  • This music is epic as shit.

  • I smell gas and oh yeah dont light a cigarette OH NO YOU DUMB IDIOT! (next day on nbc) After the government tested a braun entervan a stupid idiot had to have a cigarette and burned the whole facility down killing all inside

  • who is braun?

  • well that van used to be safe...thanks braun.

  • All wheelchair accessable minivans aren´t this bad. The Honda and Chrysler/Dodge with wheelchair conversion from VMI can withstand a rear impact of 50 mph/81 kpm without any fuel leakage.

  • MADE IN USA!

  • you guys are not understanding... this van was modified for wheelchair access, and it meets federal motor vehicle safety standards.

  • The context is very simple. The Dodge minivan pictured with the Braun Entervan wheelchair accessible conversion installed did NOT pass the NHTSA fuel integrity test. This is factual and documented by the NHTSA. They are the national standard and they did the blind testing. It seems pretty cut and dried to me. From personal experience, Braun seems reluctant to release their crash test info. Why?

  • Call and ask them.

That was in 2002 and from Braun, it doesn't mean they are all that way.= nor that this is what made it to market.

Gee Captain Obvious you can watch a video an see the end result, stop with conspiracy theories.

  • where do you find the rear end footage??

  • That is irresponsible and quite frankly one of the most unethical thing I have ever heard of. Allowing someone to see this out of context is nothing short of a lie.

  • Don't be mislead by the test results- they are from 2002 .

Fear mongering jerks just love to pass along idiotic microcosms of information and appear smarter than YOU.

The Dodge product is a very well tested and constantly updated platform...Braun (just one company that converts vehicles) yeah they are assholes for sure. Don't make the mistake of painting the entire line or the mobility dealers who are there looking out for your interests, in the same stroke.

  • well this tells u just dont buy american minivans lol...go for the HONDA,toyota or nissan ones

  • you're an idiot. this van is safe, it was moddified by a company for wheel chair's and lifts. they lower the floorboard and jack up the rear. this company just did a horrible job making the van unsafe. honda toyo and nissan would be no different from the same company.

  • woah the gas tank leaked

  • Braun entercrap blows!!!

  • Glad I saw this. I was looking at a Toyota Sienna.

  • do not buy dodge, or anything mopar. Buy a toyota.

  • The pan cameras frames are cool!

  • lite a match i want to see the ugly thing burn!!!!

  • At that speed I'm glad to see the van hold up that well! The after market gas tank and wheelchair lift system wasn't so hot though.

  • IM DRIVING A BOMB!!!

  • Too bad the gas tank has to be placed behind the rear axle in a wheelchair converted minivan.

I drive a 2000 Ford Windstar with VMI conversion. The Windstar is regarded as a very safe minivan. But I really do hope I don´t get hit from behind!

  • WELL, that doesn't change the fact that everyone driving a 2001 is in danger of a deadly gas leak in a crash.

  • well have you ever thought about how many people are driving 1997-2005 Ventures, Montanas, and Shiloettes? and 1985-2005 Astros and Safaris?

you should feel sorry for them.

  • a frontal crash is different than a rear crash, dumbo! Also, in a 2001 caravan there's a gas leak! People would live in the astros and safari's, but ventures would have it bad...

  • Yeah you'd be hurting in the astros and safaris (1996-2005 models) but you'd be dead in the ventures.

  • calling me a hypocrite just proves your ignorance.

  • Lifting the suspension wouldn't make the frame weaker! Still using excuses, (and poor grammar) to get your fallacious point across. chryslermnivans1111, you need to go back to3rd grade to learn how to use capitilization and how to spell. "Acceptiable" HA! It's spelt "Acceptable." Since you're mentally challenged I better not argue with you.

  • lifting the the suspension causes weakspots to be exposed. god damn you are stupid.

  • Maybe if Chrysler didn't make weakspots they would fare better!

  • wow.

    you are a hypocrite.

let's compare a Chrysler minivan agains a gm minivan.

    which is safer?

    CHRYSLER.

    haha.

and if there was a test of the venture braun entervan, it would fail... WORSE than the Chrysler.

    sorry.

    you are nothing but a

    HYPOCRITE!!

  • I wouldn't be called the "entervan!" Braun is the company and "entervan" is the model! It would have a different model name! Damn, you're stupid

  • braun entervan is the conversion company.

there were venture and windstar conversions too.

  • crappy Chrysler minivans? yea right! the only weakness that the Chrysler vans have is the old 4spd auto, and that is soon to be gone. it was the conversion company's fault. the van was raised to far in the read. the Chrysler minivans, in all 5 generations are WAY safer than any GM sad excuse for a minivan.

