St. Mary's (aka St. Francis Academy) is a home for troubled children. The boys' school where the girls stay overnight is a coed high school currently celebrating its 150th anniversary. It was not a boarding school at the time of filming nor since my childhood.
I just ordered the Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart CD, but I'm still trying to figure out is the voice of the Band in the movie them and if not who? is this Group. Don't get me wrong i still like the way it sounds by Boyce and Hart, but i would still like to have this other version as will. Thank you and I'm also a Big Fan of the 60s era! Good Day to All. Peace and Happiness!
This was filmed in my neighborhood. St Francis is really St. Mary's Home in Ambler, PA. The boys school was filmed at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA. My family went to see this at a Drive-in when I was 7. I love this movie.
Notice how Marvel Ann keeps trying to always be in front of the camera. They must have shot a ton of coverage for this sequence. Probably over a couple of days.
I also went to a catholic private academy when i was from grades 1st to 8th grade and man we had nuns from the long habit to the changing of the habits like this movie ,i will never forget as long as i live, how the nuns bacme very modern with their garb and shortened skirts below the knee of course.but modern,oh the memories man .i play this on dvd always when i am alone and lonely reminiscing of the nun raring 60's days.
@originalvanillabean Your Mom was (and I'm sure still is) very pretty! Rock on Mom! I was around 8 when this came out and I thought the teenagers were so cool! (still do!, better fashions!)
Do you remember that actress who played that mischivieous stident in the first film with Hayley Mills in Trouble with Angels.someone told me she was a one role wonder role because this was the first and the last role she ever made, any truth to thisand i also wonder what became of Barbara Hunter.I believ she made several tv cop detective role appearances like Hawaii Five -O and so many others.
The actress who played Rachel Devery was June Harding. I couldn't find any info about her either. If you do, let me know. She was great!
It seems to me that there were a lot of terrific actors who should have made it big but for some reason just didn't, people like Dan Truhitte, Charmaine Carr, William "Red" Murphy etc. Hollywwod left some great talent by the wayside.
Does anybody know what happened to Boyce and Hart after they disbanded ?I hear they sold millions through others singing h=their songs like the Monkees who several number one hits like Last Train to Clarksville, they were like the beatles with many good songs they wrote.
The world back then adored seeing a nun movie and Hayley Mills brought back that for us to see in Hollywood in modern days back then.Shame Rossalind Russell would be diagnosed with cancer in later years .This might have been the last movies she made for Hollywood. We miss her dearly, love.
You know the Vatican had just passed many changes in the catholic church and the winds were about to change for many including the nuns habits. This would be the last decades we would see nuns in their magnificent habits because the skirt would become tighter and shorter blouses and of course much shorter veils. For many years the nuns get this new habit for modern times yet later much like today the habits are no longer used and thousands of girls no longer entering convents
In fact ,this movie becomes one of the first sequels that would follow in hollywood for many years later.Shame that Hayley Mills did not do the sequel and play the older and mature role of her character from the first movie and instead given to Stella Stevens to playas the crazy nun against Rosalind Russel.
Oh yes nuns meant so much to all those catholic private academys, in fact, so many had so many students and were swamped to capacity and that because our parents wanted all of us to have an education taught to us by nuns, well, thanks to them i do have the best penmanship.those were the cathloic nun school days we all remember who went to one.
Does anybody know what happened to the actress who was introduced to the world by Hayley Mills in the first movie where her best friend Rachel did those insane crazy scathingly weird things that would turn the mother superior insane .Did she just make this one movie wonder and disappear from the acting Hollywood world.Anybody?
we all have definiing moments in our lives, when I saw the pika pika pika on the basketball court as a lil kid I had found that guiding light, I wanted to pika pika pika for the REST OF MY LIFE.
This is such an awesome song, very catchy. LOVED this movie when I was a kid. Recently picked it up on DVD. I seem to keep playing this scene over and over. Again, GREAT song.
