  • Hot pants and boots , o how I loved TOTP , back then Happy days

  • LOL the girl at 0.40 looks like a Punk 5 years too early?

  • girls were pretty then, they just don't care enough to have the same sensible values anymore ..and yes I was in one of those audiences at TOTP. life was exciting

    ......

  • we were very sensible then....

  • girls girls girls...mmm

    wait, I'm lesbian???

  • hot girls, wow the 70s in color, best ever seen

  • It's a close call but the girl at 1:11 gets my vote. See her again at 2:17 - Oh! You Pretty Thing. A close 2nd for me is the girl at 1:39. And I'm really starting to get into the track as well!

  • @paulytwotanks I agree, my favourite too, though her dress is based on corn plasters... maybe a message to the song performer!

  • Fashion has not changed for the girls ,just look around town on a saturday night .

  • Jonathan King!!! lol

  • That nerdy lady is my Uncle Harold,he used to like dressing up.I think they are letting him out next week.

  • this is bloody Jonathan King

  • TOTP was a really entertaining show back in 1971 by the look of it (i was only 6 so this would have been on in the background but I obviously wasnt watching it that far back) - the audience look like proper young people (almost ravin' some of them) not the uncool lot who became the TOTP audience in the late 70s and afterwards - but by then the whole programme was badly designed and dodgy as hell.

  • IT WAS GREAT BEING ABLE TO RELIVE THYE MUSIC OF 1971 (SEEING THE COUNTDOWN TO THE TOP 30 (AS IT WAS AT THAT TIME) THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THAT AND THE ONES OF TODAY. IS THAT I KNEW EVERY SINGLE SONG(PROBABLY HAD ABOUT 50%OF THOSE RECORDS) NOWADAYS I HAVNT A CLUE ABOUT THE SONGS THAT ARE IN THE TOP 30 (WHEN I READ THE NEW ONE)

  • the nigger 1.43 is funny

  • these were already danceing like there parents,

  • I love the count down they are doing dubbed over the top...Look at the names. Wow! What a line-up!

  • @1:38 That girl... I love...

  • That man at 2:45 OMG get him help someone PLEASE!!!!

  • i love the cute girl at 1.11 :) wonder what she's doing these days? love her smile!

  • absolutely! bring back the very best tv musical show of the world.

  • bring back TOTP, there is something about it.

  • If their only grandchildren could could see how they danced.......but now they CAN!!

  • The character in the white cardigan at 2:44 has forgotten his medication. There's something unnatural about those movements.

  • this is so much more cool (they llook like groovy peole out a 60s swingin London film)lthan the TOTP later became even a year later - I was 7 in 1972 and sort of remember it from late72 onwards and it was nowhere near as cool as this, those dancers are actually getting into it not like the bored shuffle they soon did. they

wouldnt have looked out of place 17 years later raving. Love the sexy birds in the hotpants and boots - pity theyre in their late 50s now but im mid40s so i cant really talk!

  • THE CHICK ON THE RIGHT AT 2:00 IS DANCING TO A DIFFERENT TUNE

  • 2 escaped lunatics at 3.28

  • The woman at 2:18 appeared in more than one edition of Top of the Pops during this period, i wonder if they got the local talent in from the nightclubs?

  • But she is absolutely stunning so it doesn't matter how many times we see her. She is such a honey. Bet her grandkids are gorgeous too!

  • the guy in the orange shirt at 02.56?

  • 1m42s - the happiest guy you ever saw on YouTube

  • The babes look hot, the blokes look like frig'n dorks dancin''round like drongos...

  • I'm sorry but, what exactly were they counting down? (I'm a little slow)

  • @slojoe58 The top 30...the highlight of the week. Back in teh day it was the most exciting moment when TOTP did the countdown...where were Sweet, Slade, T Rex...all our heroes...it meant everything to an 8 year old at prep school

  • HOT PANTS BOOTS and Tights , no wonder I loved watching Top of the Pops when I was a Boy WOOWWWWEEEE!!!!

  • magic that was the70s folowing the humungus60s iwas there wow music was so good and the girls mmmm

  • I have such wonderful memories (and pics to prove it) of these happy, innocent and carefree days of the 1970's. Still have some of my original clothes from this era as well :-).

  • See that bloke in the white shirt doing some kind of hippie morris dancing at 02.44? That's your dad, that is....

  • Deep Purple and Cliff Richard, Delfonics, PERRY COMO, JUDY COLLINS, Paul McCartney, John Lennon all on the same chart at the same time??? This was a special time in music!

  • Cooler than the Archies version by far...nearly heavy metal!

  • What can I say. its so groovy, cool, a real classic?

  • These women mean business!

  • It's good that these clips survive, they are a good piece of history. I was 3 years old when this TOTP went out and I don't remember it, although I vaguely remember some of the songs. Keep these vids coming guys, cos they are precious!

  • I bet being spotted dancing in the audience for TOTP would mean you were centre of attention all week at school lol!!

  • Those were the days before mass immigration.

