  • Thx for the video. My friend told me about the jumping cactus but I didn't believe him. The sad thing is that I have lived in the Mojave Desert for 25 years and I just now found this out. Thx again.

  • Jumping CHOLLA (choy-ah)

I had one of those in the crook of my knee while I was hiking once, didn't know it untill I took a step UP

  • I had one of these for a while. It grew until a frost killed it. Vicious little thing...

  • I was hoping you'd take the machete...

  • @sweettooth80 Hurts like hell lol

  • porno

  • /shit-in-pants

  • Why would pople plant these in their yard? I was in Arizona 11 years ago, got stuck by one, and never went back.

  • @Goldenrod636 Helps keep people away from your house

  • @iseehaters LOL

  • Scaryyyyy stuff

  • If you stepped on one you'd jump...

  • is it a way for them to spread their seed so a new cactus can grow elsewhere? I know some plants have seeds that stick on the fur of dogs for example which later drops off and then a new plant can grow. I don't know much on how cactus's grow they werent discussed in our biology books.

  • @Twilightmia yeah one of those little balls of thorn could become its own cactus. If you were in desperate need of water you can also burn off the spikes and eat the inside

  • @cooltokes ew

  • I like the video

My teacher was talking about a certain cactus called Chollo or something? Cholla? Chika? Shit?

But she said that the reason these cactus jump at you maybe because of static charge. Kinda like a balloon when it sticks on to you.

In your case it seems scarier, you barley touched the needle and went deep into your finger! scarrryyy

  • @dhalpuri yes you just need to touch them lightly and they embed in to you

  • @iseehaters

I was up on a mountain top and one of these stuck into the inside of my left leg--how'd I know it was there? Pain. After I took it out (excruciatingly painful) I looked for the plant it had come from; none around--in all likely-hood the wind was the culprit. After about 3-4 steps of getting it out, I felt needles on the inside of my right leg. I thought it was remnants of the old one rubbing against my leg--it was a new one.

6hrs later, my right leg is still in pain.

    :.(

  • There's one important fact about the Jumping Cholla that u didn't mention..beside it's "Jumping:" thorns

It's a delicious cactus - all u have t do is to burn the thorns (they burn fast & easily

and than pill that bumpy external cover. You will find inside a light green softskin(use only fresh growth @ the end of the branches) It has a delicate taste that remind me of a combination between a tomato & cucamber

They don't write anything about it in the books...but i dont need their approvement.

  • I literally was just attacked by one of those. It stuck to my ankle and yes im in arizona. The cactus is like a sticky grenade, it kinda hurts, but not really. i've felt worse lol.

  • and then someone comes in and just SLAMS your hand down...that would suck.

  • one of those jumping cactus stuck to my kneecap.my skin stretched out like 2 inches before it popped off.

  • So what they jjust jump on you?! Just like that??

Im from az but yeah still xD

  • @KittyPinkx3 Yes more like then stick to u like they did jump on u

  • FORGET THUMB TACS IMA STICK THIS ON MY CHEM TEACHER'S CHAIR :D

  • dah, i remember one of my friends ran into one by accident and kicked a piece of a jumping cactus right into my arm. interesting day that came out to be.

  • you sound like some old fat dick, oh wait, you are.

  • You sound like Hank Hill :)

  • Thanks for the video i appreciated it

  • god thanks for warning me my friend said something about a jumping cactus and i didnt know what he meant so i look it up and now i know not to touch one.

  • Okay, why didn't he stop the camera and get one that was alive rather than tell us that this one was dead and not as good as the live ones? And why is it called jumping cactus when it's more of a "sticking" cactus as he continues to tell us? Note: CACTUS DOES NOT JUMP.

  • They're in the Cholla cactus family, I actually think these are Can Cholla or maybe Golden Cholla, i'm not sure, and they stick to you because of barbs on the needles, it doesn't matter if they're dead or alive. The barbs don't wilt or die or any of that nonsense. And it would take a very large amount of the toxin to make us sick unless allergic. So, either you're having a very bad day and somehow ended up covered from head to toe, you're allergic or you're not sick.

