I ended up upgrading to the 350 as well. It just arrived at my mom's house (I had it sent there, as I'm going on a long visit to her soon, and thought it might not arrive in time). I can't wait to try it out! Also, I've had the 505 for two years, and while I like the size, I really didn't want to have two of the same sized readers.
The 350 is $100-130, the 650 is at least double right now. Enough said!
The small size can also be an advantage, it fits in a polo shirt pocket! I have read that the 650 has several new features, including being able to resize PDF's so well that you may not even have to convert them! (Using Calibur, the excellent open-source program for ebooks).
@TossTheTV I usually only read .epubs. PDFs are a pain in the ass on e-ink devices.
That being said, I'm really liking the Nook Touch, its retail price is cheaper than the PRS350 and it's got tons more font and formatting settings (which I'd need PRS+ for on the Sony reader). A shame that Sony's very flaky when it comes to this, I always liked the build quality of their products.
The only thing that should matter for ebook readers is how easy they are on your eyes. The tablet/color led stuff is pointless, you might as well buy a computer or smart-phone. And personally I can't stand wi-fi, it's bad for your health, which is why I prefer the old Sony models.
@TossTheTV I never even mentioned colors or wifi. :p
I agree, though. I just want a simple book reader. I'm desperately trying to find a PRS650 on the cheap, but I think it's more likely I'll just get the Nook Touch.
@ThePhatIndian If you're in N America the Kobo is now only $60 on Borders*com (scroll down to where it says Hot Deals) because they might be going out of business. But they're back-ordered 2 weeks. Kobo is similar to the Kindle, but without keyboard. Unlike the Kindle it supports ePub. Although if you're buying books, Amazon obviously has the best selection.
@TossTheTV They aren't going out of business, they're clearing old stock. They recently released the Kobo Touch, a pretty good device in its own right.
I got the 350 it's awesome! Big improvement over 300. It's on sale for $100 & free shipping on borders.com after you add it to cart. (search: Sony Pocket eReader 2010). Borders isn't going out of business but a few in the area just closed down.. so it's struggling
Thanks for the video. The comparison was great, but I don't think that you mentioned that the 350 has a higher DPI than the 650. I am curious as to how much sharper the 350's screen is - I've read that it actually quite a bit sharper.
@capricapaprica Good point exactly why I went for the PRS350. The PRS 650 should of had a higher DPI such as 600 x 1024. In comparison to the PRS 900 does the 650 look less sharper. The PRS 900 is 600 x 1024 from memory. Also the reviews never say anthing bad about reader, say the PRS 900 for example, until a new model comes out (PRS 950), then say start telling you about the PRS 900s faults. The best reviews are from forum members and people like yourself.
@bcumyns It is even worse that he sounds Canadian as well and this just emphasizes the brain melting tone of his voice? I cannot stand that modern young people have no speaking ability and seem to have no ability for independent thought? I hope I never hear his voice again or I may have to jump from a hot air balloon?
@capricapaprica nothing is wrong with sounding Canadian, it is just that the kids voice is annoying to begin with and the accent just increases the pain in the brain. lol.
By the way, I did buy the PRS-350 and love it. The only difference between the two is the mp3 player and the size and I decided that pocket sized was perfect for my needs. And it does fit in my shirt pocket.
You forgot to mention that they are the same resolution so the 350 has a higher PPI. Personally I find the 167 PPI unacceptable compared to the 200 PPI.
really enjoyed the video, liked the side by side comparison. I'm wondering do you have any trouble with the SD cards or the Stick two duo popping out while using it?
You may want to iron the sheet you use for the background to give the video a more professional look
thanks for the video, it was very easy to understand everything you where trying to convey and you mentioned a lot of things I wouldn't have known how to do! ty!
PRS-350 doesn't come in black.

@capricapaprica How you liking the 350? I'm still on my 505 (still one of the best).
I'm confused between the 350 and 650. I'm not sure if I will like having a smaller (yet sharper, on the plus side) screen.

So is every statement a question? I notice that your voice rises at the end of half the sentences? Why so many questions?

Should I buy the "premium cover" for the 650? Will I be using it? Because it's kinda expensive at $40