Listen to 2:50 that weird background voices and music, I was in 8th grade when this came out, and we thought that sound was all that.
Remember this was before computers and entertainment like we have now, so that crazy music was pretty neat, and only seen at the Movie theater. No cable TV then :)
I loved the Trouble with Angels much better...this one is far more worldly and Sr. George annoys me...rev mother should have dismissed her instead of assimilated to her...
remember when we used to cut our hair in pixies and dance to this at the Milford Cinema in the Summer of 1969...those were the days....they never would end....angels never fall in love....Patty
I was a kid when The Trouble With Angles and Where Angles go Trouble Follows was in the movies and saw it whith my parents, I loved those movies and recently bought them on CD and watched them with my teen daughter who not only loved them but wanted to show them to her friends; it just proves that they can make a G movie that you walk out happy from if they wanted too and still have a hit
I absolutely loved this song! I could never quite figure out why their careers never took off despite their obvious talent for songwriting. Guess it's just one of those things.
If I had ever had a daughter, I would have named her Marvel Ann. The late 60's were filled with pop-culture lures like this movie to make the RC Church seem "cool", like it was "changing with the times." HAHA. His Holiness JPII fixed all that, and the Nazi on the Vatican throne now sure doesn't look like he wants to bring the Church into the 21st Century. No wonder membership is down! Give me back my hippy priests and nuns--most of whom all left because of the hypocrisy/bureaucracy.
I remember seeing this on late night TV as a kid and loving that scene a lot... the song was written by Boyce and Hart who wrote tunes for the Monkees...really a cool song!
I was always amazed at the scenes where everybody is doing an almost orgyastic group body-rub! Very "un-Catholic", even by today's standards. It's like a precursor to moshing. LOL
Wow, Devon is your mom! This has been one of my favorite films since I saw it on Chicago public tv channel 11 in the mid 80's. I have both "angel" films on dvd. I'm 36 y'o and still enjoy this tremendously! thanx vanillabean.
I remember my mom dragging me and my siblings to see this movie. I never forgot this song. I was the best part. Does anyone have the title song for the movie, Way Way Out?.
The Monkees themselves re-recorded their vocals over Boyce and Hart's when it came time to release the songs, including both "(Theme from) The Monkees" and "Last Train to Clarksville", the latter of which was a huge hit.Boyce and Hart also embarked on a successful career as recording artists in their own right, releasing three albums on A&M Records: Test Patterns, I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight, and It's All Happening on the Inside.
It was Boyce and Hart who wrote, produced and recorded (with the help of their band, the Candy Store Prophets) backing tracks for a large portion of the first season of The Monkees, and the band's accompanying debut album.
The band is Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. They wrote most of the Monkees songs.Their partnership made a breakthrough with a song recorded by Chubby Checker, "Lazy Elsie Molly", in 1964. They went on to write hits for Jay & the Americans ("Come a Little Bit Closer"), Paul Revere and the Raiders ("(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone") and The Leaves ("Words"). The latter two songs provided the Monkees with hit B-sides in 1967. The duo also wrote the theme song to the daytime soap Days of Our Lives
There's this really tall guy in white pants and a dark blue striped shirt who is a terrible dancer, it's funny, he really stands out. You can't see him so good on here though.
I used to love this movie as a kid, especially this dance scene. I just saw it again a few days ago on TCM. I expecially love how Marvel Ann keeps chasing the tall guy in white pants but he completely brushes her off. hilarious.
I don't know how you guys dig these things up. I've been looking for this clip for awhile now. It brings back a lot of childhood memories of the 60s. When I'm dancing in a club today, I still can remember this fun dance sequence, which I saw when I was about 8-years-old.
thank u for posting this I remember watching this with My mother and I just loved this one and the first one with Haley Mills the trouble with angels....

I don't know how you guys dig these things up. I've been looking for this clip for awhile now. It brings back a lot of childhood memories of the 60s. When I'm dancing in a club today, I still can remember this fun dance sequence, which I saw when I was about 8-years-old.
