  • this is such a great song,I saw him when he did it at the war of the worlds musical in glasgow in june that was amazing. Justin has a great voice, brings a tear to my eye hahahha

  • ONE OF THE BEST BAND EVER , but under rated

  • Justin did an excellent job on this song. It was on the album in 1978 or so, and this 2005 performance was great.

  • tells the story of one of the loves of my life, too--named Autumn; she's gone now and I love this song tho I cry every time I hear it...But of' course, JUSTIN'S been the REAL love of my life since 1972...

  • tells of the love of my life

  • FABULOUS

  • wspaniała Opowieść....

    w/g HG Wells'a...

    motyw przewodni...

    :D:D:D ;)

  • Eerie......

  • Reminds me of my childhood. Great song.. LONG LIVE THE OLDIES!

  • Ez igen!

  • We all know he didn't write this song but he MADE it HIS OWN when he sung it.

    Love it!!!

  • Musiclogic, Jeffs Musical version of War of the Worlds came out 79, so u hearing it in 78 is not logical :)

  • Not it came out 78!

  • The song was probably produced several years before the musical, I think already in 72 Jeff Wayne wrote this song so hearing it before the musical went public is actually a probability.

  • Good video. I wish they had done this when I saw them at the ocean center here in Daytona Beach in the states. It was still awesome concert however. I just wish I could have seem the next year with the full orchestra.

  • how could you give anything other than a 10/10 for this performance! this is better than perfect. justin is a legend!

  • i love this song

  • Awesome, absolutely fantastic tears came out of pure rememberance of those brilliant 70's. Richard Burton took us through Welles story masterfully and Justin's singing was absolutely superb and this particular version is just mind blowing, thanks for posting....

  • Remembering the first time hearing this in 78, brought to mind a girlfriend that had just moved away, and still does to this day. Absolutely love this song.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. Lying in my bed with the glow of the black light filling the room. What can I say it was the 70's.

  • One of mine too!!!!!!!!

  • Tks.the very first time i listen to this.

  • Great sound recreation and Justin is singing smooth.5 Stars *****

  • I love you, Justin.

  • I bought "The War of the Worlds" album when it first came out only because the cover said that Justin Hayward/Moodies sang on it. Was it ever worth it. The entire album was awesome! This version of "Forever Autumn" is unbelievable!

  • wow i was expecting this video to be crap but he has done a good job on covering this song

  • he is not covering this song - it is/was his song to begin with . You can't "cover" your own song.

  • I've been listening to this man sing for over 40 years, and his voice is still amazing!! Sing forever---I need you.

  • One of the best singers out there, always beautiful, rock on Justin!

  • This was played at the funeral of one of my closest friends last year, still gets me choked up.

  • ....Justin.... With Music....Holding Together....Worlds......Stay Forever....In This World....Any Time Of Year....In Any World....Justin.... My Dream....

  • my daughter and I saw them perform live in Baltimore last year and they sounded just as fresh and perfect....flawless...the whole performance rocked!

  • This song and Justin's voice sound just as fresh and wonderful as they did 30 years ago.

  • So geil.

    God is still alive.

  • ...einfach nur zurücklegen und träumen...Danke Justin!!

  • honest music

  • So geil!

  • Live ? Is it possible ? This performance is flawless !!

  • Best version this-without those 1970's drums and synth sounds-dont you think?

  • vigrass and osbourne wrote it in the 60's....it was then used as the theme for the lego advert..

  • úžasné,dojemné...

  • LOVED it.

  • Bravo.

  • Justin doesn't need loads of fancy backing. His incredible voice and guitar playing say it all.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but Justin did not write this song...

I always felt the lyrics sounded very much like it could have been, but...

I own an original copy of the promotional 45rpm that was given to radio stations..I cherish it, like all my Moodies LP's !~!

  • This song was also one of our alltime favourites, and i did actually use at my wifes funeral along with freddie mercury "days of our lives" and norman greenbaulm "spirit in the sky". she was 49.

    thanks for this video.

  • my heart went out to you Tony, you must have loved her so. your few words illustrated a lifetime of love and feelings

  • Tony I am so sorry for your loss. The music will always keep your wife safe in your heart.

