my 95 saleen has a cowl hood but i need it for engine clearence and keeps my underhood temps 40 degrees cooler when driving on the freeway. so the cowl hood was never built for clearence. look it up if you don't believe me.

lol some one said cowls are for carburetor clearence? what an idiot. holes in the hoos are for that or hood scoops. cowl hoods refer to "cowel induction" such as how your vent in your car get air, the vent in front of the windshield, it's a low pressure area which causes air to be sucked in effieciently and not being passed over by the wind. so a cowl hood sucks in colder more dense air, keeping underhood temps down. clearence is a socondary plus added by a cowl hood.

Actually, the base of the windshield is a high pressure area. And rather than the incoming air getting sucked in, its more jammed down the engines throat. Similar to ram air. They put it in the cowl because there's less likelihood of something getting sucked in like....a bird, rocks, insects, etc. Cowl hoods are primarily for engine clearance (on street vehicles). There's really no need for them otherwise.