  • Comment removed

  • IT IS THE CONVERSION COMPANY's fault! they are responsiable for the safty of the MODIFIED vehicle!!! Chrysler didnt intend on their minivan on being modified!!!! so you know what GMminivan?... you lose. i am right, the Chrysler vans have ALWAYS been safe, lets hear you say that about gm vans. oh wait you cant! the 90-96, 97-04 SUCKED!

  • Comment removed

  • That looks horrible! someones children would be killed horribly . If they surrived the initial crash they would be burned to death in the end.

  • your right about GMminivan he is a dumb asshole chrysler minivans are very safe. oh by the way GMminivan acutally drives a geo metro to let evreyone know its really true. he argues and is in denial over evreything.

  • Shmenge Polka by Raffi

  • Thanks

  • @syncrobismol2 the shmenge brothers from sctv got a polka named after them?

  • "it wasn't yet the standard! Vehicles need only meet standards that are applicable, not standards that are anticipated"

No. Sure. The Ford Pinto also meeted all the standards back in the 1970s. It must be a great relief to be ROASTED TO DEATH IN A CAR THAT MEETS "CURRENT STANDARDS".

  • I don't get it - this a test, right? So all vehicles that don't pass on the first run are unsafe? Gimme a break - there wouldn't be any cars on the road. If you're so serious in your concern about this situation, why did you add the polka music to the video?

  • david, it's not just this video, it's that there's more to it. It seems that Braun has a series of serious safety issues with there vehicles that people who purchase them might never know about. If things hadn't appeared to be so evasive, I never would have looked into it. Where there's smoke, there's fire apparently.

  • "Serious safety issues" that apparently lend themselves well to polka music. Frankly, I question your motives - if you're serious about this, YouTube or a blog is not the right venue to affect change. It seems to me you're just trying to "get" the company. Why not get in touch with NHTSA and advise them on how to do the job you apparently think they're not capable of doing?

  • The polka music's annoying but moves things along a bit. I did contact the NHTSA at the onset but sadly, there's no real recourse. I was told, suprisingly, that manufacturers can "self certify" themselves and aren't required to turn in their testing data. I think that's scary. I'm not out to "get" Braun, they just happen to be the co. that I took a look at and found there to be issues.

  • wheelerdude1, First, I'm not a "competitor" of Braun. Second, you're wrong about the time frame on the 50 mph standard, but regardless, WHO CARES WHEN THE STANDARD IS "SET TO TAKE EFFECT"? A VAN WITH A RUPTURED GAS TANK IS NO FUN IF YOU'RE STUCK IN THE BACK OF IT IN A WHEELCHAIR!!! Besides, based on watchdog's work, it looks like there's more to this than just the stuff I found out. I'm flattered this video was a catalyst for it. That's how change happens my friends....

  • As a result of this video and some postings re: it, I started investigating van companies starting with Braun (I've got time on my hands!). I found some concerning stuff. View it at wheelchairwatchdog. blogspot. com (take out the spaces if you paste it)

Braun recently had to recall 4000 converted Toyota Siennas! Whatever syncrobismols motives there's real issues at hand. Besides, the fact remains, this vans tank ruptured after being hit. That's not good. Any response from syncrobismol?!?!?

  • watchdog, It took me a minute to figure out how to get to your blog (i.e. "take out the spaces...") but once I did, I was impressed. I had no idea posting this video would open the door. I'm posting a link to your blog in the "about this video" section of this video to make it easier to get to. I think people should see it.

  • In true Mythbusters form, this video is Busted! It's true the vehicle failed a proposed standard set to take effect in 2009. But that's the whole point - it wasn't yet the standard! Vehicles need only meet standards that are applicable, not standards that are anticipated. It appears the submitter is intentionally attempting to mislead the public, probably a competitor trying to use scare tactics. Read the report synchrobismol links to in the description and see for yourself!

  • wheelerdude, I'm curious. I ended up doing the research after I experienced it first hand and wondered what the deal was....but you claim to know an awful lot about the NHTSA "standards" for wheelchair vans. As an ironic twist to you accusing me of being a competitor of Braun, I'm guessing you work for them or are affiliated somehow?

Just a thought. Read the blog watchdog started. It took me a minute to figure out what "take out spaces" meant but I got there.

  • (lights match)

  • *thats a safe car" lol

  • fucked

  • 70 percent offset? What would happen if that was 40 percent offset??

  • Braun won't even honor IMS parts which they bought out!

  • Wow thats really scary - especially for the person who is wheelchair bound.