  • CRACKWOOD the movie !!!!! llamas , clowns all in the old west ...no jumping cactus!!!

  • lol from far away i thought it was something u stuck with toothpicks

  • ITS RAYMOND!!

  • i once encountered a freaking island of them in Arizona, it jabbed my thumb...they sense vibration and jump towards the source

  • I like how it doesn't jump.

  • Chollas are awful!

  • My grandpa got one of these stuck on his hand and he needed surgery to get all the quills out :(

  • Anybody ever tell you that you sound a bit like Ben Stein?

    Bueller... Bueller........ Bueller?

  • thanks dude that was educational and entertaining.

  • my 2nd grade teacher spent her vacations in AZ and got attacked by some cactus during a hiking trip.

  • Cactus is a part of life in the desert, they are everywere, most every ysrd and property has them, if live i az then u know about cactus and have enough common sense to not hug one, lol , a kid will soon learn not to mess with a cactus, thats what psrents are for, cactus are used to deture. Crime, its part of the desert life, if u dont like cactus dont come to az plain and simple

  • @How2Q Yeah, and those pet scorpions are kept contained. They're not running around the house and I'm going to guess they won't be found on any "common house pets lists" any time soon.

Also, we are talking about a particular type of cactus here. I see many variety of cacti in stores. However they are not the variety that is talked about in this video. The question was directed at this particular type (Cylindropuntia fulgida). Not cacti in general.

  • 2:38 and stick to your BALLS MUAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • @How2Q Go to hell punk. You would think that something that causes so much pain to people would be the last thing you would want in your yard.

Go have a look at the other videos where they are using pliers to remove them from their arms and legs. Now imagine your toddler getting a few of them on him or her and the pain that would come from having to yank them out.

Have a look at this and tell me how a kid 2 -13 would react:

    /watch?v=1PBIVA1Ls-w

    Moron

  • @andreo hey im 13 and im insulted lolz jkjk

  • ...and you have these planted in your yard? Why?

  • @andreo

Maybe cause not much else grows where you hardly get any rain and it gets up to 120 in the summer?

    Plus cacti are cool anyway.

  • @mjazzguitar Read the thread between myself and How2Q. The question isn't directed at cacti in general, only this specific cactus.

  • @andreo

    I see

  • reminds me of that scene in saw 2

  • No he kinda sound like that one guy from family guy. I forget he's name

  • @funny29041 isnt it tom tucker? maybe....

  • So this is what Raymond has been doing since his show went off the air. "EVERYBODY LOVES CACTUS"

  • @garlandbob

I was gunna say the same thing, he sounds like raymond.

  • it could jump if its windy outside and it blows it on you

  • @EpicGifted true

  • THANKS!! I should have watched this last week!! ER visit for stepping on one of these bastards. OUCH. I just moved here two months ago:(

  • nice machete

  • i dont get it.

  • NO VE QUE COÑAZO DE TIO, te lo digo pa q mentiendas:

    YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORED

  • on the very end of it are super tiny needles. its somewhat like an arrow the needles and the very tip are pointing downward so its hard to get out of your skin. ive had these stuck in me plenty of times. they hurt like a bitch to pull out. haha

  • why the hell would i pay 20 dollars for this? how much have you made so far? $0

  • the cactus has the larva in it that is in jumping beans

  • @danielmax02 no it dont...not this one..

  • um, that isn't DEAD.

    they are barbed.

BTW they Don't stick to you if you are careful!

    Duh.

  • How many times does he say "stick" or "stuck"??

  • Unfortunately u cant be ubered wile wakling through the desert/

  • @frenchtoaster1000 Maybe if you attempted to get a medic?

  • dude totally gonna be the next bear grills with this kinda of video, like how the hell does it jump up and get you.... you were bored weren't you lol

  • @dukas420 your right im about 8 mins from i 10

  • LOL "dont run into any jumping cactus" LOL made me laugh nice vid kinda cool how that worked!

  • Its Cylindropuntia fulgida, the jumping cholla.

  • @weiliiiiiii i know but most people dont know what that means lol

  • Looks like its from the genus Cylindropuntia.

  • I have like four of them in my front yard....I live in Buckeye

  • yeah does tht hurt?

