Amazing how they packed glassware in dishwashing soap to sell their product. I remember my Mom got some of this back in the day and brought the box home only to find the glass inside was broken. When she went back to the store to return it they gave her a hard time, saying "How do we know YOU didn't break the glass yourself?" She never bought Duz again and switched to Cascade.
Lever Brothers' arrangment with Cannon went farther back than the "Breeze" premiums; in late 1952, "a genuine Cannon face cloth" was offered in large-size boxes of Lever's "Silver Dust" {"wonder bubble suds for both laundry and dishes"}. That brand was fading, and, as Breeze eventually did, "Silver Dust" vanished by the end of the '50s...
There was another detergent back then - I don't remember its name - that came with an entire towel in the box as a way to get you buy. Even then that struck me as odd.
That detergent was Breeze by Lever Brothers (now Unilever). They had a partnership with Cannon Mills to offer free dish towels, hand towels, or washcloths in every box. My aunt LOVED to see what new item she'd find in her next box! My Mom didn't buy Breeze - she preferred Tide for her laundry.
I remember many freebies in the Duz box, one time my mom bought a box that had a full set of dining room chairs in it, my dad had to help her carry the box in.
Duz was originally a laundry soap sold from 1929 to 1975; a detergent version was sold from 1956 to 1978; at various times they gave away "Golden Wheat" dinnerware (1959-66); glassware (1967-72); and finally, silverware (1973-1978). There was another P & G brand, Bonus, which gave away towels from 1966 to 1976, and children's books in 1977-1978; both were dropped due to low sales after 1978.
Gotta love the nightmare inducing wallpaper! Not sure how long Duz lasted, but its ads always seemed to have the bonus glass, so I *think* they always included one. Anyone else know?
She's an over protective dish washer.

I have a whole box full of these glasses still in their little box. Grandma must have done a lot of laundry.

@biggurl1965 My grandmother collected Breeze towels. They weren't thick enough to dry a teardrop.

The so-called Swedish modern glasses were actually made by Libbey in the US.

I am surprised the glasses didn't break. Also, how much powder was saved by the huge glass box displacing it?

In't that Anita Gillette?

No, Anita Gillette would've been about ten years older than this, I think...

My grandmother used to buy Duz. Not only did they give you free glassware, but things like dishtowels & washcloths too.

I really like this Duz commercial with the Swedish smoke colored glasses inside. After all, Duz was made by Procter & Gamble.
