richard i have an original copy of the sheet music from when the song was popular. my aunt played it beautifully...also, rock a bye baby when played in sync is a perfect match.
my music is musty and tattered by i so love th8is song
This was my father's "signature song" when I was a kid. He'd play it whenever he sat down to play the piano for me (1960), and I was always thrilled by it. Brings back wonderful memories. Thanks so much, Richard!
i'm not that good of a player but richard was my teacher at lamar university, by far the best and most respected teacher's i've ever had!!! simply amazing
The only other time I heard of this song was from an old 1950's Paramount cartoon short called "Forest Fantasy". The animal band plays "Nola" followed by a sing along "By The Light Of The Silvery Moon".
@heine71 If I remember right, a spider that looked like Harpo Marx (playing the harp) was one of the characters in the cartoon. I could be wrong; haven't seen that cartoon in 40 years.
I haven't been able to find much of anything in searches of this tune. I am surprised to have found this today. I actually was looking for the George Shearing version. Anyone else familiar with that one?
Been playing this for the past 45 years. Still enjoy messing around with the tempo ( purely for my own imagination ) and to the amusement of my piainst friends
I knew someone whose mother played it as a foxtrot, at breakneck speed. It's a silly tune as it is, but the way she did it, it was hilarious, even in unintentionally.
WOW, I'm sorry I didn't get tickets to the 2pm concert and missed this live performance. I loved the bass accompaniment at the 2:50 mark, then sweetness, before the roaring finale! What crispness of articulation!! thanx for the video!!
from 1:46 it's nice - it's a nice performance anyway! :-D great!

This brings back alot of memories.
My aunt Mary used to play this song.
It was my favorite. During the depression
in the 30's she worked for a music
store playing songs from sheet
music. She and my dad were the
only ones in our family that had a job.
