  • The day the earth stood still, was waste of my money.. I was expecting real action since the special effects where awsome. Yet i only see alien who's like human, big gorilla bodyguard, and last a swarm of metal-eating flies. Biggest waste of money ever.

  • Surprisingly enough the recent Thing movie that came out was real good =D has a twist in the end!

  • The 1982 "The Thing" is ossibly the best horror film I've ever seen. Frightening, full of suspense and doesn't rely on cheap scares as much as oither horror films, it's really chilling. I felt wound up in all the paranoia and found myself questioning who's The Thing now. John Carpenter, bravo.

  • did you know they remade the thing AGAIN!

  • @AaronWallace011 no, it's a prequel

  • @Explod1ngNinja either way whats the point theres already 2 great movies of the thing why make a prequel its just gonna be cgi

  • @AaronWallace011 Unfortunately, yes, it's all CG, but even still, they knew they couldn't surpass the 1982 film so they made it true to it. I'm waiting for it's release (read several reviews), solely because I enjoyed the first one so much and in one form or another, I'd like to see a continuation.

  • But has anyone played the game The Thing?

  • @drz2014 I havent played it in years, but I remember it being intense as shit!

  • james, you should REALLY say your thoughts on the new The Thing movie

  • You know what's bullshit James? When some dude that haven't even finished his movie talks shit about classics.

'Vomit' special effects actually show you that that thing is not something that can be defined (like 'vegetable frankenstein' or walking two-face creature like in that new shitty remake-prequel) or described. And that alone adds alot to a movie and moves it away from any monster movie out there. I'd say you should learn from it, rather then take shit on it. Cheers.

    Fan of 1982 Thing.

  • @OttoMotos

You know whats bullshit? When a fan of something watches a video review about the said product from a channel known as the "ANGRYxyNERD"

It's like you deliberately read an encyclopedia dramatica article about a game you like and then bullshit around because it talks bad of it, even though you know that the site does nothing but to say that whatever you look up is a piece of shit, except for things that actually are.

It's all a matter of taste anyway.

  • @Donkeygamers nah i actually like James reviews and a big fan of his work, but i don't think he is 100% correct about everything since he is a human being too. In that particular case i recommend him to change his mind. And actually it wasn't even a joke, if it was like the Thing review in standard nerd style i'd skip all that shit and just laugh. But here it sounds more like 'you guys should know that vomit sfx makes the Thing a not that good movie'...which is not true.

  • @OttoMotos

Well that`s a matter of taste, I personally find puke-inducing effects a show stopper just like him and I wouldn't favor the wobbling-gorebag-mess-of-diarrhea-and-guts-Weegee from the remake over the vegetable frankenstein from the original one either.

There are other ways to depict a shapeshifting monster than to have it turn its guts out. And as for anonomity... Cloverfield did it pretty well too.

So I guess it's really just all a matter of taste there.

  • @Donkeygamers vegetable frankenstein has nothing to do with 1982 incarnation of the Thing. Nothing. And the Thing is not a shapeshifter. It is not even a monster. It is something completely alien to our way of thinking about life and any image of leaving creature. That's why it depicted in such horrible violent way - it is violent to us, but thing has no rules and no standards, it is absolutely alien to earth life. More alien then 'Alien' himself with blood of acid.

  • @Donkeygamers also, James is a fan of the Blob - i like that movie too. And a remake. But i didn't hear any bad word from him about puke-fx in the remake - and it has alot of it. That's alone shows that maybe James just hates the Thing of 1982 due to some reasons. Idk, he makes a lot of puke-fx himself and likes alot of B-movies and he finds Thing's effect that much distracting? Wtf? Do you understand now why i said 'bullshit'?

  • shut up please

  • @Johnlindsey289 Well it seems I'm not the only one you've been bashing. Any noob can repeat or memorize what James just told us, but only false pedantic would not realize the problem of this almost paradox remake of a movie we have. We have the 1951 version remade in 1982, then we have the 2011 prequel. But confusing thing is the 82 remake is "sorta a sequel," meaning the new prequel comes first. So almost by default the new prequel is a remake of the 51 version.

