america-the best?!! well think again and start trying to solve your own problems before you go out with all your disgusting patriotism trying to hurt others!!!
America is not the richest country in the world. It ranks 8th in per capita income. Hate the wealthy? Give to the less fortunate? "Even the playing field" ? USA ranks 8th per capita income. Others are:
Brazil $8,135
Venezuela $11,444
India $1,054
China $3,212
Norway $72,300
Luxembourg $88,000
USA $45,835
To even the playing field, we must "de-develop the USA/rich countries" , redistribute the wealth globally (take your income). How does socialism look to you now?
Why is that when ever i see homless people in the US they are always black pushing a shopping trolly. In the Uk u get white men with dogs. If they cant sfford to feed themselves why have a dog. Also now in London we have Homeless gangs. These go around conning money out of people during busy times (christmas). It spoils it for the real homeless. Also many Immagrants sell their food vouchers and go to feeding stops for free food parcels. I work at a homeless centre it is not nice at all.
Dealit707, YOU SOUND LIKE A LOSER WHO NEEDS TO GET A LIFE. IF YOU REALLY ALL THAT YOU SAY U ARE YOU WOULD NOT WASTE SO MUCH TIME ON THE COMPUTER PUTTING THESE PEOPLE DOWN! I BET ANYTHING YOUR MOTHER IS ON SKID ROW AND THAT'S WHY YOUR HATING SO MUCH! LOL
sad indeed... when I feel down on myself and need motivation... I drive to skid row.. almost every time I see rats the size of small cats. at night they scurry around next to sleeping bodies..... defines the word sad
I have been to this neighborhood many times. Saddest sight you have ever seen. Roadette is right - in the 70s, progress was being made to cut poverty. We have failed these people.
They failed themselves. Don't lay that PC shit on me. 99% of these people are on the streets because they're fuck ups, drunks or drug addicts. If your stupid enough, why don't you waltz on down to skid row and fill their pockets with your fucking cash. Until you decide on that, save me your bleeding heart bullshit.
Society will always have fuckups like this no matter what you do. The more you give them free handouts, the easier you make it for them the sit on there asses.
All I can say is that humans living in these conditions is sad, anywhere. Personally I think it is there for us to see, individually. Your gut reaction and what you do when faced with it head on defines you, and only you. If you want to feed them great. If you want to fellowship and share knowldge of how to remove themselves from their condition, even greater, but don't waste your time debating others opinion/actions of what they see. Please somebody tell me..who is the musician in this video?
When I use to drive trough old downtown L A, and see these fuckups laying about sleeping off another hangover. I would think......"What a bunch of losers", then I would drive home in my fine car, sit down on my leather couch, pop a cold beer, turn on the tube....and relax. In no time at all, I would feel fine.
Life is what you make it......period. It may sound heartless to at lot of you PC robots out there, but, this has been going on since the beginning of mankind. You can't change it.
When there is nothing else on this world Tyrist, please do not judge, these people had not had the opportunity to go to school or came from very poor families. Don't judge so fast.
Jesus is the answer, however as a Christian and someone who is homeless I know there is far ore to it then just getting people to say "YES JESUS"
Passing out food and Bible verses is awesome, but where are you when they cant find work, fair housing and all the rest that goes with LIVING. Jesus is part of the answer, there is so much more.
yes, the government is supposed to carry the full load, for the people. all these people could be getting paid right now if they would just fill out the paperwork.
The paperwork down at the welfare office.. Section 8. You know? Anyone can get welfare. anyone... Specially if you are stupid or unemployed with children. Its easy. They just gotta fill out the paperwork.
shut up all of you, is it their own fault that they have mental disabilities, is it their own fault that they were born in a terrible family, is it their own fault that the government screwed over. No, if you think that it is their own fault you are ignorant and blind to the fact that these people were just not given the chance.
99% of these people are lazy fuckups, boozers or addicts. Years ago they would round them all up, and ship them off to the "Poor Houses", out in the country, were they couldn't get any booze or bother normal working folks. They would be fed, clothed and looked after.
Unfortunatly todays PC society would rather see these sad sacks roaming loose on the streets, to victimize each other, pissing and shitting all over the place.
99% ??? You may want to take a visit downtown and get a grip on reality. There are many folks there who were very productive and educated folks that lost their homes due to the current economic situation. Life is what you make it? Maybe one day you will open your eyes but I will not hold my breath.
wow i don't even remember commenting on this video. I would say 99% of the people is a gross overexertion. Im pretty sure you haven't personally talk to any of these people but you are just taking a glance at these people from your elevated status and just saying the reason they aren't like you is because they are lazy. While some are id say almost 80% are in their situation because of their relatively poor luck and bad situation. thanks for replying to my comment i left one year ago.
