  • Is this made in Japan or in Korea. I have seen some on ebay that say they are Korean and others Japanese. Is there a noticeable difference in quality? This guitar sounds like it might be just the thing I am looking for.

  • @thorpypoo The guitar is made in Korea and I was unaware of any made Japan...ever???? Just recorded with it today and the tone was excellent and the neck flawless.

    Cheers

  • The guitar looks good. Id probly get this rather than the strat.

  • @santanaincubus you know both are great guitars but this has allot going for it. The tones are between a Strat, Tele, and Ric. The neck on this guitar is flawless, low action, no buzzes and does not fret out above the 12th fret. The guitar will also not weigh you down physically, it is much lighter than a Strat.

  • Yes they are, I have not changed out pickups on any of my Dano's.

    Cheers

  • Are those the original lipstick pickups?

  • I'm not putting them down or anything but did the original 50s 60s models have the plastic cap over the body?

  • @beatlesman369

Hi there, Not sure what you mean by the plastic cap over the body? I can tell you that the DC3 is not an original Danelectro design. This guitar model was built as a one of the resurrection guitars. But like the originals which I did own at one time, they are made of masonite. Masonite is the claim to fame. Masonite turned out to be very resonant and a cheap alternative to wood. One great side note is the guitar is unbelievably light in weight compared to my G&L back breakers

  • you sound like Lincoln Brewster!

  • sounds soo good but looks soo bad

  • @atravesdelrio thats great...the guitar does sound great but the look is not for everyone...I appreciate your insight!

  • @clamgrower1 They look cool man. Don't listen to him.

  • I found one of these at my local music store with a grey sparkle finish and a tie-dye neck. Funky!

  • is it possible to switch the lipstick pickups to normal pickup?

  • @OakPark11MileRd

I have to agree with that.

I kinda like the art deco type look to a Danelectro, but all the youtube vids I've heard of them sound thin and tinny.

I made myself a toilet seat guitar recently, using an old Fender Strat neck and a Wilkinson gold lipstick pup and I think it sounds much better than a Danelectro. The strat neck makes it of course, with a super low action.

I've done 3 vids of it on youtube, I'm no Jimi Hendrix but see what you think?

  • @OakPark11MileRd

That's a very good hypothesis !! makes perfect sense to me.

If ever I stumble across such a study of this, I will post it on this page.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • @OakPark11MileRd

Cheers, I just did that and I see what their getting at.

Except that the "Jangle" isn't a specific action or function, but just how a Rickenbacker sounds or rather how someone in the past described the destinctive Rickenbacker sound.

So instead of being asked "does it jangle", they should have just asked..does it sound like a Rickenbacker.

    Interesting !! Thanks

  • Great demo, very helpful. I think I'm going to have to get one of these! I can't find the three pickup ones anywhere though. Think I might just get a normal 2 pup '59 :)

  • @M4000D They are...thanks for the post

  • where can i find one?!

  • Sounds like a cool guitar you built, I love the PU choice as well. When I refer to jangle I am talking about bright tones with a sort of metallic and bell like ring to them. The sound is not harsh to the ear but is more a full sound and not thin like say a single coil PU in the bridge position.

    Thanks for the post.

    Cheers

  • Excellent Demo.

    Very sweet sounding guitar.

I just built a toilet seat guitar with a nice old fender strat neck my mate got me for £2 at the bootfair, and I fitted it with a Wilkinson Gold Lipstick pick-up.

Sounds really nice and beautiful to play. I have a question though.

You use the term to "Jangle", I was asked if my Italia Rimini "jangled" and I couldn't answer the question. Of course I had a smart arse who answered it but didn't say. Could you explain to me exactly what is please?

    Cheers

  • IS THIS GUITAR LIGHT WEIGHT ?

  • @SuperDsffdsf It's lighter than any other guitar I own. I think the bass player for NOFX switched to Danelectro basses when he got back problems.

  • @drresnerd Another plus to Dan-Electros, now if my amps just got lighter.

  • @SuperDsffdsf Yes it is and very comfortable to wear at a gig

  • Thanks for posting and for feedback

  • Thanks for the demonstration. I think this one is going to be my next project! Nice playing, btw...

  • i love the quirky designs of these guitars. nice playing bro.

  • @xPsuedo Yes very well said, they are quirky. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Cheers

  • Great, but you should have at least shown a little of the blow switch.

