  • great cover. Except i would try adjust the bass down a little and uping the treble. it sounds like the amp is blasting a bit and covering up the bass notes

  • great job! just needs a little feel to it.

  • Nice job! Swing that line! :-)

  • It was great! And yes it's relentless...

    Nice timing...

  • Nice job. You stayed in the pocket the whole time. Staying in the pocket goes beyond keeping it tight with the metronome. It's something that is felt. You're impressive to be self taught. The last couple of years I've been doing the self taught thing too on sax. Greatness comes from mastering the fundamentals. I try to stick to what my music teachers taught me back in the day and it truly makes a difference. Keep doing your thing. Listen to everything you hear and feel it inside. Peace.

  • I have studied Nathan Watts and am an acomplished real deal bass player. You have worked hard on the finger ,note work. What you need is the plucking style and the elephant growl, and you need much work on that.

  • @zumbacindy1 Just curious. What do you mean by "plucking style and the elephant growl" ? I think she did great !

  • Nice Stingray, it goes perfect with this era of music. Few people realize that the Stingray is actually a Leo Fender / Tom Walker / Sterling Ball designed instrument they produced while CBS was destroying the original "Fender" company Leo built. Leo was a silent partner due to a no compete clause in the contract of the sale between Fender and CBS but later became president of MusicMan when the contract expired in the mid 70's. The MusicMan is much more of a Fender than the Fenders.

  • I love how you refer to this bassline as relentless! You are awesome!

  • funny looking kitchen you got there

  • Nice Job, amazing perfomance !!

  • That was great!

  • Great playing, mama!!!!!

  • Great job! How long did it take you to teach yourself? I am getting ready to self teach myself at the age of 45. Yikes!

  • 32 people like Justin Bieber instead.

  • Epic! I love this song!

  • It's a chick playing bass!! :O This is just brilliant, amazing tone! :D

  • Very precise, lacks a tad of groove

  • awesome show. I think your hands could still be more relaxed.

  • Great....precise playing. And you're very attractive!!

  • Great job. Relentless is the word :-)

  • It sounds great :)

  • @preo2 I guess the tongue-in-cheek is lost in the typing alright but come on!! - its the most obvious sarcastic comment and a quite clearly a huge compliment to her playing!!! Take a chill pill and work it out ! ;-)

  • Relentless is an understatement. Well done!

  • very nice, i am a drummer, and i want to play now

  • The world needs more girl bass players :)

  • Very good! The stone cold face (smileless) could be changed. Nothing better than watching a woman laying bass smiling.

    Very good job.

  • awesome..

  • This is pretty good! Keep it up!

  • Solid groove. Me like. :)

  • Great Job! Love it.

  • I used to play this song when it first came out. 56 now.

    You really nailed it.

    Good Job!

  • you go girl. love your playing. i play this on my bass also.

  • WOW! WOW!

  • YOU ARE WAY COOL WITH YOURS, SIS. TAKE IT FROM AN OL' SCHOOL CARD CARRYIN' FUNKATEER FROM DETROIT.

  • you've got a rather tight pocket! good stuff

  • Hi Honda Girl!

    Great playing! Very inspirational.

Im based in Edinburgh UK. A mad bass player,Just switched to Roundwounds today.Awesome!

If I come to LA do you want to meet for a coffee and bass chat?

  • Nice! You've inspired me to learn this once I'm done struggling through Sir Duke!

  • your getting funk all over the library!

  • it's the wrong key, it is normally a half tone lower, it begins with an Eb not an E.

    must be the mirrors indeed!

  • @schimmelpenninq I'm tuned 1/2 step down on all strings.

  • @Honda599Girl Its funny when people judge by the way something looks rather than listening isnt haha Well done though, never see many female bass players round here in MS, they usually just pose with the bass not play, well done, i have my own version of this, a fake version that i use when playin gigs

  • Dope.

  • tight!

  • Noice, very smooth technique. Got me grooving and trying to play along, which is all good!

  • Groovy! :)

  • fine "in-gruuuv" !!! =))

  • well done!

  • Having not read all your comments here.. question for you. Have you always played the bass, or did you start on cello? Just something about the left hands precision that seems like more classical instrument training. Nice job nonetheless!

