In one interview with co-creator Joe Simon, he never mentioned this film and the other previous ones in his autobiography 'My Life in Comics'. He states:
"I had absolutely nothing to do with those, and I think the less that’s said about them, the better. They weren’t good, and they certainly weren’t important to me. By the time they came along, I had much better things to do."
Off-topic: Maybe someone will say to me that anime is 'kiddy'. And that's dumb. Can't wait to see an anime Cap.
We will see a reboot after this. A reboot which features a 'mature and realistic' Captain America which is accurate in the comics but the Ultimate version instead (including his personality). We all know that the Ultimates are more like a modern realistic version of the Avengers yet they're more... jerkier.
Yes, being a xenophobic douchebag makes that reboot being better than "The First Avenger" because 'it's mature and realistic'. 'Surrender!? You think this letter stands for FRANCE!?'
@tkmaster17 Well...The Red Skull was never really in Hydra in the comics...but I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything. I see the 90's film as one that had a lot of potential in some areas but failed to develop properly. The new is superior. But focuses on other ideas instead of the gloomier ones here.
I'll bet this one is 100 times better than the 2011 version. It was gar-baj! Same goes for Thor and Hulk. Good thing they aren't doing an Avengers movie.........oh shit I spoke to soon.

TROLL. :P
What's so better of having an Italian Red Skull and his silly ploy on kidnapping the President and Cap's crappy rubber suit as opposed to the 2011 movie which it was very done right?
@TheEternalRider If Kirby was still alive he would likely have gave the dreadful First Avenger film a thumbs down as well, especially considering how badly they fucked up with the casting of Rogers/Capt.America.
I would much rather watch the 1990 Captain America any day over the 2011 version, because overall it was a better film.
Disney completely crapped all over the franchise with that dreadful, childish, badly cast, boring 2011 film that also featured terrible CGI.
@TheEternalRider Hopefully within the next few years Captain America is given an early reboot because it desperately needs it after that Chris Evans disaster. Also when the next reboot happens hopefully Disney are no longer running Marvel's movie biz.

Oh yeah, Disney didn't make this so that is a flawed logic. They don't touch Marvel's properties and they handled the marketing.
Heck, it's like you just wanted every superhero film just like The Dark Knight. Like I said, making dark-themed superhero movies are almost like magic.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Disney never touched Marvel's properties, troll. :) Despite the negative votes, the butthurts are still unavoidable.
If you want to see a 'mature and realistic' approach, then they should use the Ultimate version completely (including his personality). There's nothing 'mature or realistic' about the 1990 movie; about the Italian Red Skull and his silly plot on kidnapping the President, Cap goes Dennis the Menace by saying "Gee whiz, Mr. President" and his accurate yet craptastic rubber suit

@TheEternalRider The only troll on here is you! You are clearly some little kid who only got into Captain America via the dreadful and childish First Avenger movie, and are now angered to find out that your hero Chris Evans was completely wrong for the part of Rogers/Capt.America and was hated in the role by everyone that actually has knowledge on this franchise outside of that crappy movie he starred in.
Sorry but the troll is still YOU because you want to destroy something you consider 'childish' w/o looking critically. And the everyone you're 'talking' about are nothing but the angry whiny fanboys like you who wanted every superhero movie being 'mature and realistic' w/o thinking of the pros and cons (using The Dark Knight as an example, which is not the case). There should never be a 'dark, mature and realistic' Superman movie 'cause it will ruin the character itself. Makes sense? :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@TheEternalRider When you grow up and stop watching crappy kids films, I suggest that you give both The First Avenger and Captain America (1990) a re-watch and should you be a normal adult then you will see that Captain America (1990) was certainly a better, more mature, realistic and better cast movie. You will feel like a right tit for ever defending The First Avenger and the hugely miscast Chris Evans in the lead role.
When you grow up & stop whining & start to think critically as a comic book fanboy but you have a shit taste to begin with. There's nothing realistic and more mature about the things that I have mention so better to re-watch it. What matters is not being 'mature and realistic' but what is done RIGHT. Sorry troll, but "The First Avenger" have done RIGHT (even though Cap was played by Chris Evans) compared to the previous ones. Only the 90s Fantastic Four movie is better than this one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No normal adult will agree because most of those who state it was horrible is due to most comic book fans. I've watched it as a kid back then and it was good but after watching 'The First Avenger' the latter turned out be the better film because THAT was done RIGHT. It's like saying that V for Vendetta film is a better one compared to this because any normal adult will agree but in reality, it's not. And worse, that film suffered from the wrath of creator Alan Moore.
@TheEternalRider Sorry to tell you this little boy, but you are the only troll on here! Whenever somebody posts a comment preferring the 1990 version over the First Avenger you are quickly on the case, responding to them and labelling them as a troll. You must sit at your computer too much and when you are not doing so you must be watching more of your crappy kids films. If you don't like the 1990 film then don't hang around on the trailer for it. Go elsewhere you sad troll!