  • Tony Blackburn was really corny in a harmless sort of way.

  • Saw a couple of tits @ 2:48 & 2:58 one in purple & one in orange...LOL

  • that lady in the blue flowered dress pmpl

  • Aren't they just such groovy guys and chicks ! Tank tops, mini skirts, flower this and that and even the odd cravat. Look at the list of artists in the charts and it was real quality.

  • ooooooh!!! toneeeeeeeee!! tell you what,id shag the bird with the scragg '71 t shirt, total ride, yeah baby,no,she has pals, and doesnt have time for a full grown relationship, how sad eh,i loved her,now im hurting, funny old game eh....xx

  • Poor things. So depressed and uncoordinated. Are they on barbituates? But then, Sugar Sugar is enough to narcotize anyone. And to think these were some of the BETTER Brit dancers.... The Dance Police should have put these kids out of their misery. For a devastating comparison, look at videos of exuberant Soul Train kids from the same era.....

  • @mobydoug asshole. I dig those hot white 70s chicks.

  • This dance was really white.

  • oh why did punk come along my mate said to me because of crap like this what a heep of shit

  • lol the girls looked so much better then???

  • Them w'the days! Pre-Saturday Night Fever, when nobody had any 'Moves' and Dad Dancing was the norm. Travolta and Jacko raised the bar now mere mortals such as I throw drunken shapes at our peril,in fear of what twats we look!

  • Wow this is strange. I was watching Alice Cooper and came here by accident. Cool though.

  • I remember thinking how modern this sounds!

  • I wish they would bring back Top of the pops.

The British music scene as gone down the toilet ever since they ended TOTP

  • VERY GLAM..B4 GLAM GOT BIG

  • good stuff!

  • hard to believe those hip swaying 'dollybirds' are all collecting their pensions now........or even worse having their nappies changed........wheres the time go eh????

  • LOL true enough

  • @davidleigh65 ... aint that the truth!!

  • I love it...though the audience weren't very glam back then Lol

  • Life is eternal thanks to these dancing girls!

  • @kourilo1 ........ Yeah, but the girl to her left is HOT at 1.11, the cameraman thinks so as well he pans in at 2.17. Wonder who she is and if she's still hot now ......... : ))

  • @audimanpov Couldn't agree more - she is absolutely lovely - if she, or any of her friends, is watching - please let us know.....!

  • @audimanpov Ooooo Yes please, I'll have a bit of that thankyou....Just think, All these girls are Grandmas now.....oh well.

  • Holy Crap !!! Freeze the vid at 1.41, never mind the Charlie Chaplin time traveler, look at the background screen it's .................. it's ........... ' Shay Carl' and he don't look any different !!

  • Pity hes a convicted paedophile. Mind you, Elvis and Bill Wyman got away with it, so what the hey.

  • Not a shade on the far superior original.

  • The nerdy lady in the blue flowered dress at 1:13 is classic!

  • @VlogasaurusFlex ... lol that's funny!

  • @VlogasaurusFlex

    Bless her - she's trying

  • @VlogasaurusFlex They must be all 60 or 70 years of age now!! Wish I had their names and addresses and copywright ro this tape-the money they'd pay me to destroy it!! Mind you, have a look, you can spot the future blackmail corner fashions kids wear today. I think the 'beanie' hat photo's will be a nice blackmail earner in a few years time!

  • @VlogasaurusFlex rofl!!!!! oh...thats funny!!!! she reminds me of mary katherine gallagher from saturday night live!!!! rofl....

  • @VlogasaurusFlex OMG! I'm howling....the nerdy lady in the flower dress is hilarious!

  • Nerdy lady????? She is (was) way to cute to be nerdy!

The dancing may have been dated but she was in sync and easy on the eye...but oh god, the guys!! But hey, look on the dance floor today and most guys are just as shite!

A shame Jonathan King is a pervert though...he was a talented music producer...but you just gotta love the 70's ;->

  • Looks like Ann from Little Britain. Eh Eh EeeeeeeeeeeHHHHHHH!!!

  • @VlogasaurusFlex Yea its really funny! She is trying to get ideas on how to dance from the girl in front and looks completely confused!

  • It'll be the "third" time in December we'll see Jonathan King, this time his alias is 100 Ton and a Feather and i hope nyrainbow4 will upload the 15.07.76 episode on that week.

Then its shortly followed as himself doing a La Bionda cover "One for You, One for Me" in 1978 and thats it.

  • totp, best of times, music fashion, people.places, peak living and loving, jimmy saville tony blackburn pans people, what an amazing time

  • Jonathan King again....one of his many aliases....

  • Does anyone out there have this mp3?

  • rip it from youtube!

  • the audience in '71 was so very cool!... why did they look much more authentic, than in our current days?

  • super psicodelico, gracias!!

  • IF this had been filmed now, 50% (Half) of the women would have arses as wide as a bus.

  • Very Scooby doo the man with the neck scarf...very groovy..

Top of the pops should of focussed more on the audience dancing...as well as the pop acts
