  • My xenon runs around 55 C (cpu), 48 C (gpu) on idle, after playing, it goes up to 60 C (cpu) and 50 C (gpu). I have fsd, fans on 70-80%, and extra cooling fans on both of the heatsinks. I can't get it lower but I guess it's okay.

  • That fan that you added causes the xbox to run HOTTER! Sure, your results show the temperature of the xbox being lower. But, that is only the temperature of the heat sinks. The chips, underneath the heat sinks, are actually running hotter since you did the "STUPID" x-clamp replacement.

When you add a fan that runs off 12v it sucks power from the motherboard. And, I'm guessing that you are stealing power from the DVD drive. That causes the entire motherboard to work harder, producing more heat

  • @xHubbcap Well this "stupid" fix has resulted in the xbox running perectly for over 9 months now. Also, the results DO NOT show the temperature of the heatsinks - the heatsinks are just simple lumps of metal and contain no temperature reading technology whatsoever. The temperature readings are measured by the 360's onboard diagnostics system, which monitors the temperature of the chips.

You are correct that the 12v mod draws more power from the board, but this doesn't directly affect the GPU.

  • @uberd0gAlpha ...and as anyone who knows will tell you, the GPU overheating, causing board warping, is the main reason for the RRoD (although it is not the only reason. E74 is also common and this is caused by overheating of the HANA chip, which is situated 2cm behind the GPU. The two faults are closely related, Both are due to poor board design on early 360s and this is why MS extended the warranty in Europe from 1 to 3 years for consoles affected by either error)

  • The ONLY way to fix the RRoD (3 red lights or 1 red light) is to use a certified BGA Welder Station. And, the ONLY way to prevent the RRoD is to clean your xbox, of dust, once a week and to plug it directly into the wall socket. You should also replace your thermal paste every 8-12 months, however you must keep the x-clamps installed or you destroy the entire system.

  • @xHubbcap Then please explain how my RRoD console is now:

    A) Working again

    B) Still running smoothly 10 months later

    D) Not destroyed, despite having the xclamps removed

Also (and I may be being pedantic here) 3 red lights denotes a general hardware error. It can be caused by a corrupt HDD, faulty DVD drive, faulty connection or any number of things, so saying "The ONLY way to fix the RRoD is to use a certified BGA Welder Station" is just flat out wrong.

  • @uberd0gAlpha Agreed, I have fixed a fair few RROD consoles over the past few months and they still work. My JTAG RROD'd and I have used a couple of USB Fans to keep the temperature down and that is doing the trick at the moment. Im going to get my Talismoon fan 12V Hard Wired into my JTAG so I can finally put the casing back on. Ignore these people. X-Clamp Replacement + Replacement Fan = A 360 that is likely to work much longer than not.

  • The x-clamp "fix" ruins the xbox! It clamps the heat sinks and the chips together in an unfavorable fashion. This causes the solder balls to crystallize and crack causing unrepairable damage. There are over 2,000 solder balls within the chips. Do you really want to mess those up?

  • My GPU runs at 42-43'C & my CPU runs at 35-37'C with my mods...

  • @mmr061485 Xenon?

I've upped the mods on this console since posting this vid btw. I have two 80mm vents in the case, the DVD drive has been replaced with a 120mm fan, I have a 70mm fan strapped to the CPU heatsink, and I use Freestyle Dash with the fans set at 70%. The heat levels are 40'C for both.

I still have the Whisper installed, but I don't need to use the Nitro mode anymore, obv.

  • hey i will sell my jtag it has red rings of death but you seem like you could fix it up or something hit me up

  • see my video whit 3 fan at full speed ;)

  • i have the XCM High Speed Air Cooler v2 and it only gets up to 50-51C i can see the temp the whole time /watch?v=nvUEO7rPbKM thats my xbox

  • @HSmasteryoda It depends which motherboard you have. This one is the Xenon, subsequent revisions (Jasper, Zephyr, Falcon, Opus) were designed to run cooler.

    Xenons are notoriously hot.

  • @uberd0gAlpha ya i have a falcon elite

  • oi what did u download to you xbox to get the temperaTUR??

  • i've just played modern warfare 2 for an hour, then quickly booted into xexmenu to check the temperature - the GPU and CPU were both below 50°C so it's clear the whisper max does it's job. anyone worried about RRoD or has just done the xclamp fix would be wise to invest in a whisper max (unless they have the ability to mod the way you mentioned, in which case there are dozens of configurations available)
