  • I agree with auxilator1975...that is not called a hook grip. It is called a mixed grip. A hook grip you would use for something like a clean and jerk. And for that amount of weight, you really don't even need to use a mixed grip! Stop trying to be flashy, and just use good form. Its amazing how many people post tutorial-like videos who use terrible form and have only half a clue what they are talking about. its dangerous!!! If you don't have the terminology correct, certainly do NOT post videos.

  • @auxhilirator1975 so hold breath in and let it out when lift is complete once standing straight? also do hands have to be one open palm one rear facing? Or can the both.be rear facing?? Thanks!

  • use the one-hand pronated grip only on maximum weights

never breath out while pulling the bar up, keep a deep breath inside your chest all the way

you have mixed-grip and hookgrip mixed up, hookgrip is when your thumb is under the indexfinger and middelfinger while holding the bar.

  • Monday do chest and arms ..Wednesday do squats, deadlift, legs and shrugs,,Friday do back and shoulders,,,,

  • Esssssssttttt

  • Thank you.

  • about 1/4 of the votes are dislikes? lol.

  • Socially Awkward Penguin Fitness Trainer

  • Awesome!

  • why did this video turn me on

  • Would it be best to use this exercise on back or leg days, I've been bodybuilding 5 years , and must admit never done them. But thinking about adding them in now, also I've heard it's best to do them every other week? Is this true.

  • @Richthor1889 bro, im going to be using it on back, but let me explain, I might just be weird but on back day i don't feel sore or anything after, now that might just be me, but i feel deadlifts bigtime, like a good sore feeling not bad at all, and on leg day i get a good amount of soreness from the exercises im alrdy doing so yeah imo back day. If u listen to the twinmuscleworkout they say deadlifts are overrated, they are rite on everything except that.

  • For a moment i thought you couldnt lift it xD

  • That's not a hook grip, it's a mixed grip, and isn't necessary. It's mostly used for very heavy deadlifts because the weight can't roll out of your grip, like it tends to with an over- or underhand grip. Hook grip is when the bar rests in your grip, you close your thumb around it and your fingers then close around the bar and thumb.

  • Good video

    What's the 1st best exercise?

  • 1:33+ "Yeah I've broke my back..."

  • Comment removed

  • Almost all muscles are trained by doin this exercise. The hamstrings, glute muscles are working the hardest but the upper back muscled working too

  • what muscles are trained in a deadlift? exept lower back

  • You can check out my video on my channel aswell 500lbs x5. I did that a couple months ago i was 18 years old. I plan on repping 600 for 5, before next year

  • @losingthelostone well I'm like 5 10 and currently 158 lbs. id like to be right around 150, like a 32' inch waist. i wish i could just lose that 8 from my lower torso. i don't care about muscle too much, i just want less body fat. I've noticed my arms and legs are much more toned. i do 1 hour on the elliptical mon/tue, thu/fri. every 10 mins i increase the resistance. i also want to try swimming, to stretch out my whole body i feel cringe-y and not limber sometimes, bad posture

  • 1. squats 2. deadlifts 3. bench press? i should try to do those 3 exercises throughout the week. all i do is cardio

  • @vichkovski

You don't want to do too much cardio if you're tryin' to build muscle, it counteracts. Try cardio 3 times a week and weights 4 to 5. It's also good to switch up your routine weekly, keep your muscles guessing and they'll grow faster.

  • so whats the best way to b a personal trainer really?? cause you can get them online in a matter of months or go to school which i askd n they said for me to major in exercise science. what do u all think???

  • what does he keep looking at?

  • Best full lower body exercise is safely doing back or front squats. Lower back likely to become damaged with dead lifts.

  • He's like a sim at the end XD

  • Dead lifts screw your lower back period. The lower back muscles are for

stabilization, not for heavy lifting. No physio or chiropractor I've

spoken to says you should do dead lifts or heavy squats.

They may build strength and size, but long term will damage

lower back and probably compress discs. Not worth it IMO.

