I was a substance abuse counselor for 10 yrs. I worked in various milieu's from detox, to treatment after detox, to private hospitals, to expensive treatment ctrs in wealthy neighborhoods. Piece of advice. The best way to deal with heroin or opiates is to never start. If you happen to start it's best to stop within 2 yrs. After about 2 yrs it is a problem to get the brain back to square one. I could go into the neurotransmitters and the pleasure centers blah, blah, but I won't. Don't start

A family member of mine is an addict and it's very painful and hard to deal with them. Not to mention it's sometimes impossible to cut them off. He gets very desperate when he can't get his fix. We tried to take him to rehab 6 times but he always fails. It's hard to not support them, even without giving them money, it's just painful to watch them.

I was able to stop using illegally daily by utilizing a suboxone subscription, but I am still very much addicted to opiates. I am not saying that one shot, or one night of use of any type will instantaneously addict you. I am saying that if you are not careful, opiates are very likeable. And you will notice how much you like them, the first time you use them. After that, its up to you.

I've heard many people say that the sensation of their first hit was so amazing to them that all they cared about was getting that amazing feeling again. She's more likely to quit at home around people who can help her, rather than around other junkies on the street, who will encourage her habit and put her in dangerous situations. Don't know about smoking heroin, but if ur injecting it, a lot of heroin users I know inject one "point" (one-tenth of a gram) of heroin when they wake up, & another one later in the day. One point costs $20. Some claim they do up to 8 points a day, & I saw a girl inject 3 points all at once, but she did it into her buttock, not into a vein (she couldn't find a good one). Later she said it was a good thing she had to inject into her butt cheek, otherwise she prob would've OD'd.
I don't do heroin, but know a lot of users, & spent a lot of time with them when they're buying, injecting, high after, nodding off, going crazy trying to get another hit, being dope sick, etc. Some act crazy on heroin, some seem "normal", others pass out repeatedly. It's a STUPID thing to try even once, since we all know what it does to you. In the video, whoever tricked that girl into smoking heroin, wasn't much of a "friend'! Pretty immature, dumb, & selfish of them.

A family member of mine is an addict and it's very painful and hard to deal with them. Not to mention it's sometimes impossible to cut them off. He gets very desperate when he can't get his fix. We tried to take him to rehab 6 times but he always fails. It's hard to not support them, even without giving them money, it's just painful to watch them.

I was able to stop using illegally daily by utilizing a suboxone subscription, but I am still very much addicted to opiates. I am not saying that one shot, or one night of use of any type will instantaneously addict you. I am saying that if you are not careful, opiates are very likeable. And you will notice how much you like them, the first time you use them. After that, its up to you.

I had no plan to ever use them daily, but, over the course of three years, things happen that change your initial plans. If you enjoyed it, and you believe you won't become obsessed, you'll probably want to try it again. The problem with heroin is, it costs money, and snowboarding doesn't give you a "hangover" or withdrawal. @vuikenshtein Smack was the one drug I never tried but my mate was bang on it (chasing the dragon not injecting) and from what he told me, you end up in a situation where you're not really getting high any more but rather, you are having to take it in order to function. He literally couldn't get out of bed and was in all kinds of pain without it. The only drug I actually enjoy long term of weed/hash but even that has a long term effect.

I've heard many people say that the sensation of their first hit was so amazing to them that all they cared about was getting that amazing feeling again. It doesn't mean they are physically addicted in the sense that they'd get withdrawals, but they were "hooked" on the feeling. This seems especially common in people suffering from mental disorders like depression (they found something that gives them relief from their anguish).

What they should do is demand that she gets treatment or move out. there's the risk that she moves out but that means that she has to find some other way to finance her drugs, for example prostitution, and some where else to live. Don't know about smoking heroin, but if ur injecting it, a lot of heroin users I know inject one "point" (one-tenth of a gram) of heroin when they wake up, & another one later in the day. One point costs $20. Some claim they do up to 8 points a day, & I saw a girl inject 3 points all at once, but she did it into her buttock, not into a vein (she couldn't find a good one). Later she said it was a good thing she had to inject into her butt cheek, otherwise she prob would've OD'd.

Although addictive, pure pharmaceutical diamorphine has the same safety profile as morphine, it is only more potent. It is not toxic to the organs, kidneys, or liver, the only definite long term effect of the drug other than tolerance is recurrent constipation.
