  • i dont know what just happened but it was very interesting...

  • REALLY ENJOY THE VIDS. I AM FACED WITH A CHALLENGE. I WANT A PHOTO ON A MIRROR. HOW MAYBE DO YOU FIGURE I MIGHT ACHEIVE THIS WITH OUT SCREENPRINTING OR ETCHING. CAN EMULSION FROM A PHOTO BE TRANSFERED TO MIRROR?

  • @qtele - There are a couple possible solutions to your challenge. And with about 400 characters to respond in this space, the best recommendation is to call Golden's FREE technical support: 800-959-6543, 607-847-6154 outside the US, you can also e-mail them. Infor mation is available on our site.

  • @qtele when you figure it out ,Please let me know...this video process seems too involved

  • Why not just glue down the original image instead of going through all that trouble? :)

  • @MrsMom100 - the finished project is a clear acrylic gel with your image on it... as demonstrated near the end of the video, you can paint the back of that (gives you a hand-tinted photo look, but easier) or place the gel with the image over colors or textures in a larger work. You can't do any of those things with paper. Also, by removing the paper, you've removed paper from your artwork... so you don't have to worry about wrinkles or tearing, as you might with paper.

  • @GoldenPaints Does a colour laser printed image work as wel? instead of B/w?

  • @tarepanday I have not tried a color laser print, but I would anticipate it working similarly, if only taking a bit longer due to the layers of toner (four vs. just one for a B/W laser).

  • @tarepanday

It totally works. I use a slightly different method than the one described in the video but there are no worries with color laser prints, Golden works like a charm.

  • @1TheBlackWolf1 you might be able to use it very thinly, but bear in mind matte products are inheriently cloudy and thicker films will obscure the image. So, yes, the process will work but you'll have to contend with clarity issues. If you do a "direct transfer" then it's no problem because it's under the image. (Same goes for @kenng329 - Molding Paste is very opaque and not useable for indirect transfers. - Mike Townsend - GOLDEN Technical Support.

  • does this work with high solid gel (matte) too?

  • would modeling paste work

  • PLEASE HELP! i cant seem to get this right... the paper always wrinkles!!

ive tried everything... taping down the image before putting on the GAC 500, flattening the image before applying the gel medium, only applying gel medium... the paper always wrinkles from the GAC 500 and/or the gel which makes applying the gel evenly impossible. what am i doing wrong? thanks!

  • @26ashleyn Assuming you are using the same typical laser copy paper as in the video, then it might simply be that you are expecting things to be too perfectly flat throughout the process. Even in our example, there is definitely some wrinkling after applying GAC 500 and again when using the Gel. However, once you get the paper removed, you can then glue the image down to another surface, smoothing it out again to be flat. Give us a call if you need more info and we would be happy to help!

  • @26ashleyn your suppose to drink a soda before the process begun thats something they failed to mention in the vid...The guy in the vid drinks 2 liters all day so he probley forgot to mention.

  • Oh do I wish I worked at Golden labs! The scientific innovation & the "playing" with acrylic polymer emulsion (sigh). That said, there are fireworks going on in my brain with this GAC 500. It's a step a lot of us mixed-media artists overlook. I understand its advantage. With its thin layer, there's less of a chance for one to rub the transfer too hard & damage the image. GAC 500 means less crying :)

  • @ginaleekim Thanks!! You wouldn't be the first person who longed to work here - and if you are ever i the area definitely let us know and we will take you on a tour. In the meantime, just be careful with the fireworks - there is always the chance that a stray spark might start a blaze you can't control : )

  • Thanks for showing and telling the products used. I had no idea what the GAC 500 was for!

  • You are SO welcome! GAC 500 is a great medium that is often overlooked. It happens to be the hardest polymer we have that can still be used on flexible supports, so you get lower tack and more durability as well. And if you have any other questions, visit our website or give us a call. We love to share what we know!

  • Thanks guys. This is the best demo for acrylic transfers I've seen so far on Youtube. Also love how you added the colour. Keep 'em coming!

  • Thank you!! We really appreciate the feedback and support. And once the new year comes around, we will definitely be making more videos. Also, if you ever have suggestions for topics you would like us to do, let us know.

    Thanks!

  • I used to do this with magazine photos and acrylic medium back in the 70's with my students...it worked great then and was fun. I like the idea of adding the color.

  • Thanks - we appreciate that you stopped by and for sharing your feedback. Also couldn't help but notice that you are centered fairly close by, in Syracuse, which is just a little over an hour from New Berlin. If you are ever interested, come down for a tour and a visit!

  • I have been there many times over the last 27 years- I'm a customer, and a fan. And I love that you are YouTube-check out my plug for you on caliclips channel- "Water Paintings by Kit Parker Cali with music by Jerry Cali"

  • Another fun video. Informative, yet entertaining. Golden's Guy keep making the vids! I hope you do one on that darn crackle paste. I ether get no crackle or it crackles off. Grrrr!

  • Thanks Suzet! The video team definitely tries to strike that delicate balance between fun and educational, so its great to know when they hit that mark. Also, we will definitely consider doing one on Crackle Paste....so thanks for the idea. And don't hesitate to ask for others if you think there is something we should cover.

    Best regards....The Golden Team