  • @MrAlbinoPanther

Thats a very good comment and thanks for pointing that out. Honestly, I am not impressed with the blow switch and did show that feature very much and play it on even less . I find the blow switch to be muddy and just a volume boost with allot of mid. I can't remember if I show it in more detail in my Mod 6 review. Anyway good point and thanks for posting.

    Cheers

  • @monorailsandwich Wow, two comments in one night. Thanks again for the entertainment. Keep practicing and one day your playing will be as creative as your comments. :) Be sure to share your vid's so I have something to aspire to.

    Cheers

  • i wonder what part of this clip provoced such negative coments.

GREAT guitar, great price, great genuwine sound.

with this guitar u can play from led zepelin to prince

btw jimy hendrix first guitar was Danelectro DC59

  • @redrot1 Thanks, I couldn't agree with you more. Well said.

    Cheers

  • Sounds pretty good, but looks like crap

  • sounds like shit

  • @mrzomgzzro Thanks for posting. Nice to hear from someone who can relate their comments to themselves...your very introspective. I applaud you!

  • @clamgrower1 its true though, i see you want that bright single coil sound, you might as well just get an american strat or tele they are 10x better than any dan electro.

  • @mrzomgzzro Good comments, however, I do own a USA late 80's Tele, sold a strat and currently own 3 other USA G & L guitars. All are great players but... this guitar and my mod 6 Danos have very fast necks, zero buzzes, stay in tune, perfect intonation and none have had to have any neck adjustments. The masonite body resonates the bell tones like wood can't. They are light in weight and great for a long night on stage. They are a great guitar value for people who might not be aware of them.

  • Is this or the 63 better for slide/blues type stuff? need to know

  • @technolust14

I think you should look at the Dano Pro....that would be my choice. But the 63 would be my next.

    Cheers

  • great review of the guitar.. used at......guitars electric... put the dot.. then org

  • stop doing that finger thing. it's like you're trying t o flick a booger!

  • @marazm1

How do you know I'm not.....thanks for watching.

    Cheers

  • what amp do you use?

  • @fraidwoodcesco It is a Fender Hot Rod deluxe with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. It has been retubed with Svetlana Winged C power tubes. Hope that helps.

    Cheers

  • I wish all demos were as helpful as this one. I was playing a used one at Guitar Center and it really impressed me with how fast the neck was and how playable it was. The tone was also great, even though I'm more of a humbucker guy.

  • @PhasersOnFunky

Thanks for the comments, the necks are fast and playable. Humbuckers are great as well.

    Cheers

  • oh! oh! play cliffs of dover! :D

  • Why are they so cheap?

  • of my 12 guitars 6 are danos. my single cut tuxedo black U3 is amazing.

  • @clamgrower1 sounds great man thanks for the info!

  • From wat ive seen these guitars have an awesome clean sound but im curious would they be any good with a more hard rock-metal sound(e.g.nirvana chevelle stone sour ect.)?

  • @Notso94I think they are great when compared to any single coil guitar...will it rock under distortion like Kurt used on his Fenders....? You bet ! The sound is awesome. It will not sound like a humbucker guitar however...just a great single coil sound.

    Cheers

  • Amazing tones! but which amplifiers end distortion pedals do you use? expecially when you play whit that fuzzy distortion..

Does the 59 sound even good as the dc3?

  • @MatEffect

Thanks. The amp is a fender hot rod deluxe with a vintage celestian speaker and I have changed the stock tubes out to Svetlana winged C tubes. The pedal is a Fulltone OCD. The 59 has very similar tone compared to the dc-3 but does not have the blow switch to engage all pickups which is really no big deal I never use the blow switch and don't miss it.

    Cheers

  • Is the sound basically the same as the Mod 6 just without the double lipstick bridge pickups and coil split?

  • @NYCadet273 Yup you got it. I have to say however the Mod is slightly heavier and has a nicer neck.

    Keep rocking those WHO tunes.

    Cheers

  • what amp are you usinng?

  • Which danelectro guitar do you prefer, this or the pro? why?

    Thanks,

    Alex

  • i dnt know y but i've always been very sceptical about these guitars.

  • @hondansx1000 i dnt know y either, but I don't make them or sell them, i just play them.

    Cheers

  • i played a 59 danelectro, i debated selling my 1000 dollar gretsch!

