god did I miss out on a musical era that can never be recreated. damn birth and not coming to me sooner, damn death for getting to jerry so godamn soon
I remember this day well, I was 19 and lifeguarding for the summer. When I got off work I went down to the park with some friends and my brother to spend the evening with fellow deadheads. My favorite memory from the day was the jazz funeral making its way through the crowd just before dusk. We spent that evening hanging out with everyone smoking grass and telling stories. Thanks so much for posting this.
@jnf1222 I'm so glad you found it & enjoyed the memory. My favorite memory was the group of people sitting around the lit candles, softly singing along to "Dear Mr. Fantasy." (It's the scene in the slideshow where everyone is bathed in a yellow glow). As I was leaving the park, I heard someone up on an apartment roof, playing Dead songs on an acoustic guitar. Both of those are good memories for me. Thanks again for stopping by, and please send along any other folks who might enjoy this.
thanks - you have brought back some wonderful memories. i was there in Piedmont Park that night and it is great to see those pics. I miss that time of my life.
Remember the day well... I could not function at work..told my boss a close friend died and he let me take off early...
I then went down to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC and joined about 1,000 deadheads. We sang songs, hugged, lit candles, brought memory books and shared stories...
Hey that's really nice - it definitely reminds me of the one I put on here. I was the DJ at the event in Albany and I remember the one song people wanted to hear the most was "So Many Roads." A local florist donated 1,006 red roses (the station was PYX 106.) That's an interesting cover of Baba O'Riley btw!
What a long strange trip it's been.... R.I.P Jerry G. Garcia - 1942-1995 <3
