@wowow153 I don't question that the CO can lose to a pit or equivalent. But it's all depending on the two dogs in question. I guess it all comes down to training, and the pits are unfortunately bred and kept for dog fighting unlike the LGD's. I share your view on the use for the dogs. It's pretty sad that perfectly good dogs are bred and kept exclusively for fighting. That's why many countries have or are considering banning those breeds. Mainly because too many morons have them...

@ KooKooBoomBoom - APBT, Tossa Innu would kill both CO in an instant, because COs are NOT best at fighting, never the less i agree that COs are massive (heaviest weigh 100kg), but size doesn't really matter when it comes natural fighters like e.g APBT. In fact Dogo is in second class and COs in third class (Dogos can kill COs in most cases). So pls don't use size as a reason to why a dog can win a fight. Even i bet a scrawny little girl can kick your butt, lol.

These dogs are just like Sivas Kangals and Alabais(top fighting dogs that have several wins against top Tosas and top game APBTs). They have their size and defensive aggression; and use it to their advantage over the smaller fighting dog.

Since a pitbull is so stubborn and not concerned with it's own life, it may outlast the bigger dog.

Dog fighters want to win money, right? that is why Pitbulls, Kangals and Tosa Inu's are arguably the most famous breeds for dog fighting. Don't get me wrong, many breeds produce dogs that are excellent fighters and well-built. Just not as common as those breeds that i listed.

You're absolutely right. The CO and CAO are not very common in dog fighting outside of Russia.

I've watched some russian dog-fighting vids out of curiosity, and the russian herding dogs are very competitive. Their drive is not attack oriented, but their defence drive mostly does not allow for the other dog to get an advantage. Endurance-wise, the CO is as good (often better) as any other dog.

CO can't beat a pit bull in the fight. It CAN happen, but very rarely. When pit bulls came to my country, their owners took them to Šar Planina and earned a lot of money. They put their dogs into fights with Šarplaninci (subvariety of CO) and bet on their dogs. The owners of big shepherd dogs were laughing at first, but... Those were REAL experienced fighters not some exhibition dogs but they were no match for pit bulls.

Well, you're correct to a certain degree. Of course a pit can beat a CO or Sarplaninac. The fact that these herding dogs are used to protect against wolf and bear gives them an advantage. I've seen vids from Georgia where CO's and CAO's give rottweilers, pits and molosser dogs a good thrashing without any real problem.

Yes, you're right, and that thrashing always happen. When we talk about a real, professional fight, APBT will win 99 % of fights because it can endure CO's or Šarplaninac's storming. An experienced APBT will always apply defensive tactics against bigger dog till the moment he senses that his opponent is tired. I've been in the world of dog fighting (I'm against animal abuse though), and believe me, fighting dog is fighting dog. No shepherd dog is his match.

I NEVER saw CO or Šarplaninac won a fight against APBT. It NEVER happened in my country which was Šarplaninac's homeland. Of course, I'm talking about serious professional fights, not some street bullshit. I would put in jail owners of CO who pit their dogs with APBT. It simply isn't humane.

@KooKooBoomBoom actually i have seen amstaffs n pitts facing-off CO, CAO, akbashes, n kangals. have travelled around eurasia, so. whatever you have said is pretty much accurate. they are manhandled like rag dolls. the pits die basically becoz of their owners' training. i have seen a CO give up at least 3 times, before killing the pit, becoz the poor dog kept coming back - i was feeling sooooo pissed off with his owner.... but thats a diff story i guess.

@nagarajaramalinga That's exactly my point. These "natural fighter" dogs (APBT, staffys etc) are basically trained to be suicidal. They have a mental disposition that puts them in the red zone very quickly. In those situations, an APBT can beat a CO if the CO is a little "weak". The CO will not fight the same way as a pit dog, since it is far too smart.

I've experienced "stupid" amstaffs first hand. My dog (wolfdog) would have killed them given the chance.

However, even if "organised" dog fighting is purely atrocious, dogs still want to fight occasionally. When that happens, you need to know (at least hypothetically) what kind of fighter your particular breed is. What makes them tick, level of aggression etc. If you don't, it can quickly become ugly.

If this were a real fight, the CO would kill the dogo or any other dog in less than 5 seconds... I own a CO, I know... COs are the ultimate fighting dog. But mine is very socialized and knows he will be punished severely if he does fight.

Dogo Argentinos were bred to hunt. Its creator wanted a dog that was NOT dog aggressive, powerful jaws, and could hunt in packs, so the Dogo has a HIGH prey drive but is not very dog aggressive, although it will stand its ground when another dog shows dominance. Most dogs go for the neck when they play since the neck is the most sensitive part when it comes to bite. Submissive animals expose their necks to higher ranking animals as a sign of submission, though this is not an example.