  • The remake of the thing is getting remade

  • i liked ID4.

  • 1951's The Thing from Another World was a poor butchery of the amazing novel "Who Goes There" by John campbell and it had little to do with the original story as the monster wasn't the shapeshifter from the story and it didn't infect anyone, we just got a dumbed down killer plant that cloned itself instead and the characters from the story weren't even in the film as it was just cold war propaganda. 1982's version remains the quintessential faithful adaptation of Who Goes There.

  • My 10 year old brother loves Carpenter's Thing movie. Maybe we're desensitized but the gore didn't bother us; it's obviously effects. When it came out in '82 it was controversial for the gore. I'm more sickened by scenes of things like wife beating or rape than monster movie violence.

  • i think best cinemassacre review

  • Clatu looks like Bill Nye

  • Turns out that remake of The Thing was actually a prequel which I heard has mix of bad and good reviews. But if you want to be technical I guess this Thing would be a remake of The Thing from another World because John Carpenter's Thing was kind of a sequel, or err uhh remake. Fuck it, it's a remake.

  • @JesusL64

NO, The Thing from Another World and The Thing 1982 are nothing alike! they are two separate two very different films. The only thing they have in common is the title and a monster in the arctic, both are adaptations of the novella "Who Goes There" by John Campbell where 1982's movie remains the accurate faithful adaptation of the story. 1951's movie just had some dumbed down killer plant and it wasn't the shapeshifter from the story. Do your homework

  • I love John Carpenter's remake of The Thing, it's my favourite horror movie.

  • 1958 Fly is the best. As the detective guy said..."I shall never forget that scream."

  • Aww c'mon I loved independence day!!

  • @king14166 thank you! me too, well i didnt love it but i did like it alot!

  • I love how I always refer to any of James's videos by searching on YouTube 'avgn' before what I'm looking for.

  • Klatu, for some reason, reminds me of Robert Patrick, or is it just me.

  • @TheBestComicKing He is almost like a clone.

  • lol its hilarious cuz right after this vid was released they announced another remake of the thing

  • Me: They remade The Thing. James: FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • @thesega99 its a prequel to the remake

  • the thing with kurt russel was good i own it

  • saw the 2011 The Thing,

Maybe I was too harsh on it, but i didn't like it

  • ders a naw movie called The Thing movie not a remake it a prequel i like the naw movie

  • what is gort's purpose in "The Day the Earth stood still"?

  • The 1982 one made me vomit-_-

  • The 2011 version was creepy,I saw it with. My gf and shit my pants lo

  • so that's where the verse from Army of Darkness came from

  • today today the thing is a movie again

  • i really love THE THING even though the 2011 movie is much much creeper than the 2009 movie OR IS IT!

  • 9:52

    The Thing: 2009

    ...Need I comment?

  • lol, gotta love that ed wood theme at the end of the vid

  • The thing is our now. Why!

  • In the Thing remake, they are not refering to the original they are rfering to the scientists fro,m the new prequel, just to clear that up 3 years later LOL

  • i can't find the day the earth stood still 1950's on dvd, but i have it vhs for 50 cents, awesome

  • From 08:13-08:22, I'm imaging one of those scientists barfing somewhere, then one of those Things shows up, grabs his face, force feeds him his puke, then it laughs its ass off as he barfs again.

  • to be honest..... i also liked the 1950s thing over carpenter's version.... outside the gory effects, the movie was pretty average.

  • Well, they do remake The Thing again like this year, but I heard that it's a prequel. Why would it called "The Thing"? Should it be called "The New Thing" or "The Thing 3 The Beginning" like it's suppose to sound like a prequel? :l I mean, The Thing for the PS2 and Xbox is like a sequel, but didn't bother call it 2. :P So it's The Thing for the game systems and now The Thing 2011. I'm chronologically confused about the movie titles now. @_@

  • @1989gamemaster lol, you are right.... future generations may not know which movie comes first without some research first... the 2011 goes before the 1982 one but them the 2002 video game goes after the 1982 one.... but lets not forget the classic 1950s movie...... although that one is more of a stand alone movie than being part of the "new" thing series.