  • Very good demonstration. Though I would personally recommend start doing this with your palms facing you. This improves your grip over time. When you increase weight so that you can't anymore hold grip, then do as the guy on the video suggests. After that use straps...If necessary.

Why I recommend this is because you'll be using same gripping strenght for example in your dumbell excercises and you can't use straps there. So, build grip here and apply it later on other excercises as well.

  • I'm wearing the same pants as him.

  • 1 benchpress 2 deadlift 3 squats

  • Squats are the best

  • i think you forgot the shoulder movement, you push your chest out and pull your shoulders back, that is how Ive been taught.

  • the best exercise doesnt exist. thats why he says second best . lol

  • half the population of deadlifters damage their backs. thats y its called the dead lift

  • oatz and squatz

  • alternating grip not hook ;)

  • It would've been great if he doubled over and collapsed screaming in pain on the 1st rep.

  • i want to decrease my butt size can it cause decrease butt size

  • @03367164170 Eat less fat & sugar :P

  • its the best exercise, it hits the calves, torso, lower core, shoulder and traps

  • I know him...

    Adam!..

    He is awesome....

  • Wow, he seems so freaking nervous :o

  • thank you for the demo

  • pssssssss psssssss

  • This guy is confused cuz he's wondering if he got enough protein... nervous cuz he let a protein fart out and worries if someone will smell it......watch the video again after reading this and see if it's TRUE !!

  • Squats are Deadlifts are the best strength building core exercises that release growth hormones in the body because they target so many large muscles. I have just recently started deadlifting and I have been missing out. There are many other core exercises that are important to muscle gains as well. The shoulder press, incline and flat bench/dumbbell press, lat pulldowns, etc all are great for targeting big muscles.

  • @MrZeek83 The number one exercise is probably bench press.

  • @youngmacho5

    Yeah, for the pretty-boy types.

  • If this is the 2nd best exercise, in your opinion, what's your number 1 exercise?

  • @MrZeek83 squat of course

  • @MrZeek83 Squats brah.

  • @MrZeek83 probably the squat

  • @MrZeek83

    Squat? haha

  • @MrZeek83 squats! what else?

  • @MrZeek83 Them curls that everybody been doing in the gym.

  • @MrZeek83 squats

  • @MrZeek83 squats

  • @MrZeek83 probably the squats like every other fucking person in the gym

  • @MrZeek83

  • @MrZeek83 Pull Ups.

  • @MrZeek83 bicep curls :P

  • @MrZeek83 Squats

  • @MrZeek83

    Squats obviously.

  • @MrZeek83 simple double handed jacking off

  • @MrZeek83 Squat

  • @MrZeek83 definetely must bee deep squat

  • @MrZeek83 deadlift, squat and bench press are the "golden" exercises

  • @MrZeek83 clearly the squat...

  • @MrZeek83 1st: Squats, 3rd: Bench Press

  • @MrZeek83 squat, squat, squat and squat

  • lol, look at the top comment and click on that "andyharglesis" guy and have a look at his comments, i guarantee you will have a good laugh.

  • Why would you write a comment to your self druid595 makes no sense

  • so do you breathe in as you go up and breathe out as you go down?

  • My coach told me to do these but he never explained the importance of turning your hands in a diffrent grip, so I have two questions:

    1. What is the importance of turning your hands?

    and

    2. Do I do 10 reps and then switch positions for another 10 reps?

    Please respond

  • @UndertakerU2ber if you mean turn one hand pointing forward and the other backwards?

Its because you lock yourself in a position so you pull straight up and makes your grip stronger. (how its works for me)

  • So my deadlift technique is wrong?? Cause i do sumo stance.

  • This guy looks very nervous and confused, like everyone on expert village.

  • @Kyr4x lol they really do look like that

  • @Kyr4x

ive noticed that too, there always nervous, like the carlton guy

  • @Kyr4x

    Oh snap.

  • @Kyr4x Yeah he does lol

  • @Kyr4x Actually it looks like he'd rather be anywhere else than in that gym doing this video.

