@Itachi4forever well, tbh, theres no other way that it couldve ended, really, is there? if Light had managed to kill Near and Mellow, then the manga would probably either keep looping with more L-like people turning up, oooorrr it would just keep going showing Lights eventual rule over Japan. If the manga carried on in either of these directions then it would either get very samey or just boring as hell :P Plus, Ryuk would probably get bored and just kill Light for the hell of it lol :P
