Kylie's line about Franklin ("Who died and made him Adam Steiner") sounds like foreshadowing when we later learn he's also a member of a royal family.
I have some questions. How come the Clans people in the animated series here have these image enhancer tattoos on their faces? The Clans characters I've seen in the stories like Marthe Pryde, Ulric Kerensky, Joanna, Natasha Kerensky and many others don't have the tattoos. How come only Nicolai and clans people here in the cartoon have the tattoos?
@KSXA2 Its a genetic surgery people go through to enhance their brains (though its fairly rare unlike what is shown in the series). It basiclly makes them ridiculously smart and have amazing reaction but after only a few years it starts to fry their brain and eventually turn them into vegetables.
@kingc0m Actually, no. All they do is allow a pilot to interface directly with their 'Mech without the need for a neurohelmet. Apart from that, what you said about it frying their brains and turning them into vegetables that much faster is true.
Jordan Weisman, one of the creators of Battletech, was one of the show's producers and FASA did all the computer animation or Enhanced Imaging footage. According to the show's sourcebook, the writers had to quite severely simplify the backstory to keep new viewers from getting confused.
i wish i knew how franklin figured out the password for the computer in this episode, honestly i was expecting something like what the other 3 said, not rosebud o.0
I'm glad they show another clan joining in, though the Elemental Trial of Possession was not the most graceful trial I've ever seen.
Can anyone tell me who really becomes victorious out of JF/Wolf rivalry and which clans besides these two (and I think Ghost Bear was one) were in the first wave of the invasion?
Khan Pryde broke the Wolves in half, where the "warden" side fled in the IS and those still loyal as "Crusaders" were assimilated into Clan Jade Falcon as the Jade Wolves, because being released from their bonds and allowed to (re)-create the Clan Wolf.
Besides Clans Jade Falcon, Wolf and Ghost Bear, others in the invasion included Clans Smoke Jaguar and Nova Cat that I can remember right now.
@gribae Also remember the Steel Vipers shared the Jade Falcons invasion corridors. And Khan Pryde had nothing to do with the Jade Wolves. That was ended when Vladimir Ward challenged her predecessors to a Trial of Refusal. Actually I think it was Vandervahn Chistu in this series, that Vlad defeated to halt the absorption of the Wolves. Also it was Khan Phelan Ward that split the Wolves, not Pryde who'd yet to take power as a Khan at the time.
Wow, what a great idea! Threaten to court-martial all the people who volunteered to come along on your crusade to win back your homeworld, even if the reason they went awol was to gather information which is part of your mission. Not to mention they brought back your bloody mech. Hell, if I'd been them, I'd been like, "Fine, be an asshole. I'll just activate it's self destruct and we can be on our way.
I just love how half of the clan-elemental on clan-elemental fighting came in the form of an unsophisticated beat-down. ;)
Wait, don't the clans have strict rules against any form of melee attack? Or does that only apply to mechs, and not battlesuits? Or only to certain clans?
It's never really discussed much, but suspect that because 1 Elemental represents a Point of a Star (ie 5 Elementals forms 1 full 'Mech Star), Elementals are not subject to some of the normal engagements rules that 'Mech pilots are, because even on a good day, it takes at least 2 Elementals to bring down a fully locked and loaded 'Mech.
If it were Elemental against Elemental, it could be a different set of rules entirely.
Aaah... man, the clans are complex. Unnecessarily so, if you ask me. You! Get my mech's Hatchet sharpened. And YOU, on my mark fire your flamers at me. I need to reach 9 heat so that TSM can kick in. I've got a Dire Wolf that needs chopped in half. }:D
In some areas they are, but other ways, their system is simple to understand. It also helps to have had the benefit of 18 years to understand everything like I have.
Sorry, I got that half wrong (not that it matters much now, but I like perfection) but 1 'Mech is a Point (in a 'Mech Star) and 5 Elementals make up a Point in a 'Mech Star, so 25 Elementals is 1 full 'Mech Star (5 points on a star with 5 Elementals in a Point - 5x5=25 = total 1 Elemental Star)
Alexander merely took the majority of the SL army out of the IS to save them from the wars the 5 Houses fought over the next3 centuries.
