Just the name, Pufnstuf says it all and the time period in which these shows were broadcast is another reason to believe that drugs were part of the influence or underlying theme to a lot of the material. I will bet anyone on the planet that Peter Jackson (producer and director of "Lord of the Rings" fame) was an avid watcher. I can see the similarities of LOTR with this classic children's show. Jack Wild reminds me of Elijah Wood ("Frodo"), the talking trees and Witchy Poo (also similar to "Wizard of Oz" material), and the fairy tale themes. It may look hokey by today's standards but I'd bet money that Hollywood is planning a motion picture version of H.R. Pufnstuf.
