To me, Larry is one of the great drummers of all times. His brushwork is just stupendous! Elegant, swingfull a articulate. Very intense without being bashing. I would hear this album (chek out Israel) everyday of my life!
I do not mean to exaggerate or anything but from my humble perspective this is what music is all about - THIS (to me) IS perfect harmony of REALLY skilled musicians because theygave seemed to ovecome the typical vainities - it seems like they they trust each other and support each other - JAZZ - JAZZ Jazz JAZZ
@akira523: Tragically, Scott Lafaro was killed in an automobile accident in July 1961--just 10 days after the trio's famed live recording at the Village Vanguard was made. This is Bill's mid-'60s trio, with Chuck, as akira523 noted, and Larry Bunker replacing Paul Motian on drums.
@akira523 No, it's Chuck Israels. I also made the mistake of thinking it was LaFaro, but if you go to Israels's home page you will see a photo of him looking just like he does in this video.
HEY! Nardis was written for Cannonball Adderleys quartet, not for Bill Evans. Bill Evans was in the group, yes, and, yes, he was the one who made it famous. But the info text here is wrong.
@kenjames64 check out the performance of Nardis in "jazz at the maintenance shop" (available on youtube) Bill Evans himself says it, is this authoritative enough ?
See Evan's live recording and interview with a small norse conclave in a very tasteful apt setting in which he plays Nardis. During the prelim interview he explains that Davis wrote it for Cannonball but that he seemed to be the only one, at the time, who ran with it (to such an extent that it is associated with him). It's here, on You Tube see Bill Evans-Nardis (1970).
@traredlmp Just curious: How did MTV fuck music up for young kids? I discovered Gang of Four and The Psychedelic Furs on MTV in the early 80s.
The Bill Evans Trio was one element of a 1965 musical landscape that included Herman's Hermits, The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Temptations -- not to mention Dylan. I don't think the "kids" were listening to Bill Evans. Do you?
I'm generally not a fan of bass solos but I found the one in this really complimentary to the music rather than just giving him a solo because everyone else gets one.

The magic in Bill Evans' performances is indescribable. It's just there, you feel it so hard and warm in your body and mind.

i don't know what anyone's talking about. to think that this and donna lee are actually miles davis compositions is nothing short of shameful
billy definitely wrote this one, though for what purpose can be disputed...

JRR951 1 year ago 2

21 years old. Collection of over 50,000 songs.
+ 500 something vinyls that I basically got over time for cheap to free.
MTV is just promoting the problem. Everyone does now. Youth don't have idea of what morality is.
The bigger problem though, is the apathy of it all.
There's still hope though.

It really doesn't have anything to do with morality, honestly. But, your point about MTV is well taken.
