so sad to see it closed.. sit in wont do anything im afraid... should sit in at dail eireann... get those fat cats out of government.. best to the former workers at Waterford from Cork...
Why did you select the Waterford Crystals figurines? Did you not like them? BTW, Waterford Crystal factory has closed down today after 210 years of business.
Yes, I heard that Waterford closed down. It is a shame. I am not an expert with crystal and I just didn't know what I had, and when I was selecting things to give away, I tried to choose figurines that looked the best. I guess my instincts were good after all because three of them were Waterford. ((sigh)) My friends were very happy!! - roc
OH! I feel ya pain! <-had a garage sale think you call em yard sales before my moving to Australia from NZ and i sold a clock, for about $20 a present from my husband, now my ex hubbie, maybe that was a omen, the same clock was estimated to be $300 worth by the local jeweller as my garage sale recepient told me, a swartz crystal
OHH Roc! I just watched this. That must have been a terrible feeling when you realized. But how could you have known. Hopefully those that got them will treasure them.
This is one of those times ya wanna believe what goes around, comes around and it will come back to you in droves.
Spilled milk and all that. I feel for ya. I really do. I sold thousands of dollars worth of collectible model trains at a garage sale for $15. My older brother was a little perturbed to say the least. :)
Oh my! How wonderful! My grandfather was a painter at Royal Worcester Works - I have one egg coddler that goes way back in time. It is a treasure, as your grandfather's crystal is, I am sure! - r
im from waterford. my mother stoped workin there because there not makin the glass hand made any more and every body is gettin fired so waterford crystle going to be gobe soon
roc, you owe it to your friends to let them know what they have to prevent them doing the same thing you did and feeling bad afterwards..If your aunt had told you what they were when she gave them to you, things would have been different for you too.
-sigh- I guess you are right. I am seeing almost all of them just after Christmas. Perhaps if I tell the story in an amusing way, everyone will laugh. I don't want anyone to feel obligated to return any. They then can become a treasure with a story! Thanks for the advice! - roc
Guess what? My other half collects crystal figures and has some collection. Swarovski is beautiful crystal but oh so pricey. Great vid roc! (((Hugs)))
Eight. I am trying to put it behind me! I think it is amusing that everyone thinks I was being generous! I was trying to save a bunch of money by "re-gifting"!!! Hah! Oh well. Such is life! - roc
Ouch! I have a similar feeling yet different situation regarding collectibles. All the Star Wars action figures and playsets I had when I was a kid, the ones I used to tie and tape fireworks to, now command nice sums of money. And I blew them up! It's too painful to even mention the 18" tall Alien action figure that I dismantled when I was 7. I feel your pain, differently, but still feel it. At least you gave them away instead of destroying them, LOL =)
I KNOW! I hate to tell you about all the Superboy, Superman and Archie comics I had - from the 50s. The small box went into a dumpster in the 60s. Big sigh. Ah, the things we learn too late. I have one Yoda from the 70s - want it? - roc
The party was under duress for me, but you should know that I was charming and didn't throw anyone out until after 10:30. One of my friends brought over all her Christmas stuff to decorate because I don't do it. And now with the crystal thing - well, I am done with parties. - roc
Oh girl I feel for you. If they only knew what you had given them, My mom is a collector of little crystal animals and she has taught me how to spot the great ones. She has a set of waterford cystral goblets and some small animals which are mine when she goes as my sister could care less.
Oh and I live less than 200 yards from the actual showroom and factory and never being in, going to show on vlog soon when I get my mini dv.
We have a few bits of Crystal in the house and the green tag is known worldwide and never hears of Austrian Crystal, Beth showed the Crystal as a promise to me.
OMG,OMG... I'll bet your guests at that party think you are the best and can't wait till you have another party and hope they get invited! LOL How generous of your Auntie to gift you with such treasures!
Yes - I didn't show the swarivski crystal - there were about 40 of those all in their little special boxes. Clowns, pigs, teddy bears, birds - all kinds of sparkly things! They are in a curio cabinet. - roc
They also have their seahorse etched into the crystal itself. I do hope your guests realize that. This is how things end up on the Antiques Roadshow, I suppose. "I got this at a yard sale for fifty cents." I always wonder how people don't know they are letting go things such as this. Now I do. I hope you're not smarting too much.
A little bit - but I remember the box being a bit overwhelming at the time. I thought the all bigger non swarovski crystal was just glass. I will be more careful in the future! - r
say, i'm one piece short for the start of my collection of italian sportscars, they're fairly worthless to some people, so if you happen to have one lying around, and want to scrape off the lamborghini sticker, it'll be alright, i can take it off your hands.....
I am sure they still don't. And I don't think I can really tell them! They would probably want to give it back and that would just make me feel guilty! -roc
Well, after picking my jaw up off the floor, I have this to say: You payed it forward w/o realizing it; it's only stuff; you're in no better or worse shape today than you were before you knew the value; AND BEST OF ALL, you got a killer story out of it. The story value of this alone outweighs the value of the figurines.
You're right. We are all going out for dinner before Christmas - I am trying to decide to tell them or not. I don't want anyone feeling as though I want the things back! Nor do I want to hear "Oh, that thing? I threw it out" Yikes! - roc
LOL... Thanks !!