  • @jakegambino its a great guitar, I would still hang onto the Gretch...they are sweet

  • tone is gorgeous. never played one but im very interested now, its got the jangly sound but it sounds like it does warm stuff as well. great playing btw

  • @Sleepwalker516

The tone really is great, its got jangle but you can certainly dial that warm tone in as well. Im playing straight into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and only use a Fulltone OCD pedal at the end.

Thanks for posting, thanks for the comments and I hope you find one.

    Cheers

  • holy tele tone out of the bridge

im not fond of there clean bridge sound

but i do love danos... best guitar in their price range

  • @FOT368 Your dead on with the Tele comment. I have a Tele as well and the Dano is very close. This guitar is more versatile. Thanks for posting...sound like you have a great ear for tone.

    Cheers

  • @theboywhocantolli

Keep playing guitar hero and learning your chops, your intelligence far surpasses anything you can think of.

    Thanks for posting

    Cheers

  • I want this guitar, too.

it's difficult for me to buy DC3 in japan...

  • @sobbatgirl

    Keep looking, try Ebay.

    best of luck,

    Cheers

  • is that a danelectro behind him too?

  • @rainermmaria Yeah thats my Dano Pro.

  • is it hard to reach the top frets on that guitar?

  • No not at all just remember its shorter scale.

    cheers

  • The DC-3 has 3 pickups verses 2 pickups, the Dc3 has blow switch, the DC3 has a selectomatic switch to get multiple pickup combinations. Hope that helps.

  • which is difference with danelectro 95 dc??

  • thank god these are so easy to manu or these could easily be swapping hands on ebay for £180+ instead of £130, take the control cover off the back and youll die because of what it looks like inside and the materials used (a £40 behringer strat 10xs worse) but the build quality is really good for the price theyre so good pro players use them anyone who's on here and doesnt have a dano already buy one, youre cort or pacifica is average compared to this,

  • Like you said the tone is there. I have now owned and played this guitar for two years and no issues with neck, pots etc...still plays and sounds great

  • callate y toca al maldita guitarra!

  • Thanks for the advice amigo.

  • is this the same as a dano 59?

  • The DC 59 has the same cutaway but has 2 pickups and no blow switch ( no great loss without the blow switch)

    Cheers

  • I just got this one and I hate the blow switch. Worthless.

  • Yup I agree, I never use it.

  • Well i checked the pickup height thats the first thing i did. The bbridge pickup on mine seems to fall off a little bit and is real trebley, Not really loud i am thinkinga cold soldier joint?

  • what kind of amp u useing? and i just got the same guitar the bridge pickup sounds weak, does yours too?

  • Hi Rarebikes,

The amp is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I have changed the tubes out to Svetlana Winged C's. The speaker is a Celestion Vintage 30. My bridge pickup is right there compared to the other pickups it has more volume, which is should. Have you checked your pickup height and adjusted it? That could really be an issue if the height is low. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and let us know.

    Cheers.

  • Sweet! I understand why you keep coming back to it.

  • Thanks,

Yeah I do love it and its even lighter in weight than my Mod Six.

    Cheers.

  • Thanks very much for posting your wonderful demos! Please upload more! You got the Mojo man! Cheers from Argentina!

  • Thank you.

    cheers.

  • with a marshall, that would probably sound like malcolm young's gretsch

  • Your spot on, the guitar can definitely handle it.

    Good call and good ear.

    cheers

  • isnt this guy with a guitar pro demo thing on youtube now>?

  • Yup.

    Cheers

  • whats the neck like?

    thanx

    a.

  • The neck is fast fast fast. Its a shallow C and much more gibson like than the fenders and G & L 's I play. IT has a 14 inch fret radius but is slick and very slim.

  • I had a Dano U2 and remember the neck being kinda chunky. Guess it's not the same neck.

  • cool!..but what's the guitar on the background?

  • It's a Dano Pro... I have a review of it on my page.

    Cheers

  • oh yes it's in the related videos...btw your danos are very cool both in sound and look..and you do a great job with reviews...thanx man!keep rockin

    ;)

  • Thanks, and thanks for checking out the vids.

  • I have one in a sparkle greenish blue finish. Don't know the exact name of the color. Got it in about 2001 for about $185 with case via Ebay from a guy from Pennsylvania. I have flatwound stings on it and sounds great but I want to put round wounds back on it.

  • Nice, I love that finish. I bet its a looker.

  • great review, I want one

  • you will love it.

  • danelectro stoped making the dc3, correct? So i will have to go with used right.

  • Yes, but they do show up fairly regularly at online auction sites and craigslist....