Nope, little boy. You're going EMO over here. The troll here is none other than you because of you having a shit taste and that's it. I don't need to be a kid to enjoy the 2011 film; what I need is to have a wider thinking, getting real and just enjoy it. The problem on the likes of you is that you grow up and becoming too narrow-minded and wanted every superhero movie for adults only and uses 'The Dark Knight' as a measuring stick. Hey, a closet Nolanite, eh?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Like I said earlier, you wanted to see a reboot featuring a 'mature and realistic' Captain America that was COMPLETELY based on the Ultimate version (including his character). THAT is 'mature and realistic' because Ultimate Cap is a xenophobic douchebag and sometimes goes rouge. I'm looking forward to that.
And on the contrary, I think it's you who should go somewhere else. I can even call the 1990 movie as a 'crappy kids film' because of 'Gee whiz, Mr. President.'
The costumes from both films were good.90's version sticks to it's roots and presents what most people grew up with from the older comics. The new one leans more towards the Marvel Ultimate look. As for the actors, Matt Salinger was a better Captain America because he portrayed the strong leader that Cap is known for.Chris Evans, well, before and after becoming Captain America, he still looked weak and his personality made him seem like he was a whiny little wuss and he had no onscreen presence.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
On the contrary, this is a complete joke compared to The First Avenger. Yes, they use the Ultimate look for the new movie but his personality is still faithful to the Golden Age and Silver Age portrayals. And the 90s costume is not accurate either by giving him a crap rubber suit instead.
Anyone that says Chris Evans was a good choice to play Steve Rogers/Captain America clearly knows nothing about this franchise!
Chris looked nothing like Steve Rogers from the comics, he didn't fit the strong leadership type personalty that Rogers/Capt.America has, he looked absolutely stupid with that hairdo he had in the film, and he is an average at best actor.
Chris Evans was a dreadful choice for the role and will likely always be known as the worst Steve Rogers/Captain America ever!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just because of his hairstyle? Meh. I think Chris Evans is good at portraying Cap on the way he acts and not his hairstyle, stupid but let me tell you that this movie is a complete joke.
Biased troll is biased. Yours is not facts but OPINIONS, making you the worst person EVER because you're an opinionated jackass. You know NOTHING on how things WORKED. :P
@NewcastleEmperor Jensen Ackles was offered the role, and even said he really wanted to play Captain America since he is also a huge Comic Book fan. Sadly Marvel thought Ackles was too old and gave the role to Chris Evans who don´t even looks like Steve.
PLEASE type in GREEN LANTERN THE ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY it is the true story of how GEORGE LUCAS sent off duty CIA agents to threaten my Mother with guns PLEASE check it out thanks
We should all keep in mind that there is a very large time difference in the modern 2011 movie and this one. They didnt have the same CGI or actors. I like them both. They both are Marvel, and both incredably timely.
U know people, when I read your stupid comments about Captain America 2011 movie being crap or watever and about this movie, I think u need to get a life. it's just a FreakEN MOVIE! And like when u say u need to grow, u yourself needs to grow up!!
Captain America 2011 is the best hands down. Had heart, great characters we grew to care for even if you werent a comic book fan, great script, action, direction. Chris Evans is the best Steve Rogers and you can't remake the romance between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in that movie. 2011 ftw.
@davedirector7 Agree, the 2011 movie is great. The 1990...well I didn't see it but since it is an Albert Pyun movie you can't expect much, just check the director's career and you'll see what im talking about.
ihate the new 2012 look for captain america... he looks gay like this one... i really like the first avenger one (2011)... that one was too dope and creative...
I like the mask connected to the rest of the suit wit the wings on the side.. They should've found a way to add it to Chris Evans suit in the upcoming avenger movie
i believe the new captain america was really good. most of the remakes are shitty but they did a really good job on remaking captain america. i know the red skull in this movie looks better but the new movie is one of the best remakes
The bad thing about the crap rubber suit is that it was easily torn during a fight scene; I'll go for the original chainmail suit instead. But The First Avenger used the Ultimate route, which is a nice catch.
they should have shown this in theatres a month before showing the NEW version of it that came out a few months ago to make the new one seem even better by comparison.
@Sotaris If anything, times have actually gotten far worse for film, not better. Films nowadays are mostly ruined by totally unrealistic and stupid looking CGI.
Only children get wowed by crappy CGI, whereas all normal people over 15 cringe at it and find that it looks embarrassingly bad.
People would prefer films that has CGI and yet stayed true to the source material than films that are bad yet they didn't do justice to the source like this movie.
@TheEternalRider All normal people over 15 would much rather watch Captain America (1990) over the 2011 version.
The 1990 film looked way more realistic, it was a more mature film, it didn't or rarely contained any crappy one-liners, and the casting for Captain America/Steve Rogers was good.