  • DOES IT HURT? WHEN ITS ON YOUR FINGER?

  • Nasty Bastards.

  • lmao just like burdocks but wayyy pointer and toxic lmao

  • That is crazy, I had no idea!

  • At last, a living fence the neighborhood dogs won't dare to cross twice to leave their "gifts" in my yard! Thanks! :)

j/k, I don't think the cacti will survive here. Plus it's the neighbors letting the dogs run loose that are the problem TBH. :-/

    Thanks for the vid.

  • i can tell you one thing

IT IS NOT PRETTY WHEN ONE GETS STUCK!!

  • There barbed and try to pull you inside out.

I had to use needle nose pliers to pull them out and boy dose it hurt!

  • I live in Tucson, tons of jumping cactus in the desert, most people do not have them for landscaping plants due to the fact they drop pieces and soon become invasive...my pitbulls would hunt packrats and rabbits and come home covered in these cactus. Hemostats work well to pull off the large pieces and tweezers for the smaller needles...if out hiking, use sticks to dislodge the clumps of cactus from the body. The spines really hurt when you pull them out!!

  • They don't jump, they only stick to you.

  • your jumping cacti are broken, I once threw rocks by some and the little parts impaled the rocks in mid air, getting jammed so tight in you couldn't get them out

  • wow interesting (kofkof)

  • They don't jump! It wasn't dead. If you stuck it in the dirt even a small bit, it would root and grow.

  • I got one in me before and it hurt soooooo bad i was scrwaming and crying when i was in tuscon

  • OMG I WANT ONE! :D

  • That one wasn't dead, it was just sleeping.

  • Very cool video sir. Thanks!

  • Do u live in Windsor Ontario? Cause I Swear Ive Seen That House Near My Uncles House.

  • @pejnismiggle nope tucson az

  • i live in tucson AZ too

  • @pejnismiggle I KNEW IT I KNEW IT!!! that look so much like tucson az! i been there to see a friend, the second i saw this video i knew it was tucson, tucson especialy. its a nice place, i was there mainly to visit tomb stone. i live in so. cal... you know a guy named dave? with a red truck?

  • @jorkey0roblox LOLwut? who's dave? and what red truck? =S

  • @pejnismiggle bro.... how could you even assume it could possibly be in canada. the cacti are a pretty good clue.

  • @lulzwhot

We have cactus in Canada (mainly in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta). We also have cactus in Ontario and British Columbia. Ontario in particular has the eastern prickly pear cactus, which is endangered. I live in Ontario and we had a prickly pear cactus in the garden but animals ate it during its second year.

  • @BlueBerryWizard yeah prickly pear is good to eat.. well i dont but i know some mexicans who do, plus they make all kinds of stuff out of it

  • @iseehaters

Once a year prickly pears come into season and they sell them at the St. Jacobs Farmers Market & we buy some. They're really good, tasty, juicy fruits. My parents are reluctant to get them because of the prickles getting into their fingers when they skin them though. The guy who sells them looks Mexican btw :o

  • @lulzwhot hey man, it looks identical to a house near my uncles. i swear, its EXACTLY the same.

  • haha! your voice sounds so cool!!! you sound like a police officer! :D

  • @anoletrouble thanks

  • according to my mum when i was 3 i fell into one of those... im so glad i cant remember that =D

  • Being an Arizona native and cross country runner let me say that these things really suck to run by during a windy day.

  • they suck to walk by as well lol...

  • lol what would be bad if somebody jumped into a whole field of them xD

  • o yes you would be in for a world of hurt

  • Something about cactuses and stupid people(like the wild boyz) makes me laugh :/

  • i accidently got into one of those it reeeeally sucks

  • i grabed a handfull once talk about pain

  • omg! :P thats very irritating i think. how did u get it off?

  • you really need plyiers to get them off

  • dude that was soooooo coool

  • thanks

  • its called a jumpin choia those are mean little fuckers they cause instant brusing wear the spikes hit lol.

  • im in canada and we have things like those except they are burs and they are smaller and are also so hard to get out

  • ME 2! I HATE THEM THINGS!