  • Tony, she has not gone anywhere... like the music that reminds you of her...she stands always by your side in spirit...she awaits patiently to hear them again with you.

  • Tony, it is a beuatiful song. May your wife's love live in your heart.

  • This is my most favorite song of all time, by anyone! Not to be morbid, but this is on my list of songs to play at my funeral! Justin is still sooo wonderful!

  • This is my favorite version of this lovely song. I own the LTSY DVD this is from, and I always come back to this song whenever I watch the DVD. Justin's voice is so lovely on this song, and he looks so beautiful. I fall more and more in love with Justin every day. Long live Justin Hayward!

    Love, Jusfriend

  • I have seen this group grow from the 60s to now. They are still my favorite band and always will be.

  • Happy B'day Justin Oct 14, Wishing many more

  • I really wish that some of the modern "stars" would pay attention to performers such as this to see how its REALLY done.... Superb song..

  • Great stuff! Saw this performed live in OKC at the old Civic Center - late 80's or early 90's. Was particularly fortunate to be seated center - about 12 rows back. I've seen them 3 times - twice here and once in Vegas. Interesting "mix" in the audience - from teens to the grey-haired.

  • That's the interesting mix you get at Moodies concerts. I'm 24 next month and have been listening to them since before I was born. My mum went into labour at their 1984 Wembley concert!

  • That's a cool story!

  • I didn't go into labor during a concert, but both my kids were steeped in Moodies in the womb. My son Justin (Oh yes I did) has grown to be a talented musician in his own right.

  • I would have loved to name my son Justin. but then again I would have loved it more if justin were the father. heehee!!!! (joking)

  • Hauntingly beautiful song even if Justin didn't write it. I've seen the Moodies about 20 times and have never heard them do it live. Justin and John are some of the best singers/songwriters ever. They put on a very classic, refined show. Fans should check out their Red Rocks video from back in 1992. Red Rocks is an amazingly beautiful natural amphitheatre up in the foothills above Denver (I used to live up the canyon from it back in the '70s). Spectacular venue for a spectacular band.

  • All I can say is...WOW!! This song came out when I was 16! My first love had just ripped my heart out, by going off to college, and got a girl pregnant and got married! I remember skating to this song, and crying! Talked to him 30 yrs later, and omg, what a jerk! I wished I'd talked to him 29 yrs before!! I sure didn't lose much if anything!! This song haunted me for 30 yrs until I bought their greatest hits! He truly is incredible, his voice....WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!

  • Can you believe how great his voice still is after singing with the Moody Blues for 40 years!!! What an incredible talent. I'd give my left nut to see him do this song live. Especially since I'm not using it anymore.

  • I don't care whose composition this is. Ive seen the Moody's I think 18 times since 1981, and only got lucky to hear this one ONCE, since its a solo song of his. A rare treat. thanks for posting this.

  • ....This DVD is Great....Lovely To See you....It's A Very Casual Outside Setting....The Moodys Casual Elegant....And....Legendary......

  • See you in London Oct 2008. Royal Albert Hall. Yes. :-)

  • ......The moodys....The Mist....Legendary Men....Beautiful Music....I'm Envious....Watch For The....Fire....Dancing On The Stage.....

  • Thank goodness for Hayward's recorded version. The original as recorded by the song's author is horrible! (but you just have to hear it once in a while, as a guilty pleasure)

  • Justin My Dream....Justin Stay Forever....Autumn Like.... Fire.... Legendary Man.... Like.... Fire.....Impassioned.....And....Sexy.....I Am Beguiled....Justin My Dream....Justin Stay Forever.....

  • fantastic

  • saw them in glasgow a couple of years ago the thing about the moody blues is even live you close your eyes and you would think it was a recording this song is one of my favourites

  • O que é bom já nasce feito, Moody Blues, is for ever.

  • This version makes the hair on my neck stand up......amazing

  • i just listen to this version for the first time wooooh i got such a shiver through my body every hair stood up ...

  • Whow!

    Gives me goosebumps.

I love this song so much, perfect job, Justin.

  • You are SO right, sighracing. I think our world is SUCH a beautiful place because of Justin (and the Moodies.) This would be such a sad, cold, lonely world without them. Please, Justin (and Moodies), stay with us a while longer!

