I agree with auxilator1975...that is not called a hook grip. It is called a mixed grip. A hook grip you would use for something like a clean and jerk. And for that amount of weight, you really don't even need to use a mixed grip! Stop trying to be flashy, and just use good form. Its amazing how many people post tutorial-like videos who use terrible form and have only half a clue what they are talking about. its dangerous!!! If you don't have the terminology correct, certainly do NOT post videos.
@auxhilirator1975 so hold breath in and let it out when lift is complete once standing straight? also do hands have to be one open palm one rear facing? Or can the both.be rear facing?? Thanks!
Good job and all but can I just ask a question what is the big deal with deadlifts when the bar comes off the floor pretty good amount.Yes I agree its the most functional workout in the gym but to say its natural I disagree to a point being that when you lift something off the ground its almost always flat and you have to squat more lower .For some reason deadlifts just seem like a short range of motion. To me rock or boulder lifting is wear more strength and power is and its more full range
Would it be best to use this exercise on back or leg days, I've been bodybuilding 5 years , and must admit never done them. But thinking about adding them in now, also I've heard it's best to do them every other week? Is this true.
@Richthor1889 bro, im going to be using it on back, but let me explain, I might just be weird but on back day i don't feel sore or anything after, now that might just be me, but i feel deadlifts bigtime, like a good sore feeling not bad at all, and on leg day i get a good amount of soreness from the exercises im alrdy doing so yeah imo back day. If u listen to the twinmuscleworkout they say deadlifts are overrated, they are rite on everything except that.
That's not a hook grip, it's a mixed grip, and isn't necessary. It's mostly used for very heavy deadlifts because the weight can't roll out of your grip, like it tends to with an over- or underhand grip. Hook grip is when the bar rests in your grip, you close your thumb around it and your fingers then close around the bar and thumb.
You can check out my video on my channel aswell 500lbs x5. I did that a couple months ago i was 18 years old. I plan on repping 600 for 5, before next year
@losingthelostone well I'm like 5 10 and currently 158 lbs. id like to be right around 150, like a 32' inch waist. i wish i could just lose that 8 from my lower torso. i don't care about muscle too much, i just want less body fat. I've noticed my arms and legs are much more toned. i do 1 hour on the elliptical mon/tue, thu/fri. every 10 mins i increase the resistance. i also want to try swimming, to stretch out my whole body i feel cringe-y and not limber sometimes, bad posture
You don't want to do too much cardio if you're tryin' to build muscle, it counteracts. Try cardio 3 times a week and weights 4 to 5. It's also good to switch up your routine weekly, keep your muscles guessing and they'll grow faster.
so whats the best way to b a personal trainer really?? cause you can get them online in a matter of months or go to school which i askd n they said for me to major in exercise science. what do u all think???
Very good demonstration. Though I would personally recommend start doing this with your palms facing you. This improves your grip over time. When you increase weight so that you can't anymore hold grip, then do as the guy on the video suggests. After that use straps...If necessary.
Why I recommend this is because you'll be using same gripping strenght for example in your dumbell excercises and you can't use straps there. So, build grip here and apply it later on other excercises as well.
This guy is confused cuz he's wondering if he got enough protein... nervous cuz he let a protein fart out and worries if someone will smell it......watch the video again after reading this and see if it's TRUE !!
Squats are Deadlifts are the best strength building core exercises that release growth hormones in the body because they target so many large muscles. I have just recently started deadlifting and I have been missing out. There are many other core exercises that are important to muscle gains as well. The shoulder press, incline and flat bench/dumbbell press, lat pulldowns, etc all are great for targeting big muscles.
Why is this so disliked? I don't think I can actually find a video on youtube where someone disagrees on the technique of a dead lift or squats? I would Like to know the Proper technique lol.
@GBEHACH4 i know. I'm also looking for the proper technique. But there seems to be no one way. It's really difficult to learn when a lot of testosterone driven men (some adolescents) want everybody else to be wrong.

@AndyHarglesis I'm 20, 140lbs of FLAPPY, DRUG-FREE WEAKNESS and I can straight bar deadlift 100lbs COOKED AND LAX with PLAY-DO pathetic form, all straps, suit, EVERYTHING!
LOL ok you are 6'4 which is understandable...cause if you was the average height for a 13 year old your life would have been screwed ....that kind of weight would have WAY too much for the average size of 13 year old, especially if you arent taking care of your body....but good luck and keep it up!
@TheDeLaKore You can't be serious.. That kid is full of shit lmfao. Good Andy Harglesis. That is Mr. im13andcut. Do you seriously believe him? Lol. 2nd off. It doesn't matter how tall you are to lift a certain amount of weight.
@RthereNEusernames I actually dont...i was being sarcastic...and i never said anything about height and LIFTING weight...my focus was on knowing how tall he was compared to HIS weight...and yes that makes a difference

use the one-hand pronated grip only on maximum weights
never breath out while pulling the bar up, keep a deep breath inside your chest all the way
you have mixed-grip and hookgrip mixed up, hookgrip is when your thumb is under the indexfinger and middelfinger while holding the bar.

Dead lifts screw your lower back period. The lower back muscles are for
stabilization, not for heavy lifting. No physio or chiropractor I've
spoken to says you should do dead lifts or heavy squats.
They may build strength and size, but long term will damage
lower back and probably compress discs. Not worth it IMO.

@AndyHarglesis No offense but i find that to be unhealthy for a 13 yeard old 0__o
how tall ar you?
TheDeLaKore 6 months ago
@TheDeLaKore 6'4".
AndyHarglesis 6 months ago
@TheDeLaKore I'm all muscle as well, my lost friend! :P
AndyHarglesis 6 months ago
LOL ok you are 6'4 which is understandable...cause if you was the average height for a 13 year old your life would have been screwed ....that kind of weight would have WAY too much for the average size of 13 year old, especially if you arent taking care of your body....but good luck and keep it up!

@TheDeLaKore You can't be serious.. That kid is full of shit lmfao. Good Andy Harglesis. That is Mr. im13andcut. Do you seriously believe him? Lol. 2nd off. It doesn't matter how tall you are to lift a certain amount of weight.
RthereNEusernames 6 months ago
@RthereNEusernames I actually dont...i was being sarcastic...and i never said anything about height and LIFTING weight...my focus was on knowing how tall he was compared to HIS weight...and yes that makes a difference
TheDeLaKore 6 months ago
@TheDeLaKore No. You can be a 4'10" tall person, weighing 203lbs.. It doesn't matter lol.

you shouldn't be wearing shoes! they are designed to push your feet forward and you want to stay on your heels for deadlift and squats!!

FYI you rap your dominant hand over the bar using the lock or hook grip
brawly666 6 months ago
@brawly666 FYI it's wrap not rap
IFknHateUTube 6 months ago
@brawly666 Yes, you have to rap on the bar at least three times, until Arnold answers.

Can you do proper squats without a squat machine or a spotter? (trying to build muscle properly and as fast as possible)
whyeff21 6 months ago
@whyeff21 You won't get help from a machine, You don't "need" a spotter for squats either. Work on your form. Look at Rippetoe's squat stuff.