  • Do you know its neck dimensions?

Width at the nut/ scale lenght/ fingerboard radius.

    Good guitar.

    Thanks.

  • 14 inch fret radius ( yes 14 not 12) and nut is 1&5/8 by 3/8. It has 22 frets.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

  • Okay. But it doesn't have 22 frets, but 21.

    Thanks.

  • yeah, I'm still working on that counting stuff.

  • I have a Danelectro '63 reissue... Really, really like, just like some other Danelectros I have played. Find it very interesting, how the Danelectro single lipsticks are so buzzless, even compared to some standart fenders...

Nice video, will be considering purchuasing one of those, sometime soon...

  • I agree, I hear much less 60 cycle hum than with my G & L's and tele. I love the neck on this guitar as well.

    Cheers

  • what amp are u using?

  • It's a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. Tubes were replaced with Svetlana winged C's.

    Hope that helps.

  • These seem to be the most underrated guitars ever! Loveit

  • I couldn't agree with you more, I play it allot.

  • J'adore cette gratte ! Elle est magique.

  • Thanks!

  • well im sold. thanks. Im gonna get one. great playing aswell!

  • Right On!

  • The bridge p/u sounds almost like a Ric! Lead sound has a good "bite". This is a very impressive, and versatile instrument. Thanks for the upload!

  • I hear that from allot of musicians when they hear this guitar. It is very versatile and I'm glad you liked the upload. I made the clip just to turn people on to some of the guitars that may slip unknown past all the boutique guitar out there.

    Thanks for comments.

  • I really like the sound quality of the Danos, and this DC3 sounds the best of all. For the price, how could anyone go wrong? I intend to search out a DC3. Great sound! Thanks again.

  • tbh i hate pretty much every danelectro,

i feel they are badly made and i don't care much for the tone.

however, this one sounds a lot better than any of the ones i've played.

still not keen on them or the look.

    i'm a strat guy myself.

    great playing though

  • Yeah they may not be for everyone and I agree they dont all sound the same. This guitar has unbelievable low action with no buzzes and great tone. I gig this guitar and play all the time on it and it still blows me away. I often reach for it before my tele, G&L's or Reverend.

    Thanks for commenting

  • wow this guitar is awesome! Do you know where i can get one for 300-400 dollars

    or possibly 500?

  • Check Ebay.... I have seen a few recently for as little as $350.00.

    Cheers

  • the overdrive sounds where awesome

  • Thanks,

I may post some more soon live with the band

  • Wich model is the yellow one on the background? I've wanted one of those ever since I saw beck playing one live

  • It is the Dano Pro in the peach color

  • he didn't play that... he played a very similar danelectro silvertone. PS: i saw beck play a few days ago at the bowl, it was AWESOME.

  • Awesome vid! I got a Silvertone 1457 and it's probably the greatest sounding guitar i've ever played. Danelectro's rule!

  • Thanks. I bet that Silvertone rocks!!

  • Heh! Too cool. Sir, do you play in a band and in what area?

  • Thanks....Yes I do play in a band.......I'm out in the pacific northwest. These Dano's rock.

    Cheers

  • You're almost certainly the greatest ambassador that Danelectro has on YouTube - really great variety of tones!

  • Thanks, They really have a niche sound and I think that allot of good players snub them because they have never given them a go.

  • Awesome!!! Definitely more jangly than a Strat. Love ur playing too especially at 5:40, when I could have sworn it was a Van Halen-style playing, it was like the video was fast-fowarded! Hahaha :)

I agree with martincq, u have to get a DC-12. Jangly, classic 12 string n very Ricky sounding. I used to have one and regretted selling it, should have kept it.

I think I`m gonna start browsng thru Ebay for the DC-3.

  • Thanks for the reply, Eddie VH I'm not !! But I really love the DC-3 and thats why I posted. Regarding the DC12... I found one about a month ago but the neck was bowed beyond belief, I don't even think a truss rod adjustment would have fixed it !! Your recommendation and martincq will keep me looking.

    Cheers

  • Sounds Great:

I'll agree with you on the "Blow" switch I'm not fond of the guitar version, But on my Hodad Bass the "Blow" switch is excellent.

You HAVE to get a DC 12, Those are Awesome

  • DC12 I will start looking!!

  • Thanks, it really is a versatile guitar

  • Nice!!! Lots a nice tones-Featured more of you playing this time!!! Sounds Great!!!!
