This was one of the best shockers in TV that I can remember in recent History. The finale setup that everything was gonna be alright, weight would be lifted. Than the last scene where harrison is in a pool of blood and rita dead in the bathtub just blew me away. I'm still recovering from it and can't wait for season 5.

Really? You actually liked Rita? I gotta say..I'm sorry for Dexter and the children. But I was dancing around the room with joy at the fact that Rita was dead. John Lithgow is now officially my favorite actor ever! Rita's character was one of the most annoying female stereotypes I have ever had the displeasure of watching and I'm glad we won't have to deal with her anymore. I think this was a smart move! It will improve the quality of the show and ultimately make it more enjoyable.

Just finish the season finale (literally). Like others I don't get Showtime so I had to watch it on the net. I would have watched it sooner but I just started the series about 2 weeks ago and have watched all four seasons within that time. Unfortunately someone commented on a message board about the ending so I already knew :( Sigh it's a catch 22, you either start a series when it airs and hope it isn't canceled mid story (like Tru Calling) or you wait, but are more likely to hear spoliers.

Thae explanation is simple. He was waiting for Dexter, not Rita. He killed her in a way he would easily recognize when he came home, and he did. He did not have the time to be as neat as he normally is. Trinity did it, everyone needs to accept this and move on.

I still don't think Rita dying was a total surprise. With all the hype about the "shocking ending" you had to know a main character would die, and the only people who would live up to "shocking" would be Deb or Rita.

Once Rita said she'd be there while he fought his demons, I knew she was a goner.

What was surprising was Harrison in a pool of blood on the floor, having witnessed his mothers murder just like Dexter. That was the shocker for me.

I dont think it was a dream ... I think that Deb will move in to try and help take care of the kids. Dexter will be emotionally messed up more than usual because he was finally realizing how much he loved his family and that his "dark passenger" was beginning to take a back seat. now he will be pissed off and hell bent on vengeance and i think that will cause him to slip up a little bit and get cops on his tail... but he will frame someone and get off as usual.. just my guess but who knows

Ever since Rita came into the picture, I hated how controlling and annoying she was! By the middle of the finale, I got to thinking, "She's kind of sweet... I guess she's not that bad," and then BAM! I couldn't believe it! My jaw dropped and I was just totally stunned. This show has the best cliffhangers I've ever seen!

I was blown away by this episode! Never expected Rita's death, not to mention Dexter's baby in a puddle of blood. This episode sets up something up for next season to where we won't know what the hell is gonna happen? I can't wait to see what the wonderful script writers will think of now.

This episode was simply unbelievable. The amount of twists and turns in this season were unreal, it was as good as season 2!

John Lithigow and Debra took the show on this season with both stunning performances. John will surely get an emmy.

The first half of this season had me worrying slightly but once the episode where lundy was killed the season took off and there was twists, turns and alot of drama everywhere.

This simply is the best show on TV.

@clownnamedmalesto It's a tough one to call, but i'm gonna have to say yes. Simply because Doakes was so badass haha, one my favourite TV characters. In season1 it was just about dexter catching the ice truck killer, but in s2 there was alot more risk involved as he was close to getting caught by the feds.

I just hope season 6 is as good as season 4! i didnt like season 5 that much :(

Also, the way Harrison was positioned in the blood on the bathroom floor sort of echoes how toddler Dexter(and his brother) were found in the buckets of blood in the shipping container. Was it just coincidence that Trinity placed him there/Harrison crawled over there ? Or did Trinity spend some in Deb's (Dexter's former) apartment, rifling through her Laura Moser files and newspaper clippings about her murder ? If so, he would know the conditions Dexter was found in and his it was intentional.

Arthur said to his family someone took something from me. He was trying to track Dexter's house down.

He said to Dexter on the table "It's already over." This could mean "I've already won"

Then there's the interview with Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow. They confirmed it.
