The cage is there for "health and safety reasons"!

LittleFishy105, dunno if u worked it out already but there are two holes on top of the cage on either side. If u look inside u can see the two screws, u just need a phillips head screwdriver.

For the audiofiles, guys, seriously, if u are trying to work with maximum output super duper old school-coz-things-were-better-­in-those-days sound then why are u fucking round with iPods anyway. Im a guitarist, i know about valves and that hybrids are shit but this dock is just so i can play my music out

There's screws all over the unit but I was wondering which ones specifically hold the cage on?

I was new to the "addiction" about 4 yrs ago. My best advice is to to buy used equipment from a site like Audiogon... and SAVE hundred/thousands of dollars. New audio stuff is all over-priced... .buy USED. And try to shop around a bit... try to avoid impulse purchases.... I can't even follow my own advice. Good luck.

dont get this. get an all tube amp or make your own. this amp is a hybrid amp which means the preamp is tube and the power amp is solid state. im my opineion your beter off by getting a normal ipod dock than this thing because if you want tube sound from this, you wont get it. i do hoever recomend a kit from s5 electronis. they 8 and 16 watt kits that go from $150-$300.

james what is the difference between the red and the carbon other than color ? can i plug in rca plug from an old tv that does not have s connection?

not really no im actually quite respected thank you and my opinions are my opinions and i do know what im talking about. Ive found more satisfaction buying old audio gear than this new crap which seems to destroy audio. Remember things were made better years ago and to last.

ive actually heard the thing for real in the flesh in real life. Ive been listening to quality audio all my life and quite frankly i know what im talking about. The unit would suit someone if space was an issue i agree with that but otherwise i would be stupid to buy one

I heard the updated version of this in the Apple Store and it sounded better than the other products on display. (It is very expensive).

I lean towards the negative on that one, i shall stick to my Pioneer A91D and ipod dock combo as its probably better for what i need

not going through computer speakers its running throught the amp described in comment and listened on a pair of beautiful sounding B&W 602 S2 speakers all bi-wired and mains filtered. I know my shit dont worry ive been in the game a few years and had many systems, amplifiers, speakers, cd players, sound cards. So i have a right to judge this setup plus ive heard one in a shop and thought it was a nice sounding but rather pathetic setup

if you think this thing is expensive you really don't know much about high end audio. Yes, CD and analog are better, but if you're gonna use an iPod, this is one of the best devices out there for extracting the maximum of data. Closest competitor is the Wadia iTransport, but it requires an outboard DAC which is extra money. Stop talking like you know anything.