  • @DoneByNoonWoodwork Thanks.

I'm a self taught bassist with no other training.

  • @Honda599Girl no kidding you're self taught too? how long have you been playing? oh and yes, you're amazing. and yea, this bass line is relentless, this is the first bass cover ive seen of the song; i tried learning it by ear. kinda hard. anyways, even tho other people say you're expressionless, i see you bobbin your head to the music, and really that's all you need to groove. gotta have the groove to play the funk, and i gotta say, you got the groove :)))

  • @DoneByNoonWoodwork It's because she's female I think. It always looks different from a male playing the bass.

  • wow! i really like your feel of your playing, love ur right hand technique, im learning this song at the moment, im doing it by ear so yeah lol. very nicely done! great job

  • It took you to about 0.50 to forget you were recording and get into the groove, but after that you smoked it!! I loved watching your fingers just spider all over the fretboard lol. Good work.

  • NAILED IT!!!! well done

  • You work out the line from tabs, ear or both?

Tell me something else, if you will -- why is everything good you've ever played influenced by Jamerson. Why is Jamerson so good, do you think?

  • you are a great bass player!! some of these dudes are just jealous because u can take bass jobs from them if u wanted too!! keep doing your thing!!

  • I have the old fender string ray that looks just like yours except it is fretless..is that an Ernie ball or an original fender sting ray?

  • @blueswater4 It's a 1998 Musicman Sterling

  • Any bass player that can sit in the pocket on a Stevie tune is the sh*t in my book! Honda599Girl is no exception! Excellent work! Do you play live with anyone?? I'd be down to check you out!

  • You look and sound awesome.

Wanna come play with my p bass?

  • really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work...!

  • Hey I think you are really good! Nice work :)

  • Pretty hot if you ask me...and the bass playing is exceptionally good as well!!!

  • Hello,

Great Playing, trying moving your bass amp further away from the mic, it should sound better.

    R

  • nice!

  • I think you're playing is good (for a woman - just had to throw that in somewhere) but I didn't much like the tone, you may be overdoing it on the bass setting which sometimes sounds great for achieving a nice smooth sound but when it comes to recording the sound of the bass is ruined due to the compression.

    Great bass as well.

  • @IchHasseDasSausage Thanks, I guess, for the back handed compliment.

My old Sony video camera is picking up the audio with it's little microphone,

so I don't have much control over the tone.

  • @IchHasseDasSausage For a Woman?? What the hell is that supposed to mean asshole? People like you make me sick, it's a damn fine cover if you ask me, I couldn't see any faults, you're just an over-critical sexist who can't see anyone elses talents because you've got your head shoved too far up your own arse!

  • DANG!!! YOU DAH MAN!!!...... in a good way.

  • Woo-hoo! Great playing. I'm a Honda and Stevie Wonder fan! I got i both ways. My first car was a Civic, then a couple of Odysseys (now a family man) and my first bass is a Cort 5-string. Go, woman!!!!! Love yer werk!

  • Soooo ace! :) You go GIRL

  • Super Job.....Major vibe!

  • Awesome job....and hot too ;)

  • VERY GOOD..swing..swing..groove..awesome!

  • You go girlfriend, play that bass.

  • Usually the words 'relentless' and 'bassline' being used together make me die a little inside. Then I heard this cover. Thanks for being a bassist and in general, being alive!

  • I've watched a few of your videos and speaking as some one who has played Bass for 28 years now, you got some Chops darlin'....and a bunch of axes marry me...lol. ;)

  • haha shes kinda bad ya know ;)

  • This is great bassplaying.

But I don´t understand why you play in E major, the song is in Eb. Did you transpose the song or did you tune your bass?

  • @henting I'm tuned down a half step and am playing it in Eb.

  • This has to be one of the best instructional videos I've seen on youtube.

  • You go Gyrl I anit mad at you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice cover with great groove and sound :).

  • Nice feel..

  • wow...je te regarde.. je suis impressionné...!!! wow.

  • Pretty good!! Nice choice of tunes.

  • Are these Torah books behind you?

(you are an amazing bass player!)

  • @sigalmog Thanks.

    That's the Encyclopedia Britannica.

