ADV did a gatchaman dub in 2006, so all of you who want to see the series can. i highly recommend it. You can tell the V.A.s had fun with it while not going over board.
Seriously though, I recorded this song onto a cassette tape just so I could listen to it in the car... Someone has to know the name? We already know the band is "Rice and Beans"
Um o.k. I am 40 years old and used to watch G-Force here in Texas when I was a pre teen. I am gathering that GatchaMan was a completely different show wherever it originated from. I am shocked to see the original version and how freakin cool it is. I feel like G-Force that I grew up with was a bunch of pansies. Wow, how the American public played down this awesome graphic cartoon. I am hooked again at 40 watching the real deal.
@michael1970sherman Same story here, grew up in Texas watching this as "Battle of the planets" discovering now at 40 that the original Japanese cartoon was totally different. Discovering the same thing with "Star Blazers" which was called "Space Battleship Yamato" over there.
Whenever I hear the music from this trailer I can't help my head moving from side with the beat while kepping my shoulders still. I always have this look on my face while I'm doing it too. XD wah-wah pedal FTW.
this was my favorite show in the late 1970's. Of course it was Battle of the Planets back then. I hated it when they brought it back in the 80's and changed the names...
I was a huge fan of Urban Vision, and watched this trailer years ago. Of course my parents, who grew up with this stuff, bashed this. As someone earlier posted, loved it then, love it now. =D
I remember seeing this promo on the 'Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust' DVD. The music is awesome and the animation has some nice detail but I'm a sucker for the original from Tatsunoko.

There are many versions of Gatchaman.
1) the original Japanese 1970's version.
2) Battle of the Planets Americanized 1970's version of above by Sandy Frank Productions.
3) there is another American 1970's version whose man I can't remember.
4) G-Force another Americanized version made by Ted Turner in the 1980's.
5) 1990's Japanese remake version and that's what this clip is from.
6) New CGI animated version in development.

What does the gatcha in Gatchaman mean in english?
geardog24 2 years ago 2
Nothing. "gacchan" is an onomatopoeia in Japanese. It's the sound of heavy crashing, like mecha engaging in battle.
If you wanted to give it some sort of English meaning, it's similar to "Crash!" or "Bang!"

This is the cartoon they stole the Idea of silverhawks from.
marioTmaggot 2 years ago
This was a 1970's TV show of the same name that they rebooted.
In the US it was called Battle of the Planets.
madgoose66 2 years ago
at least get your timelines right. silverhawks was before this, and gatchaman was years before silverhawks.
this looks a LOT like the artist from kite, if im not mistaken.

You know, not that it's the most important thing, but it's "Gatchaman" with an A and all one word. Just an FYI for ya.