  • lol what are u listening too

  • I tried explaining to one retard that you have to touch the floor each rep; but he just kept doing his little twist on the Romanian deadlift.

  • Why is this so disliked? I don't think I can actually find a video on youtube where someone disagrees on the technique of a dead lift or squats? I would Like to know the Proper technique lol.

  • @GBEHACH4 i know. I'm also looking for the proper technique. But there seems to be no one way. It's really difficult to learn when a lot of testosterone driven men (some adolescents) want everybody else to be wrong.

  • I don't have a barbell, can I do it with 2 dumbells?

  • @theif519 yes

  • @theif519 Yes you can, but it won't be nearly as effective. With heavy dumbells you only train your arms rather than your whole body.

  • Tip 1: Don't wear running shoes when weight lifting.

  • nice background music....NOT!!!

  • my lower back kills after this.. normal?

  • @LawClash As long as it's low enough on your back and the pain isn't radiating from your spine, should be all right.

  • @LawClash squeeze your abbs every time you do a rep

  • was he taking a piss during that? lmao

  • @10PackShak Yes, what else would he be doing?

  • @mesquitadrox lmao

  • @mesquitadrox lol

  • hey guys, I couldn't find much on the internet about deadlifting cows or horses anyone know how? and no this is real talk, no joking about, thanks

  • @shaf1ke Um, lol? You can't deadlift something that's already off the ground by several feet.

  • @WTSMiniEvenniaLOL Arnold suggests once or twice a week, at most.

  • @SpamDelendaRex I agree...I once tried so hard rowing the T-bar that I thought I crapped myself.

  • What is the first best exercise ever then?

  • @SpamDelendaRex ok then, have fun looking like a scrawny bitch

  • thanks. i've watched some other videos and they've been confusing! :)

  • i have 1 quest. pls only ppl who know to answer... when i lift it does my back have to be at 90 % angle or more ? i ll love if u explain your answer

  • Comment removed

  • @theceylan93 dont worry about the specific angle. just keep ur back from bending. it helps if u concentrate on sticking ur butt & chest out

  • @kv7otieno1 thx very much

  • @kv7otieno1 great way to explain the form... always afraid of doing these exercises wrong and injuring myself - but with your instruction I can feel when I'm doing it right :)

  • @rmvnucks i can totally relate to that feeling, & i am happy i could help:)

  • The sssssssss makes you feel like terminator.

  • no good. i havnt got the long bar. only a can of tin of beans.

  • what's the FIRST best lift?

  • @kamikazefighta Bench press.

  • @kamikazefighta Power Clean or any variation of the clean.

  • Squats and Deadlifts are like girls next door type women and supermodel type women, some people prefer the former, some people prefer the latter. But you'd have to be a fool to not do them both, given the option.

  • Comment removed

  • @TH3RUTILUSDRACO hahaha yeh, *tssssss* *chk* *tssssss* *chk*

  • That is not a hook grip. Google it.

  • Fuck ab crunches, squat ftw.

  • you need to find out what a hook grip is friend

  • QUESTION HERE PLEASE ANSWER, can the deadlift be done with both hands behind the bar? Then both hands in front of the bar, Im thinking of doing it like that, that way I emphasize it more.

Or should it just be done with one hand behind and the other in front.

  • @acidee100 you have one behind and one in front for stability. if you want to have both hands in one direction i would recommend using a lighter weight until you get the feel for it. and be sure to keep proper form

  • @famoushot21

Aw thanx man, really appreaciate it thank you.

  • dead lifts in my opionion are the best, im starting off with just 25 pounds and boy do i feel it! gotta learn the proper form though

  • keep pressing 3 looks like his wanking LOL

  • psssssh garbage

  • if ur a football player, squats are number 1.

  • I'm 13, 203lbs of SOLID, DRUG-FREE STRENGTH and I can straight bar deadlift 700lbs RAW and STRICT with DIAMOND perfect form, no straps, no suit, NOTHING!

