  • Congratulations! What a wonderful wedding! God bless you both

  • In my hometown (Vancouver), a theatre has staged for over 10 years now a show called "Tony and Tina's Wedding." It's as if you're attending a classic Italian wedding, North-American style -- the music's loud, the food's overflowing, the guests number in the hundreds -- BUT WHAT A PARTY!!!

Not my kind of wedding (I am Italian -- by the by -- but to each his/her own!

    Ciao

  • I'm Russian and was married in a traditional Russian wedding (and reception) but my husband is not Russian so we decided to cut out some of the "weirdness" so as not to scare him and his family! LOL! This is great! Thanks for the memories!

  • @lixie1 Glad you liked it!

  • I was expecting him to have to eat the apple after that..

  • @DeoMachina That's a different tradition. You pull the toothpicks out with your teeth, then eat the apple, but you are blindfolded and they are used toothpicks, and you're not allowed to use your hands. I think that is more a Ukrainian one than a Belarusian one, and sort of confined to prisons.

  • Dave, any chance you could add annotations to describe all the strange ceremonies as they happen, for us clueless Americans?

  • @Amiduffer I think that's a good idea, but I'll have to do it in a piecemeal fashion!

  • @Amiduffer Should I do them a little bit tongue in cheek, straightlaced commentary or a blend of the two?

  • @usenetposts I've done the first ones, as a kind of mix of real commentary and good natured humour. Say if you want this style for the rest of the annotations or a different style, also whether more or less frequent.

  • @usenetposts Thanks. Some of them are really strange like the plucking of the toothpicks, making the knot with the towel, etc. It sure isn't like here where the groom just has to show up, in effect.

  • Горько!

  • This is a big wedding! There seem to be at least three ceremonies. First the groom and his men must go through an ordeal at the home of his bride I guess to prove his suitability and/or love. Then they all to to the civil ceremony. Then on to the Church wedding. That's as far as I got this viewing... Nice.

  • @kenbank There's still the recption to go, and that also has various divisions, with various toasts and games, culminating in the farewell to virginity at the end. In the west the main thing we have left of that part is the casting of the bouquet, but in Slavic lands there are special dances and songs all about it. In Slovakia the traditional folklore around weddings is so rich that there are even fake weddings done by professional performers at which the traditions are showcased for tourists.

  • YouTube changed the rules some time ago and now it's not so easy to get an account that allows posting such long videos. Those of us who were lucky enough to get the old Director's account are grandfathered in. You gotta love grandfather clauses!

  • @kenbank My grandfather's clause was too tall for the shelf so it stood ninety years on the floor.

  • Do you not suppose you could break such a large video like this into smaller parts or chapters? :s

  • @theaaroneason On the contrary, I'm tempted to, as it would make my hits go right up. But on the other hand I like the fact that channels are all different, and one of the things that makes this channel different is the fact that I have the ability to load really long pieces, and so if someone wants to see a big thing like some of the Soviet movies or radio shows I have up without finding the next one every ten minutes, then this is good. However - not so good if you're on YT TV or mobile!
