It may predominantly be gobshite, but there's nothing making anyone watch it. If that was how TV media was then I think it'd be fair to get more annoyed about it. Besides, who knows; some day in 100 years time there may be social historians trawling through youtube archives to try ascertain what were the dominant discourses in our particular era? A more democratic glimpse at the lives of the average person, considering history and news has typically been produced by more dominant classes...

The Internet is like a huge pile of filth and idiocy. Even with a millions of videos being created weekly, it's a tiny fraction of those videos that are actually any good. Occasionally one gem will rise to the top and get millions of views, but you only find the good stuff because there's loads of people looking on your behalf. Brooker (and Paxman) hit the nail on the head with the viral video vs. TV stuff.