Moving them to the Pentagon Worlds, they flourihed for a short time before warring among themselves, then, with Nikolas, took the Exodus Road that took them to the current-place Clan Homeworlds.
Nikolas Kerensky formed the Clans, but the Clans honour them both for their existence in their individual parts that brought about the creation of the Clans.
This error gets addressed in the 1st somerset strikers sourcebook. It claims that the "clans" on camelot may not be THE clans, but a means of organising the SLDF 12th(The "army" on Camelot while the rest of the SLDF assembled in New Samarkand) It is speculated in the report in the book that Nicolas used the same term his father did when he reorganised the SLDF
Woah, Clan Wolf is in this episode?? Most of the battletech episodes usually pitted Clan Jade Falcon as the antagonists. But...I couldnt tell whose who in the whole mechwarrior universe, I dunno who is the good guys or the bad guys here.
However if I had to join a clan, I'd vote for Steel Vipers!
Clan Sea Fox totemic animal was slayed by geneticaly enchanced sharks designed by Clan Snow Raven. And Foxes didnt allied themselves with the Inner Sphere they still folow the code of the clans and are living beatwin them as warrior-merchants. The clans that merged with IS are Clan Ghost Bear and traitourus Spirit Cats now known as Nova Cats.
Hardly. It is not that he does not use lazy contractions, he simply does not write them correctly. To further reinforce the point, Nova Cats is the original name of that clan, after the great refusal they took on the name Spirit Cats, originally the name of a minor breakaway faction they had re-absorbed.
Stravags. Let them scribble away their heritige under whatever nomen they choose. They cannot erase the stain of their abjuration and no amount of wordplay shields them. At least we Jade Falcons remain strong where the cats have failed...
They tried to do as we of the Ghost Bear did only to be consumed by their own weakneses. I that we remeber the Nova cat name with honor they brought us ERlasers and their marksmen were always unmatched. The Spirit cats will however serve as little better then target practice for the newest sibkin.
Diamond Shark is better though. If you have mechcommander 2, try this tactic: Pick any mech. Fill with machine guns. Attack another enemy meck from behind. That's the tactic for the DS mech Pihrana. It can take out just about anything.
Yes. One of the other clans (probably Fire Mandrill) released a natural predator that hunted their totem animal almost to extinction. They changed their name to that of the predator. They later changed back to Sea Fox and realligned themselves with the Inner Sphere..
The machine guns will either constantly knock the mech over, or chew right through the armour. Usually both. If you want a rough idea about the mech, go to brickcommander dotcom click on the mechs, it's in the light mech part of the clans.
Cool I'll check that out. Hey if you play Mechwarrior: Age of Destruction (The Miniature Game) you should check out this site called "Hill's Wholesale Gaming" they sale booster packs and starters for pennies.
It's a hell of a condensed version, but the novels rule too. I would like to see a more modern version of this cartoon to be made, there would be so many angles to view from and time periods to go through.
Agreed. Though after watching the intro for MechWarrior 4: Vengeance, I think a few live action series would be appropriate. Sort of like in Star Trek. The first series released could be during the Clan invasion, then others could explore different key periods. The creation of FTL travel, the rise and fall of the Star League, the Succession Wars, etc.
The Battletech Universe must have been viewed as to confusing by the writers and producers for young children, so they decided to change a number of details. That would explain all the inaccuracies and mistakes.
It was not General Kerensky but his son, Nicholas, that formed the clans. And they were formed outside of the Inner Sphere. Whatever, I'll take what I can get.
I'm fairly certain General Alexander Kerensky was bald (in fact he started losing his hair fairly early). Some of the recent stories on Battlecorps support this fact.

So did they even look at the source/books and novels when they wrote this? No wonder this show ended after 13 episodes.

@77shadowknight
The original book series are not longer in print, but you can buy them on ebay.
The only other way you can get the series (BattleTech) is if you buy the re-printed "Classic BattleTech" books.
Thankfully I own he entire seris of first prints, so I need not bother wasting money on the "classic" crap.