The 2006 film looked totally unrealistic (due to stupid CGI), it was more aimed at kids under 12, it contained too many awful one-liners and the casting for Captain America/Steve Rogers was terrible
If you think this 1990 film is mature, then tell me why Marvel didn't have more movies in the 90s? In fact, they' were an embarrassment. When co-creator Jack Kirby watched this movie, he gave it a "royal two thumbs down".
And hey, almost all of the Captain America comics were aimed to all ages, not just for children. The reason you say that is you're more on dark-themed comic books, right?
@TheEternalRider Yes The First Avenger was more accurate to the comics, but sadly thats the only thing that was good about it.
The film was severely damaged because of the terrible and totally unrealistic CGI, the terrible casting for Steve Rogers/Captain America, and because it was only aimed at little children.
If I was a kid I probably would have liked it, but since i am over 18 i found it to be a crap and stupid looking film. All other people I know thought the same as well.
You don't have to be a kid in order to enjoy this movie. It's for all ages. In fact, The First Avenger is just as colorful as the Simon-Kirby comics. You want something mature? Not the 1990 movie which it was panned by Kirby himself. A movie based from the "Death of Captain America" storyline would make sense. And no, the 1990 movie is more like a B-movie than a mature one.
You may disagree since it's your opinion. But your BIAS is showing.
And I can even call this movie "stupid" due to the fact that Cannon Films never do justice on Cap other than the Fantastic Four one. And the "all other people" you know are nothing but belonging to the minority.
If you cannot see that The First Avenger was a very childish movie then I guess you must either be a child yourself or somebody who seriously needs to grow up.
The stupid and totally unrealistic CGI is something that only little kids get wowed by, the film could not be taken seriously and the stupid one-liners in the film are only aimed at children and only get laughs out of such people.
It was a crappy kids film and any normal adult will agree.
I can never see that as a fact because it's from someone who doesn't read comic books or doesn't see things that work. The 1990 movie took away the spirit of the Kirby-Simon comics by giving such inconsistencies.
The reason you're saying that The First Avenger is a "crappy kids film" because of your "normal adult" BS. In fact, you never see things and you're messing with a comic book fan. THAT's a fact.
The new Captain America movie totally pulled off the suitable for all audience rating. It's not too dark and not too kiddish, and as for 'awful CGI.', I found the scene where Captain America and Red Skull were standing on both side of the separating bridge as the background burst in fire was well done.
Yours is no fact and most normal adults will never agree with you since yours is opinion and never saw the movie fully. So troll harder on your 'normal adult' nonsense.
@TheEternalRider You can try all you want but you cannot change the fact that The First Avenger was a terrible kiddies film. I've never came across one adult who liked it and I doubt you have either.
If you are over the age of 15 then I strongly suggest that you grow up. If however you are under that age, then perhaps when you grow up you will see for yourself that The First Avenger was a shit kids films
Meh. Yours is more like an opinion than fact because you never realized that people have different tastes and you just belong to the minority; you just have a shit taste, that's why. And it's your personal taste.
You should be the one who should grow up, kid. I'm an adult but I just want to convey my points. And I have knowledge about comic books heroes and even comic book movies and other formulas for superhero movies. "Mature" comic book movies are always like magic, not formulas.
Captain America is one of those superheroes who has an origin that is a bit tricky to pull off, not to mention his Star-Spangled Banner costume, but Marvel totally got it right. Green Lantern, who has a much-easier origin by comparison to adapt, tanked ironically.
Unlike this 1990 movie, The First Avenger gave justice to Simon and Kirby's creation, despite of the CGI. Plus the action scenes are memorable and closer in spirit of the original Kirby-Simon comics unlike in the 1990 movie which is nothing but a cheap joke. And don't get me on the Italian Red Skull.
And why the hell would they give Cap a crappy rubber suit that tore during the fight scenes a opposed to the original Simon-Kirby chainmail suit, except that now the new movie is picture perfect either as far as they go to the Ultimate costume. I think it's more of a question of what has translated perfectly in four color print and animation for 70 years may not just not to come across in live action as the 1990 movie sadly shows.
The First Avenger gained the impression of co-creator Joe Simon. In fact, he mentioned the film in his autobiography "Joe Simon: My LIfe in Comics". He said:
'Now Captain America is back in a major motion picture-something Jack and I have never imagined 70 years ago. The Red Skull, w/ his origins in a hot fugde sundae, will be the villain. I've been in touch w/ the movie producers, & have watched my character in a commercial during the Super Bowl. I'm impressed on what I've seen."
damm red skull is just what the devil is actually by this days just politics controling all around the fucking world and a hero from the goberment to save our days jajajaja funy comparation or ironic but true, certainly it is a good hero movie cant wait for the rest of the movies