  • @1989gamemaster no its a remake of the 1950 thing. 1982 is a sequel and the new movie sums it all up. i dont wanna spoil anything but it shows that in the remake ONE of the things escaped and follows more to the book so people wont get lost becoz the original was confusing coz it couldnt copy it pray so they made it proper with another remake. btw new one....SCARY AS SHIT!

  • @mortalcombat312 I never seen it, but I should give it a watch.

  • @mortalcombat312

NO NO NO, 1982 and 1951 ARE NOT related, they have nothing in common except for the title and an alien in the snow, both are adaptations of the John Campbell novella "Who Goes There" but 1951's version was a poor adaptation as it was just cold war propaganda and it had a stupid killer carrot that wasn't the shapeshifter from the novel. 1982's movie is a stand alone film that is true to the novel and has the characters and monster in the novel, please do your homework

  • @Johnlindsey289 what do u mean stand alone film. its only poorly connected so thats why they made a re make of the veggie killer to make it that they continue of the original shapeshifting thing wen they ignore that it was a veggie killer.dont u tell me to do. more importantly shut up and stop pissing everyone off. let us be.

  • @mortalcombat312

I'm urging you to read the novella "Who Goes There" or look for the audio book to prove that they are two separate and very different films and the monsters are different. 1951's version was nothing like the novella and the characters from the story weren't even in the film especially the monster, 1982's movie was a more faithful adaptation of the story and i'm trying to teach people to do their research.

  • @Johnlindsey289 no its not like that.look im gonna put this in a nut shell. 1982 is the sequel to the 1951 BUT they pretended that the 1951 had a shapeshifting monster and not the regenerating veggie one. thats where 2011 comes in and makes a reboot of the 1951 and changing it to be much closer to the novel and i must say i LOVE how 1982 and the 2011 are closely connected.every seen in that other base in 2011 was seen in the 1982 version.

  • Comment removed

  • @Johnlindsey289 actually no. the thing is a remake of the thing from another world but it was only more closely to the novella.james said and if thats not enough check wikipedia and i dont want to hear some dum shit like thats wrong because everyone knows it was a remake.the reason why i though it was a sequel is because at the end of the thing from another world, he escapes kinda like hes body parts is like one of hes duplicates as he can regenerate and i cant put enough text but yea.

  • @mortalcombat312

I wish 1982's version was called "Who Goes There". YOUR A FUCKING idiot, they have no relationship, they are seperate universes and have nothing to do with each other. 1951 is NON-CANON to Carpenter's movie and the prequel as 1982's movie is a stand alone film they have nothing to do with each other besides the title, they are two different and very seperate films with different monsters and the vegetable didn't infect anyone

  • @Johnlindsey289 wow just to let u no that no matter WHAT u say the thing from another world will be the first movie that copied the book. sure its poorly connected in ALOT of ways but it has used seens from the movie or a seen from the movie and has the monster which they call the thing. u cant say its not based of the novel no matter how badly connected it is if they say its based of the novel(la). 1951 and 1982 are both based of the novel, sorta same title, same map, kinda same monster etc.

  • @1989gamemaster the 1982 is a sequal to the book and the new one is the filling space so since they didnt have the proper movie the one that just came out is that movie

  • how could anyone think that the thing 1982 is slow, i loved it so much

  • most of the people thing of sosers and i think of phantom or spirt

  • the thing is in theatres right now

  • omg nobody tell him the thing remake just came out today

  • @loppyhoney it's a prequel

  • @pollo20x6 of the sequel so its a remake of the 50s one

  • the aliens look like aliens.....NOOOOOOOOO REALLY!!!! ( i know he is talking about the movie aliens)

  • I'd be interested to hear james thoughts on the new prequel

  • @LoneSilverwind yes, i hope james makes a video with his opinion on the new 2011 thing prequel

  • Oz: I actually got to see a screening of the prequel for the Thing and its not really bad. It connects to Carpenters film and while some parts are just Yikes, and first act is well not that fun, it gets better in the final two acts. Plus the Thing both forms are really well done in there own way.

