshadowing by Hancock and Williams in Davis' group. Furthermore, those albums they recorded for Columbia didn't show the bass in a good light at all - Carter was barely audible at times. However, hear anything he recorded in RVG's studio as a sideman, then you'll hear how great he is!
He's a great player but unfortunately not the nicest person. I met him on a few occasions. He's pretty cold. But he is one of the greatest bass players of all time.
Wonderful playing by the big three....this is quality jazz at its BEST!!!!! There is where it's at!

"If I We're A Bell" is a great tune and this version is reminiscent of Miles Davis' album "Relaxin".

Just my opinion.

I've seen Ron Carter many times in NYC.

go see him play at birdland or the blue note and tell me that, or better yet, why not listen to anything he did with miles in the 60's?

a musician such as carter is beyond criticism by amateurs (or anyone, for that matter).