  • @AndyHarglesis unlucky. you've probably closed your growth plate. sorry to say but you're not gonna get any taller, and your shoulders won't get any broader than they are now. think before you start waving your e-penis around.

  • @Druid595 hahaha, i like tht 1, very good, lol

  • @Druid595 LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL your a fucking retard arent you ? It has been proven that bodybuilding / deadlifting DOES NOT have a nagative effect on your growth or growth plates etc on a young age its actually good for you if done correct, at least get your shit straight and read a few books or watch a few documentairy's before you try to talk about shit that you clearly know nothing about. Just stick to playing games m'kay ?

  • @KaizokuMaiku Are you for real? I've probably been body building a lot longer than you kid, you're probably some sixteen year old who wants to get some hole and thinks he knows about body building. Why do you think you need to be 16 and over to legally purchase supplements? Its because weight training is not recommended for people under the age of sixteen because they are still developing their muscles to suit their frame.

  • @Druid595 Im 23 and have been bodybuilding and powerlifting since I was 14 years old im 1,92cm high and weigh 115 kilo's with a 7,5% BF rate atm ( messured last week so ofc it could be slightly difrent now ).

Buying suplements is one thing, but it has been scientifcly proven in study's that it does not effect your growth and if done correct its actually benefical for teens to train. Donno what you have been doing seeing your some experianced bodybuilder and all but its not keeping of study's :S

  • @Druid595 keeping track ***

  • @Druid595 Even when I was sixteen I was at a gym and I was desperate to get huge, and a guy there sold anabolic steroids, and when I tried to buy some off him he said that I should wait till I'm at least 18, ideally 21 because young adolenscent bodies aren't capable of intence muscle gaining when they are still developing muscles. And I'd love some proof to these "science studies" which you speak of which "does not have a nagative effect".

  • Comment removed

  • @AndyHarglesis lmao fail

  • @AndyHarglesis COOL MAN!!!!!!!

  • @AndyHarglesis I'm 20, 140lbs of FLAPPY, DRUG-FREE WEAKNESS and I can straight bar deadlift 100lbs COOKED AND LAX with PLAY-DO pathetic form, all straps, suit, EVERYTHING!

  • @AndyHarglesis trololo

  • @AndyHarglesis No offense but i find that to be unhealthy for a 13 yeard old 0__o

    how tall ar you?

  • @TheDeLaKore 6'4".

  • @TheDeLaKore I'm all muscle as well, my lost friend! :P

  • LOL ok you are 6'4 which is understandable...cause if you was the average height for a 13 year old your life would have been screwed ....that kind of weight would have WAY too much for the average size of 13 year old, especially if you arent taking care of your body....but good luck and keep it up!

  • @TheDeLaKore You can't be serious.. That kid is full of shit lmfao. Good Andy Harglesis. That is Mr. im13andcut. Do you seriously believe him? Lol. 2nd off. It doesn't matter how tall you are to lift a certain amount of weight.

  • @RthereNEusernames I actually dont...i was being sarcastic...and i never said anything about height and LIFTING weight...my focus was on knowing how tall he was compared to HIS weight...and yes that makes a difference

  • @TheDeLaKore No. You can be a 4'10" tall person, weighing 203lbs.. It doesn't matter lol.

  • @AndyHarglesis lol cause in ur picture you look about 110 pounds jokes kids these days

  • @1randybobandy That's the next up only. :D

  • love the music :p

  • you shouldn't be wearing shoes! they are designed to push your feet forward and you want to stay on your heels for deadlift and squats!

  • Thank you!

  • FYI you rap your dominant hand over the bar using the lock or hook grip

  • @brawly666 FYI it's wrap not rap

  • @brawly666 Yes, you have to rap on the bar at least three times, until Arnold answers.

  • Can you do proper squats without a squat machine or a spotter? (trying to build muscle properly and as fast as possible)

  • @whyeff21 You won't get help from a machine, You don't "need" a spotter for squats either. Work on your form. Look at Rippetoe's squat stuff.
