"We noticed in the swim, ryosuke's head is so still, is that something he trains on a lot?"
"I want to break the world record, and also this is an Australian meet, so, uh, I wanted to swim for Japan team, and also, uh, all the teammates cheering out for him, so that, that was great race."
woah irie is totally ahmazing. he did an awesome job! lol the suit doesnt matter enymore because he said hes gonna set another new 200 back stroke record at rome enyways. he is just. so beautiful. hes prolly the only person who swims THAT perfect, look at the other dudes, water splashing everywhere lol
Great swim by Irie. In the 100m backstroke, Irie had one outside lane clean and swam a very good time. This time, in the 200m backstroke, Irie did not have a clean outside lane and swam under 1:53.00. Great swim, left me in awe!
lol I agree, he also translated "do u think u can go even quicker than that u took one second of the world record?" as "One second faster than the world record, how do you feel it bout it?"
think australian accent is difficult to understand for Japanese people who learns english with american accent, nd guess he was kinda nervous=( not blamin him but better to improve english for himself=)
yes the suit can make a whole second of difference. Irie is a phenomenal backstroker but now Aaron Peirsol is still the best backstroker eventhough Rome is gonna be intense.
There's no way the arena suit alone could make that much of a difference. Besides, Lochte was wearing a LZR when he broke the record which is right on the level with the arena.
No, the Arena is more effective than the LZR. In fact in Rome, whoever wears LZR would be at a big disadvantage to those using Arena or Jaked. But he did beat Lochte at Rome.
Wait is it only me or is everyone except Stockel that kicks just 15m? Because if you look at the replay in slow motion you see that everyone kicks over 15m. Or is the red mark not 15m?
He still swam a 1:54.09 in the 200 back in an LZR a month later, so it's not just the suit, kids. You say what you want about him, he's the future of backstroke. His technique is impeccable. Go watch the video of Wildeboer and then watch this. There's no splash in Irie's stroke because he's so damn efficient. That's how he can still swim within .15 of Lochte's record which he did in an LZR
the future of backstroke?? you do know that aaron peirsol just went 51.9 in the 100 back don't you? when the americans hit their taper.....its fuckin go time.
i swam for noth baltimore. i swim for club wolverine now. no i didn't qualify for the olympics, i finaled at olympics trials in the 200im and the 200fly though. 5th in the 2fly 7th i think in the im.
200back finals tonight at american world championship trials! i'm bettting americans get under this world record tonight and a third american comes close.
Beautiful swim, poetry in motion... Too bad it wasn't approved because of the suit (Arena X-Glide, FINA said it had to be modified to be approved). Hoping Irie will break it again in Rome :)
it took 8 pounds to sink that suit to the bottom of the pool as opposed to the lzr which only took 3lbs. it gives him way better buoyancy which allows him to have a way better stroke. i'm excited to see what happens in this event in rome with michael in the mix.
All you retards who said the suit took the most part should go kill yourself now. First, he's only 19, which means his height, weight, size, and muscle hasn't fully developed yet and he set the world record. Wait 'til he's 22 and see what happens. Second, the SUIT isn't banned in Asian games, so he wasn't cheating.
@markk124 I don't understand why FINA didn't approve it either. This isn't even a full body suit. FINA approve full body suit record but not this. Do you not see what they are trying to do??
The swim is obviously great. He has amazing technique. However i was talking to some coaches that have done work out at the olympic training center. This suit is the new arena suit I believe. Its not been admitted yet (and it probably won't be). The coaches I have spoken to feel that at this level this suit can make upwards of 2-3 seconds a 100 difference. If anyone has heard anything on the suit would love to hear it.
OK, you go and put on that suit and set the world record for us. You said the technique only did 0.6 seconds, so the rest depended on the suit, so you try it.
well what i did was exaggerate the finish of my stroke, as you can see his pull is very strong underwater and he is also getting alot of surface area out of the way he bends his arms, but he has a very wide kick which takes alot of work and alot of ankle flexibility
eh, it was my first time swimming it since last year, but i didnt expect to drop 5, LC 1:15 to 1:09, but i assume i did alright because i beat our backstroker
Ryosuke Irie is the second best backstroker in history behind Aaron Peirsol...my opinion..

he should adapt his technique for the sprints, a big rotation may be more efiicent but in the sprints it's all about arm speed with a shallow pull
