  • that cat is soo cute :)

  • there is no need crying because am keep on trying beck am popeye the sailor man...

  • 5:19 Popeye and the wooden boards shrink. In the original black and white cartoon, the entire scene zooms out. This is a result from colorization. There are a lot more of these kinds of errors in other cartoons. I just read about this particular mistake online yesterday, and this episode just so happened to be on T.V. yesterday, too.

  • i always love his random rants XD

  • When they started changing popeye from the forties, I lost interest. He just wasn't the same literally. Even now I only want the earliest, not the so-called modern. Some things are better off in their original form.

  • I love the sawing sound.

  • i request the cartoons hello how am i and protek the weakerist. anybody have any of these cartoons? i would be gladly grateful

  • This is one of my favorite episodes. :-)

  • These were drawn my American Animators, before being shipped over to Korea to be traced over in colour

  • This is what American cartoon looked like i agree with you 100%

  • Classic Popeye mumbling under his breath at 4:17 (while shuffling shingles like a card deck): "I think i'll play meself a game of solitare shingle-handed here".

  • These colorizations were actually reprinted cels from the actual black and white cartoons to be recolored. These "color" each had a budget of $10,000 or $11,000

  • popeye arquitecto

  • These Popeye cartoons were "recolored" in Korea in the late '80s (the same way the Warner Bros. black & white "Looney Tunes" were in the early '70s), by tracing over the original film frames- and a sloppy job at that.

  • Not just Korea, but also Taiwan did a few of these Popeye recolors (the studio who did these recolors in Taiwan also did the Sonic cartoons).

  • I used to watch it since I was a kid when it was on TV, and it was horrible. They did a terrible job redrawn and retraced the original black & white cartoons to make it a lot horrible in color. Warner Bros. redrawn the Porky Pig shorts from the 1930's when it was remade in color in the 1970's, it looked so bad. I used to watched it since I was a kid, but this one needs to go out in the trash.

"The House Builder Upper" is also available in the original B&W version.

  • You think the Original version is better? Well, you can watch a B&W version, then the coloured version of that episode, you can see that they're exactly the same animation, except for the colours.

  • Not really. I've looked at all the colorized versions and the black and white versions, and there is a BIG difference.

  • nvm that, I just noticed Popeye just shrunk at around 5:19, but it didn't happen in the B&W version...

  • Holy christ, weird.

  • Great cartoon, but these awful colorizations have GOT to go. Because they're not just colorizations, as some of you know, but actual retracings. Although computer coloring was possible when these remakes were made in the 80s, for some reason they used the same error-prone retracing process used twenty years earlier on B/W Looney Tunes. That's why the animation is so glitchy and choppy--the real film moves MUCH more smoothly.

  • Wimpy's unintentional undoing of Popeye's hard work is worth a few laughs.

  • I like the saw sound effect, sounds like somone tring to talk like 'Donald Duck.' :-)

  • I hate colorization

but it's great to have these classic Fleischer Popeyes.

  • legend

  • Well, blow me down! It's another Fleischer Popeye Cartoon in color!

  • On Cartoon Networks, Boomerang, they all are in color.
