i think this song represents the "face" of relationships. this song represents the "picture" that couples have to give off proving that there is no troubles or issues between the pair. the correlation is between the canvas (a picture is on a canvas) and the fact that she has "trouble finding the strength to keep you taut, to hold you up" as in to keep holding up this image of a relationship, of perfection.

I think that the music video is a metaphor; we can't see the man's face, or emotions. I think that ties with Imogen's other songs about her love life, how she meets a man, but he never listens to her or does things with her. Canvas is saying that he doesn't even know her emotions; how she feels about him. And in the lyrics, she's saying that she can't find the strngth to keep the relationship together.