@mudbike also, you can't overlook that many of these people are in serious financial shape because of bad decisions.........doing drugs.....having children they can't afford etc
Hey, fear motivates me. Apparently, nothing motivates these people. They can take responsibility for their own lives. It's not the goverment's job to do that.
Europe is just as bad as the united states in it bad areas, don't be fooled this is a WORLD WIDE problem not local, it has to do with GREED and POWER and the illusion of democracy, think for yourself question authority.
Europe has more social safety nets than the US (which by the way are steadily being dismantled since the early 80s), but to say that this could not happen in Europe it simply not true.
There are homeless people in Europe, of course. And there is a lot of social tension as well, as shown by the riots of young men in the suburbs of France, because of the same causes of what we saw on the video: racism, unemployment, marginalization from society, etc.
Also, there are thousands of people in Europe, 2nd and even 3rd generation immigrants from North Africa, Turkey, etc, that despite having been born in Europe, do not have citizenship of their countries, and are sometimes deported to places where they have never been, do not speak the language, etc.
This is criminal behavior, and an example of how this can be just as bad (or worse) over there. The problem is the same, greed. Perhaps worse in the US, but it exists in Europe too.
let me guess all the "illegal immigrants" took their jobs lol....funny how black people complain about not being able to find jobs but as soon as an "illegal immigrant" crosses the border he is able to find a job
My neighbors, in my small home town, are part of "the other america." Sunday, March 2, 2 cop cars next door; cops always nearby after social security day; everyone high or drunk or fighting.

For all of you people who blubbered over Ronny Reagan's death, just remeber that his insidious policies as the governor of California led to the human rights violations which are taking place right now on L.A.'s skid row. Deregulating mental health services in the Golden State cut taxes for the rich, but it also sent hordes of sick, defenseless, needy people out onto dangerous and disease-ridden streets. How dare anyone call the United States the greatest country on earth!
GREAT VIDEO! I hope more people see this and take an interest in helping the mentally ill. It's too bad these people can't be given the help they need. The ACLU has fought the institutionalization of the mentally ill and drug addicts and we've ended up with this.
We all need to stop being so judgmental and quit averting our eyes when we see others suffering. We need to be the vehicles for God's love and not the instruments of Satan's cruelty and hatred. Think about it. Every day we are given choices to help or to ignore. Everything done on this earth will require an accounting to Jesus - how will you measure up when it's your turn????
Anyone is just a heartbeat from being homeless - if you don't believe it, just get sick for a month or 2, lose your job and your home, and this is where you will end up. Being homeless instantly turns you into a victim for anything that is out there. We all need to help however and whenever we see suffering or need, we can make this a better world. From your language, you have pretty high IQ and a good education. How well do you think you would do with an IQ of 80 or 85?
Jesus taught us to have compassion for those who have less than we do. I believe this means that I need to understand that not everyone is able to have my advantages: intelligence, creativity, educational and occupational opportunity. I understand that those blessings put an obligation on me to reach out and offer a hand to those less fortunate. Roadette
I agree with trevor. I believe this truly is the land of oppurtunity and that they have the chance to fix their lives. Anyone who is homeless and/or impoverished got that way because of the decisions they chose to make. And as for religion, it just makes excuses for the sad truths of reality.
Yeah the problem with that argument is that people don't make good decisions under stress and under pressure, which could well not be through their own fault. Acknowledge that and your argument collapses.
I worked with homeless in Ocean Side and San Diego.Let me tell any one who thinks that these people are worthless mentally ill and substance abusers. They diserve our help. To just disgard them is wrong.I saw lives turned around by acts of kindness.
ok look Have you ever talked with a homeless person the majority are crazy and drug addicts, and this is not an effect from living on the streets this is a cause
Yes, I have talked with homeless people. While some are mentally ill, alcoholics or drug addicts, it does not mean that we should not recognize tragedies; nor does it mean that we should not help and care for them until they can care for themselves--every religion demands compassion from its adherents. There are also homeless women and children who have lost their homes. Are we to ignore and discard them too?

You are a commie.
No no no. If you make minimum wage, it is best you suck off the tax payer for medical, dental, education, child care, housing, and food stamps.
Because fuck man, it is best the capitalist max out profits with all the money they refuse to pay you, and make the tax payer cover your cost.
You think this is the good old days when a person could earn their way in life.
Fuck no man, if is all about capitalist profits!!!!
They mean more then you, or the tax payer...