  • I have this two cassette recording. Had to order it special. It is off "The War of The World Album" narrated by Richard Burton. there are many great songs on it.

  • some things improve with age - Justin's voice being one of them . . .

  • All you moody fans out there thanks love you guys, justin is my dream I think these guys are too good to be bunched into the rock and roll hall of fame they need there own hall of fame What beautiful hearts and souls no spiritual burnout like the rock and roll people.

  • You are so right...these guys are angels, they need their own special honors!!!

  • To Honeystay..Finally! somebody who feels exactly the way I do about the Moodies not being in the Hall of Shame. They are too good for them. Justin is a dream-come-true but you can't deny that John is hot for days. That mane of his! Oh my God! They both get better with age! Their cosmic music has carried me in their gentle hold since I first heard them in the late '60s...they don't just play music...they are angels on earth vibrating to the music of the heavens!

  • id just like to say having played music for 32 years myself. what a performance, perfect timing ,and only a keyboard and him hats off to both this should be ranked as a top 10 performance (like they say queen-live aid is )

  • The ultimate musician and untouchable on vocals. There can never be another Moody Blues and what is so special is I grew up with them being a huge influence from the 60's right until today.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I grew up with them too. Love them today (40 years later) more than I loved them when I was 17.

  • It has been awhile since I have really sat and listened to the Moodies and Justin in particular. I set aside a time to listen ... to see if the music was as great as I thought it was then ... IT IS ... thank you sooooo much for sharing.

  • i love this song

    he got a god-like voice

    and the song is beautiful

  • What a pretty song! Justin has a wonderful voice, and he's mighty sexy!

  • I'll be forever Autumn ... I live with it and live it ... a part of my life, a misty life, the later part. I am "the" Autumn Mist and I am it.

    Peace, light and love,

    Autumn Myth (the Mist)

  • Forever ...

  • I'll be thinking of you when I'm there - in the Autumn.

  • This is a great song. It reminds me of love gone by. In fact, whenever I hear these words it reminds me of that lady who was so special to me. Thanks Justin.

  • Well said! This man's music and voice has made my life great! Such a classy man. Highest regards for Justin Hayward.

  • Grace and elegance personified. When young he showed us a sensitive, gentle way to grow up...now he shows us the same way to grow old.

He may never sing at half time during the Super Bowl, but he'll never be forgotten.

  • Absolutely well said. One of the best and most underated singer/songwriters of our time.

This is lyrically one of the best song ever written. The first four lines of the first verse bring the listener into the fall season graceful ease. The song is so descriptive and melodic it should be starting reference for any songwriter hoping to capture the emotion of love lost.

Justin and the Moody Bludes have been continually, and shamefully, overlooked by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • He sang at the opening of the Olympics - that beats half time in the USA. (See the clip here on YouTube). Excellent comments from everyone!

  • A halftime appearance at the Super Bowl or at the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics would be nice, but wouldn't it be cool for Justin Hayward (and/or John Lodge) to sing the national anthem at a major sporting event here in the States (i.e. MLB All-Star Game, World Series, or Super Bowl)? I would be at that game in a heartbeat, wherever it may be.

  • Yeah, no joke. This guy really shows how a rocker can age gracefully.

  • OOH-LAA!!!

  • if is not Hayward's song who's composition is it then?

  • Sorry. "Forever Autumn" was written by Paul Vigrass, Gary Osborne and Jeff Wayne when Jeff was producing Vigrass & Osborne's album "Queues" (released in 1972).

Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" was not released until 1978 (recorded May 1976--July 1977).

  • =/ shocking.. that's my favorite moody's song... they perform it excellent anyway

  • thanks for sharing!

  • Justin Hayward , you've still got it , mate !!! , first class , takes me back to the late 70's

  • Oh my God! This is amazing! First time for me to see Justin sing it Live! Beautiful! I love this band! Loved them since 71.

  • The very best - fabulous - really better with time. Thanks for this lovely video.

  • such an amazing song

  • One of my favorite songs, from an amazing group.

  • I have been fortunate to see them perform twice. They are very few groups that sound just as good live as they do on CDs or albums. The Moody Blues are timeless.