  • the 82 THING movie was a (kinda) sequel to the 51 classic.

In the 51 movie, the scientists discover an alien in the ice.

In the 82 movie, a group is sent in to figure out what happened to the original team.

The NEW thing movie is a remake of the 51 movie BUT the effects are right out of the 82 film.

I hope that clears THINGs up.

  • @misterprickly that does make sense.. however the 1951 thing and the 1982 thing will never be replaced by any remakes, prequels, sequels... those are just the classics :)

  • @EarthboundSNES

Both are adaptations of the story and not related films or is 1982's a remake, NO! both are adaptation of Who Goes There by John Campbell, 1982's version remains a stand alone movie that ignores 1951's version and remains true to Campbell's vision where the 1951 version was just a butchery of the story and is non-canon to Carpenter's film

  • @misterprickly nice pun

  • @misterprickly

NOOOOOOOOOOO, they have nothing in common, they are two separate and two very different unrelated films. The only thing they have in common is the title and a monster attacking scientists in the snow and the monsters are different, they are both adaptations of Who Goes There by John Campbell and are two very different stand alone films while Carpenter's version is the true adaptation of the novella. Please do your homework

  • The new thing is sopose to be a prequel

  • Gort looks like Thomas from Daft Punk

  • the thing is getting remade again this year!

  • yha they are re-making the thing but it looks good.........ish

  • At 9:40 those hands would go great with ketchup

  • imdb said 2009 but the thing is coming out this year 2011

  • top comment ok, here goes nothin......ginger retard! asslicker dickface

  • @Drpwnage9000

There are no ratings, and fuck you whore

  • they're remaking this so excited :DDDD

  • They referenced the thing(1980's) in Godzilla the Series. I forget what episode though.

  • someone please flag this lol jk

  • 4:11 I didn't like the remake to much. Gort looks like a Silversurfer or giant iron statue :(

  • @siralucard19 lol silver surfer would kill gort befor he he made eye contact with him

  • @TheNosferatu5 They are both powerfull, one is huge and resistent, another one has cosmic powers and can fly so its gonna be quite a batttle. Speaking of Silversurfer, have you seen AVGN review on the game?

  • i got the day the earth stood still theme on my ipod

  • I feel the Thing along with Jacob's Ladder are the two most horrorfying movies ever made

  • @Mimasfriend i love jacobs ladder so much

  • th e thing is comig out in 2011 not 2009!!!

  • I always thought The Thing was pretty so-so outside of the gore scenes. Also, the ending sucked. Either way, the new prequel isn't going to have that big of shoes to fill in for me.

  • It's not a remake. It's a prequel. It's set before the 1982 film at the Norwegian base. I bet it'll be shit either way though xD

  • @VashDraven In regards to the "Thing Remake"

  • @VashDraven so true

  • They're making a remake of the thing again.

  • @graboidfan31 i saw it on a poster when i went to see a movie with my family i'm only thirteen but still i loved the original i love the special effects in the remake but when i saw the poster i thought please god make a remake of the original and and don't make a remake of the remake cause that would be stupid but then i looked down to the lower left...OH MY GOD THEY ARE MAKING A REMAKE OF A REMAKE COME ON PEOPLE THAT'S JUST STUPID!!!

  • @weirdvideoscentral Yea, but I can't think of what other movie they did that with.

  • @weirdvideoscentral

Misconception, 1982's movie was not a remake but a faithful re-adaptation of John Campbell's novella "Who Goes There" that was loosely adaptated in 1951

  • i loved john carpenters the thing

  • 13:04 *cough* Avatar *cough*

  • @MrSratticusFinch people act as though Avatar is the only movie that takes effect over story. I like Avatar because the final scene is very powerful. I understand why people don't like it and respect everyone's opinions but the ranting gets pretty old

  • @KelanDWood Obviously there are a lot of movies that focus too much on special effects, but I don't think that makes it an exception. I do agree the ranting is old, but I just couldn't resist. I don't really mind the overuse of CGI that much, I just think it's an incredibly bland story that's been told dozens of times before. If you like it, that's perfectly fine with me.

