I've read that not everybody has good experiences using this machine. Does everybode produce prototype and small series in aluminium with Datron? What are your experiences?
We are looking for a compact milling machine(3-5 axis) for around 70'000 Euro who is solid and doesn't have any "theeting troubles"...
does anyone have ballpark pricing on Datron machines? I inquired and the dealer sent a rather short almost rude response, but would not even give me a starting number on pricing. Are they $50k, 100k, $2.5 million??? I'm discouraged from working with this company already, but if they are in my price range ($100k), I may consider ordering from a different dealer outside of the US. Any thoughts?
@harrelsontrumpets may be you ask the dealer in the UK , coz i ask them before. They just want me to ask shanghai dealer because I am now move to China area.
@WilliamTang there are 3 axis ones for 7500 dollars and the advertising is on youtube many times..this one im pretty sure is over 30 grand.... youll see it if you keep watchin videos like this.. and they are perfect for puting it in your garage and doing small works..... ;) hope this helps...
There is chatter marks but that could be avoided with a finish pass. But man, this video and machine is incredible, I'd love to have one of these one day. I can only hope.
60,000 rpm! shit that is incredible, but i suppose for the type of machining these are designed for youd need that sort of rpm to achieve the nessecary surface speed on your tools. Very nice indeed.
I understand these are around £50,000 in the UK, anyone in the UK with a good knowledge of this type and size machine, i would love to hear from you, we want to buy a machine but really have no idea what is the best one in this range.
no one asked, but my 2 cent opinion ... this is just better looking router with a 60 k rpm spindle... ! too flimsy to take the day to day beating of production work.
@rocketmagnet ...Not impressed. We can do the same thing on a real CNC. If we want to go really fast in Aluminum and run 200 ipm we just throw in a speeder head. You really are not going that fast.
@kuei12 Why does that define "real" CNC? It sounds more like "your favourite CNC". I have personally seen this machine running, and compared to other machines we looked at it was very impressive.
@kuei12 So? It's a bit like saying a clock on a church tower is better than a wrist watch because you can see it from really far away.
The usefulness of a machine has nothing to do with your particular favourite control setup, or whether someone else you've never met prefers to use different sized tools.
What's important is that you can reliably go from your CAD part to a quality finished machined part for a good time and price. For different people, different machines will satisfy this.
@kuei1248 And actually cutting aluminium with a dull butter knife is a bad idea. To get a really nice and accurate finish requires a sharp tool with a proper non-stick coating to prevent build up.

@chaghar i did make one by myself. It does make me spend around at your prices, but the fact is i need the machine like that. Thank your comment.

If you look closely you will see terrible chatter marks on almost all surfaces. I quess that is the reason why audio track is replaced with music.
This mill is not rigid enough to take cuts like shown in this video.

Fast huh? That's aluminum. You can cut that with a dull butter knife. Let's see it take a 2" insert mill and plow through some D2.
kuei1248 2 years ago
@kuei1248 It's not meant to work with a 2" tool. This is micro milling. Perfect for what we do, where the largest tool we use is 4mm (0.16").

@kuei12 What's the make and model number of this "real" CNC machine?

@rocketmagnet ...Anything with a fanuc control setup with a high speed processor

@kuei12 For us, this machine is nearly perfect. Of all the machines we've checked out, this one comes closest to our ideal.