We should all keep in mind that there is a very large time difference in the modern 2011 movie and this one. They didnt have the same CGI or actors. I like them both. They both are Marvel, and both incredably timely.

All this talk about " meh this is how Cap should look" and " this red skull looks better" amn those folks can just suck it.
I loved the latest Captain America movie.
He did wear the Old spandex suit. mayby got even more screen time in the movie waring that suit than his actual battle suit.
It just doesnt work with todays movie's ( hence the lack of the yellow wolverine costume, same issue ) And Hugo Weaving is a briljant actor!
Beside's he might change outfir again in the Avengers.

Captain America 2011 is the best hands down. Had heart, great characters we grew to care for even if you werent a comic book fan, great script, action, direction. Chris Evans is the best Steve Rogers and you can't remake the romance between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in that movie. 2011 ftw.
davedirector7 2 months ago 2
@davedirector7 Agree, the 2011 movie is great. The 1990...well I didn't see it but since it is an Albert Pyun movie you can't expect much, just check the director's career and you'll see what im talking about.
So is true, Captain America 2011 FTW

The bad thing about the crap rubber suit is that it was easily torn during a fight scene; I'll go for the original chainmail suit instead. But The First Avenger used the Ultimate route, which is a nice catch.

Sotaris 4 months ago
@Sotaris If anything, times have actually gotten far worse for film, not better. Films nowadays are mostly ruined by totally unrealistic and stupid looking CGI.
Only children get wowed by crappy CGI, whereas all normal people over 15 cringe at it and find that it looks embarrassingly bad.
NewcastleEmperor 4 months ago 3

NewcastleEmperor 4 months ago
Here's why The First Avenger is better:
If you think this 1990 film is mature, then tell me why Marvel didn't have more movies in the 90s? In fact, they' were an embarrassment. When co-creator Jack Kirby watched this movie, he gave it a "royal two thumbs down".
And hey, almost all of the Captain America comics were aimed to all ages, not just for children. The reason you say that is you're more on dark-themed comic books, right?
TheEternalRider 4 months ago

TheEternalRider 4 months ago
And I can even call this movie "stupid" due to the fact that Cannon Films never do justice on Cap other than the Fantastic Four one. And the "all other people" you know are nothing but belonging to the minority.
I sense BIAS here.
TheEternalRider 4 months ago
@TheEternalRider Its not bias fella its a fact
If you cannot see that The First Avenger was a very childish movie then I guess you must either be a child yourself or somebody who seriously needs to grow up.
The stupid and totally unrealistic CGI is something that only little kids get wowed by, the film could not be taken seriously and the stupid one-liners in the film are only aimed at children and only get laughs out of such people.
It was a crappy kids film and any normal adult will agree.
NewcastleEmperor 4 months ago

NewcastleEmperor 4 months ago
TheEternalRider 4 months ago
Captain America is one of those superheroes who has an origin that is a bit tricky to pull off, not to mention his Star-Spangled Banner costume, but Marvel totally got it right. Green Lantern, who has a much-easier origin by comparison to adapt, tanked ironically.
TheEternalRider 4 months ago
@TheEternalRider Well, the use of CGI in the new Cap film wasn't as overabused compared to other films I've seen in recent years.
sparrowsanzo 4 months ago
Unlike this 1990 movie, The First Avenger gave justice to Simon and Kirby's creation, despite of the CGI. Plus the action scenes are memorable and closer in spirit of the original Kirby-Simon comics unlike in the 1990 movie which is nothing but a cheap joke. And don't get me on the Italian Red Skull.
TheEternalRider 4 months ago

TheEternalRider 4 months ago
And why the hell would they give Cap a crappy rubber suit that tore during the fight scenes a opposed to the original Simon-Kirby chainmail suit, except that now the new movie is picture perfect either as far as they go to the Ultimate costume. I think it's more of a question of what has translated perfectly in four color print and animation for 70 years may not just not to come across in live action as the 1990 movie sadly shows.
TheEternalRider 4 months ago
The First Avenger gained the impression of co-creator Joe Simon. In fact, he mentioned the film in his autobiography "Joe Simon: My LIfe in Comics". He said:
'Now Captain America is back in a major motion picture-something Jack and I have never imagined 70 years ago. The Red Skull, w/ his origins in a hot fugde sundae, will be the villain. I've been in touch w/ the movie producers, & have watched my character in a commercial during the Super Bowl. I'm impressed on what I've seen."
