Nice to know even the great pianists play in between doing their D.I.Y. I guess he must have just finished whitewashing his house judging by that shirt!
@OrangeSodaKing --Quote from Emanuel Ax--All of us love applause, and so we should – it means that the listener LIKES us! So we should welcome applause whenever it comes. And yet, we seem to have set up some very arcane rules as to when it is actually OK to applaud.---see his blog on his web page for the rest--it's under when to applaud.
@bluecape2001 Sorry, this was before YouTube's new reply system where it would say @ and then someone's name. I was replying to someone who asked where the applause was. And although I partly agree with you, I would still feel very awkward if I applauded between movements, unless the performer encouraged it or something like that. But thanks for your insight and the reference to his website! I'm going to see Ax perform in November, by the way. :)
absolutely stunning

You don't clap in between movements of a concerto/sonata/any other piece with movements.

Excellent performance.
You should also have a listen to the recording by Zoltan Kocsis and the San Francisco Orchestra. Another excellent performance indeed.

I agree. That was the recording I grew up on as a kid. That one and Rachmaninoff's/ You brought back old memories.
