Ive ridden down that bad boy. A whole day of riding and there was only one section of pedaling uphill. Incredible scenery. Its not that dangerous but if you fuck up badly youre going to pay the price. I did a much scarier ride in Bolivia in the mountains where I was way out of my league and nearly came off the side of a mountain. That road is in Los Yungas, Bolivia. It is so narrow that in some parts of it there are "flagmen" in the rain season. They announce when a car is driving "upwords" -because it returns that way from the Valey up to the Highland- so whoever is driving down to the Valeys has to stop, cause its too slippery for two vehicles to pass at the same time. It is worst than on the clip, believe me! Now imagine when the fog comes down!

I've been to South and Central America. The roads are crazy on those hills. I was hyperventilating on one bus ride. No guard rails anywhere. The worst is the land slides after the rain when there is no road left and nowhere else to go or turn around.

I drove both up and down this road. It is kind of spectacular but it's only "out of hand" dangerous during and just after a rain. They have people stopping kind of managing traffic at the severe turns. You want scary? Try landing at the La Paz airport. Half again as fast as on the coast.

Dude, did you drive back up again on a bike? Shit. I only drove down and then took the bus to Rerrenabaque. I swear to God, of all the trips in my life, that bus ride was the worst, it made the bike ride feel like a trip to the local supermarket.

About the landing at La Paz, I actually found it quite beautiful, coming in over the mountains from the East. Too bad I couldn't enjoy it fully as there wasn't enough oxygen due to the altitude hahahaha.

Driving on a bike is not that dangerous there. It is big enough for a car and two in a few places. Also not a lot of cars drive there anymore. It used to be a 2 way road, now it is only one way at different times. They should start renting cars near there and give you a prize for finishing the fastest. Or if you don't want to drive you get to be a passenger where a rally driver takes you there as quick and safe as he can.