  • @Honda599Girl There's Wikipedia now, Honda599Girl.

I'll trade you my Beavis-n-Butthead Reading Sucks for your Encyplo Brittanica. huh huh.

  • Very good timing ;D

  • wow u sound awesome.... how long you been playing?

  • Sounds good. Some muting to effect varied note duration would make it that much more funky. Lots of rhythmic possibilities and dynamics to exploit over these 8th notes. Also, there's no need to tune down to play this one. Good to know in case it gets called on a gig...

  • very nice and clean...

  • Damn that is some big ass ET hands!

  • You're the only one I've seen who actually has good timing.

  • @matfei Thank you :)

  • All the people who thumbs-downed this performance are just jealous. Seriously?!

  • Nice :D, I'm a girl to and I'm the only one in the music class who plays bass, it's funny ;D. i have to play this for my music exams do you have tips??

  • You're giving me Happy Feets ! I LVOE your bass cover

Stevie is trying to clap to the beat, but he's so happy gettin into your groove, he's missing is own hands as he tries to clap to da riddum, with a big smile on his face

Have you met Carol Kaye? I know you know the name

  • This video is quite clearly fake. Everyone knows that girls can't play bass. It's amazing what you can do with smoke and mirrors to fool everyone that you're a fantastic bassist with funk in your bones. You're not fooling me that you have great timing and feel. Girls playing bass, Ha!

  • @boabyp :)

  • @Honda599Girl

Great work!!!!!You're so funky and you can play that!thank u coz i've always misenderstood line bass!Thank U and........groove on!!!!!!!!!

  • @boabyp lol

  • @boabyp You are a fag. Face it. She is hot and can play the bass.

  • @dlechler1 Good observation my friend , you like her style and thats big of you to acknowledge. I think you have a unique way of letting people know how you feel as you express it well in your music,I checked out your site. Artist do that get angry, hate ,love feel pain then they groove to something, then people like Honda599Girl are born for us to embrace. Fag is a dried up piece of wood so I will agree I`m sort of old but I know Soul

  • @dlechler1 Ain't no need for name calling, I'm sure he was just making a joke

  • @boabyp Everybody we all have our special gifts and abilities,, none the same as the other none better or worse just different in taste.Women are emotional and created with lots of feeling while men they think more. This woman feels the grove.Video loses quality with download to mpeg 1,23,4 etc. I learn a lot from her calm spirit not just the Bass lines. She is true to the Rhythm, Integrity Keeper but more passion for life, endurance, honest, righteous. Pure Focus,, Seek peace not war, grow

  • @boabyp R u crazy? Girls can play bass. Type in on youtube Lydia on bass 5 and tell me its fake

  • @boabyp Hey, I am a girl bassist loser!

  • @boabyp Please tell me that you are being sarcastic so I can apologize for bitchin you out. :)

  • @boabyp Guess you never heard of Meshell Ndegeocello. She's a Grammy award winning Bassist. I've seen plenty of female bass players in my years of being a musician, excellent ones to. That's just a stupid statement that you made, not to mention sexist.

  • @preo2 I guess sarcasm is lost in typing ;)

  • @boabyp You must;ve never seen Tal Wilkenfeld

  • That's fantastic! Have you been playing for years?

  • you sound amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this!!!! Wow. Inspiring, and reminiscent of days at Santa Monica Music.

Always liked when you crossed my path. She probably doesn't remember me, but say hello to Gretchen for me anyway.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  • Watching you makes me happy. :D

  • Great! Keep on playing this way!

  • exelente......te felicito.....

    victor

  • Wow, excellent job! Where does a guy go to find a chick like you?! Just a bit of (mild) constructive stuff: What you play is flawless. Just throw those funky "slide-way-up-the-neck then apply some tremolo" things in and you've got it down!

  • very cool

  • VERY impressive... smooth transistions

  • brava

  • Very good playing. You should practice playing without looking at the neck. Feel the bass. No disrespect intended.

  • You sound great!

  • @68dbass Thank you Donna.

Getting a compliment from someone as talented as you is an honor.

    You made my day!

  • this is groovey! really enjoyed your bass playing!

  • very nice! Pretty and Talented. Relentless is a very accurate description... Nathan Watts... (I believe) Sir Duke was a nice piece of work as well.

