I agree there has to be some degree of standard treatment they have to conform to when it comes to handling live stocks but that wasn't the point of the argument. I would also never eat a dog but I don't condemn the practice as a taboo. I have a friend who grew up on a farm outside of Ontario, and she used to name her family's dairy cows. They were pets to her like her dogs were. While there are numerous violations to the laws, they are just that, people breaking humane laws. In Asia, cruelty is the rule. Gun possession, gumbling and eating dog meat are only wrong if they are outlawed. That's why PETA SIRUS HUMANE SOC. pressured our senators to criminalize dog eating. Since most of us don't have a voice with no internet access they succeeded. But the people are awaken now to resist and overturn the ban. The north has defied that law openly.

@laminateZOO I was not defending the mistreatment but the consumption of dogs. I agree there has to be some degree of standard treatment they have to conform to when it comes to handling live stocks but that wasn't the point of the argument. I would also never eat a dog but I don't condemn the practice as a taboo. Of course there are people who hate the practice in China due to progression and changes in the culture but then again it's a a matter of influential conformity.

I can name several western countries that eat dogs...even in the States and Canada people are using dogs as food, specifically in Hawaii and Edmonton. Even long before the pilgrimage of the Mayflower Native Americans have been consuming dog meat as part of their diet. I don't eat dogs but I think it is hypocritical to condemn the practice. They shove them on top of each other in cages, many die of suffocation or dehydration, then their front legs are tied behind their backs, dislocating them, on to beating them or boiling them alive. Maybe you should look at one of the many video's on you tube...it's extremely disturbing. There is no need for all the torturing, to them it is supposed to make the meat more tender.

They tie the front legs behind their backs dislocating them, on to beating them, boiling them alive and so many other ways. They are now stealing family pets..seen a jack russell on one of the videos. All I am saying is that, do they really have to inflict so much pain and fear, just to make the meat more tender.