  • @MrSratticusFinch I do agree that the story is cliche and the movie Dances WIth Wolves told it better. And as hypocritical as the final scene in Avatar is I can't help but be moved by it. I do feel as though if I watch it again I won't like it as much. But currently I like it. Anyways it's your opinion so it doesn't matter.

  • @KelanDWood

Who is better? Sam Worthington or Kevin Costner?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Kevin Costner by far. I enjoyed Sam Worthington in Avatar and Terminator Salvation but his performance in clash of the titans wasn't that good. He was just playing the same character he played in T4 and Avatar. Dances With Wolves and Field of Dreams are 2 very powerful films. And I even like Robin Hood because he's just so awesome in the role along with alan rickman and morgan freeman. Costner is a far superior actor

  • @KelanDWood

So you think DWW is an original film? go watch A Man Called Horse, it did the story before DWW and Avatar combined which both films derive from.

  • @Johnlindsey289 ok i'll look out for it but I must say that I never said it was an original film,I said it's a powerful film and kevin costner is great in it. Just my personal opinion

  • "KILL IT WITH FIRE!" wasn't that from The Thing?

  • Yeah, the scene where the aliens destroy the white house is so famous that the game Shadow the Hedgehog references it.

  • Boomer will live.

  • there remaking the thing again

  • @newsonictheheadgehog It's not a remake, it's a prequel.

  • @newsonictheheadgehog it's actually a prequel called the thing

  • OMG, the guy on the right of 6:10 is from the Twilight Zone episode, "Third Planet from the Sun". :D

  • I like to view the old science fiction movies from the fiftys and sixties. The thing is very gory and gross , the one inthe fifties wasn,t that scary.

  • I like to view the old science fiction movies from the fiftys and sixties.

  • Mars attack was badass.

  • watched the trailer of "the thing"

    doesnt look too bad

  • can some tell me that movie at 0:05 . It looks.............. intresting.

  • @cjcool91 i wonder if it will be good :/

  • @thecoolgroup1 Probably will.....just gotta wait and see....the director said he will use practical effect when ever possible.

  • The movie Killer Clowns from Outer Space was the stupidest movie I ever saw.

  • @TheCopper1234 try watching Plan 9 from Outer Space the worst movie ever made

  • @MickeyLS I think I can one-up you on that buddy. The one movie that's even worse than Plan 9 from Outer Space is the Justin Beiber movie that came out.

  • @TheCopper1234 well it was intended to be like that, it is something that makes fun of itself

  • is it just me, or does an alien race seem possible?

  • actually, the "The Thing" remake looks pretty good...

  • I saw the the new 2011 thing trailer and i might go see it

  • have you herd of the 2011 remake of the thing

  • @ultimateanime45 yes he has

  • hey James what the hell is up with all those chicks in every old horror movie poster you see

  • March 10 1940 is the day the earth stood still

    (guess who was born then)

  • @americancitizeen Chuck Norris.

  • @chaseray21 yep :)

  • Is the Original "Invanders from Mars" on DVD? Im a 12 year old kid and i like old films like in black and white and old like the 1920's films and 50's, Not a whole lot of kids my age like em,

  • @Xitaria i am 12 and like old films

  • @Xitaria Age does not matter.

  • @Xitaria

    Stop boasting !

  • @Drakozap Im not, I was just saying what I like, and it was a responce of what James said, Not bragging in any way >.>

  • @Xitaria

I'm just saying don't brag about being 12. It's nice that you give interest to older films at your age, though.

  • Actually James it is a prequel to the 1980 remake

  • james... isnt there a movie with similar special effects like newer the thing with a walking human head spider

  • Comment removed

  • The Thing was one of my first favorite movies, and i still love it. The news of a remake is worrying. I hope they don´t fuck it up.