  • That's a bass player!

  • Wow! That was great. When I listen and play this song I don't hear all/some of the stuff you had in your version of the song. You improvised some, didn't you. Anyway I liked it it was an AWESOME JOB. Just wish I could get my ear trained like that!

  • Thanks for jammin' for us. Enjoyed it.

  • hot as rhonda smith in evry way

  • What a badass !!!! God bless youtube for a.d.d. bass players like me. I even like Will Smiths ripoff version, too

  • Great.

  • Great job! You're going to destroy your right wrist holding it like that.

  • nice bass and great playing!

    keep it real!

  • COOL!!!! bravo!!! ^_^

  • :D Sexy bass ^_^

  • cool

  • this song is easier to play then I thought it'd be.

  • This song took me ten minutes to learn it's so easy ahhaha but good work!

  • excellent, very well done.

  • @iflix888 Thanks :)

  • Flawless my dear. Most competently played.

How long did it take you to learn that?

  • @Mowac Thank you for your kind words. I learned it over a period of about two weeks. The main riff was easy, but I had to discipline myself to learn ALL the little details, like the transition at the end of the verse to chorus. Lots of players miss that.

    I love the details.

  • AWESOME as a fellow bassplayer you are wonderful...

  • I like the way you play the bass, i'm living in Liège, Belgium, and i also play bass, but ina reggae music, you should try, it's a another concept, more deep fat sound, and basic on bassline, check panache culture, wathever, it's nice to see a woman play bass... do play with a band ? Can we see you on stage ? Have to be nice... Mohammed from panache culture...

  • you play the bass very relaxt

  • You are a really great bass player. Such a nice and wonderful bassline. I really have a good time watching this bass video clip.

  • Superb job, Honda599Girl!

Not only is your playing super-smooth, but you seem to be perfectly in your element with your bass.

I notice some players seem to be competing with their instruments, but you and the bass are an awesome team!

  • you got it cooking! dont tell my bass player!

  • so good

  • and ur bass is??

  • @StergiosGR Musicman Sterling. 1999.

  • Smokin!!! Awesome job. I love that song and I love hearing those fast walking bass lines. You totally nailed it. :) Thanks for that!

  • Honda 599Girl has a way better feel than the guys.Women have a great affinity with bass guitarThe guys don't know how to "swing" and the skip notes are wrong feel. This tune is easier to play with a pick.

If you're used to playing walking bass lines and know how to "swing",this song is easy.

  • @thugbeast1

Thank you so much for your kind words.

  • @thugbeast1 I agree that she's good. I disagree with the other stuff you said. I think you're stereo typing. I think women are good at various instruments as are men.

  • good stuff!

  • wow, very good !!!

  • Jealous.

  • Smooth and Focused

  • Hey you´r great. How long did you practice before posting this video?

Im sure you took bass cources because you use your finges very economically.

  • OHHH MAN!! SO BADASS!!!!!! I had to listen this a few times it was soo good!! Totally Subscribing!

  • OK you,re great. But you also look so classie doing your thing....

    (comment from a frenchman ^^)

  • next time you talk to fender ask John Gold to show you his jeff finch bass music man hand carved body jazz neck and wooden italian pick up has a really nice soft yet funcky sound..best from rainy london

  • is your bass a jeff finch original or the fender?sorry to be mundane but jeff made only about 6-10 before he disappeared and i know where 5 are and am trying to trace the rest.

    nice playing

  • @frankiebass123

I'm playing a straight off the shelf Music Man Sterling

  • is your bass a jeff finch original or the fender?sorry to be mundane but jeff made only about 6-10 before he disappeared and i know where 5 are and am trying to trace the rest.

    nice playing

  • You GO girl!!! I LOVE all those little double-skips (when you hit the string twice)!!!! You are one FINE bass player . . .

    I see you're married -- is you're hubby a musician also? Are you in a band . . .

  • wow!! this sounds great!!! I want to learn this bass line eventually...love to see some other female bass players on youtube!! =] =]

  • i think i love you.....

  • Amazing feeling, and very good rythm sense. But you must care your left hand and fingers technic, you can damage them.

  • Get it girl!!!