  • You know i wish david soul would have covered this song back then...

  • This man is one of the most gifted musicians and singers of he 20th century, and beyond. He is an original among copycats. A classically trained guitarist among garage bands. A sensitive human being among boors (who ask who put the bop in the bop de bop). We who live now have been given the gift of his presence in our lives. He will be remembered for a long, long time.

  • Amen!

  • Looks a little bit like Robert Redford. But the voice is much better and the song takes me back to the time, when I was a stupid school boy.

  • What is this from??

  • Jeff Wayne wrote this song and produced an album based on H.G. Well's "War of the Worlds". The story of an invasion by Martians is narrated by Richard Burton and contains some great instrumental numbers and this classic song sung by Justin. The story goes that Jeff Wayne wanted the "guy who sang Nights in White Satin" to sing this song on the album, so he called Justin. It's one of my favorite JH ballads.

  • and phil lynott frm Thin Lizzy, done the original guitar solo at the end of the original version,he also did the voice for the character called the Parson,

  • the war of the worlds ...justin was in it this past winter

  • Forever Autumn,Justin forever!!!!!!!

  • Forever endless talent from above that flows thru him, he lights the path to forever peace

  • what a beautiful song written from the soul

  • I love this song reminds me of when I was a child my brother used to torment me for playing it all the time!

  • absolute beauty, comes right from the heart.

  • Justin always gives his heart to these songs! He's a Soul Man!!

  • I always love this song from the day I first heard it many moons ago, and still as much! A real classic! So romatic and unique!

  • this song is pure genius

  • Nobody can sing this song with such touching emotion and sincerity the way Justin Haywood can. Did you know that the writer of the song specifically chose him to sing this song, even before he finised writing it? Great choice!

  • Several of you have mentioned Ray Thomas. Did he really "retire" becuz of "health issues," or is this the "broken friendship mentioned? Anyway, great video.

  • I read that he had health issues-gout :)

  • ...what a history the Moody Blues have produced., their music will withstand the test of time.

  • Hey, as long as they are all still alive, there is still hope. Hopefully Justin won't croak on us or something.

  • Thank you! I can only hope Mike and Ray would be willing to do a few more shows....ah, just a pipe dream. They are as great as ever though.

  • oh so sweet

  • Sob...sob...I justed to listen to this on LP of War of the world! This song stays powerful

  • I miss Ray....why replace him with Nora or a Synth? Nora is okay, but a synth just isn't right....

Oh well, fantabulous performance! This DVD kicks so much ass. (Especially "Higher And Higher"!

  • No Nora (Ray's replacement).....so who is doing the digitally sampled flute?

  • mine too

  • Justin's voice is still as beautiful as ever

  • For an older guy, he's really rockin' it, isn't he?

  • Glorious!

In Fine Voice, delivered with perfection.

And those caramel colored cords suited him well, if not but a bit too roomy. Nice 'look'.

JH surely enthralls and captivates all in his presence.

  • i wish that war of the worlds would come to usa...they will be in uk and oz though...would love to see justin in that setting

  • I know that there is some "rock snobbery" about this singer and band, but you'd have to have cement heart and missing ears not to appreciate this performance. This fellow is quite wonderful to watch and to listen to. Gee I hope I age like this man has. He's just awesome.

  • it's amazing

  • Definitivamente una Obra Maestra.

  • James Olsen

  • twelve thousand dollar guitar...

  • I think I just had an 'ear-gasm'. thanks for the post.

  • What an excellent rendition, I have been a big fan of the Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" project for years, and this is clearly the top song from the album.

Thank you for sharing it with the You Tube community!

    Peace,

    Jim

  • written with Justin in mind by Jeff wayne for war of the worlds!

  • it's the story justin tells on his san juan capistrano tape

  • Great rendition. Would you mind sharing your source, Redbaron?

  • It´s from the DVD "Lovely to see you" 2006. Look at your next DVD Shop.

  • Thanks a lot Redbaron. Off to shop.

  • graeme calls justin their best back up band, just shows their greatness, even more.

  • Great song. Is this the Moodies or Justin's solo tour?

  • From the Moodies tour
