  • just put a llimiter on the master channel but dont over use it or youll loose the harmonics of your track ? a good pair of ears and a good pair of monitors is the key. eq all the way :)

  • if he would turn off that beat, maybe we would understand somethin.. but judging from what i get, it seems to be a cool video.

  • Great info, thanks

  • nice guys! i really like your attitude towards mastering and the non use of limiters

  • So how do they stop the master from distorting if they don't put a limiter on it? Do they leave that to the person mastering it?

  • @joecmcreations yes and no, a bad mastering engineer can turn a track into a distaster, whereas a good one can transform it into something amazing. suffice to say, good and properly used compression is absolutely key.

  • they fell off..

  • wow

  • side chaining can ruin a tune.

  • @Hits0005 true...but rarely. If you crank the attack all the way up you barely notice it

  • blown away by the intimacy of the producer's secrets.

  • i think videos like this use allot of jargon that makes things sound allot more complicated than they really are

  • @stevesyphon I think your a fucking moron. Have you ever even tried to produce a song on software that isnt Garageband?

  • @BaronUnderbite oooohh theres a keyboard warrior if ever i saw one haha mong

  • aren't they stealing in a way, if there sampling full drums breaks from songs, shouldn't they create their own? just wondering

  • @mfoti92 Not really. They start off making their own break and then layer similar breaks with different qualities over the top. The dominant part of their break is the punchy kick and clean snare and hats. The other layers just add extra tonal qualities to something that already exists.

  • man thats some serious layering..

  • Im still very new to this and learning Reason but I found this very helpfull.

  • Which CM was this from ?

I seemed to have missed it :P

  • anyone know what them speakers are exactly?

  • @jaykeone Mackie hr 624, also the hr 824 are bigger versions which i know alot of drum & bass producers use.

    I personally have the 824's. ;)

  • whats the eq their ur using????

  • anyone understand what they mean by 'driving the master'? If they dont use a limiter how do they drive the master without digital clipping?

  • @BudgeBurnley what they're saying is in order to master the track and get things balanced in the mix, overdrive the master channel and if say the kick distorts first, you know the kick is too loud in the mix and needs turning down. they will turn down the master channel after 'driving' it. its basically to 'check' levels. hope this helps

  • well thats the drum part sorted, now what about the bass? :P

  • @TandTProject check out xample and lomaxs tutorial, they give tips on intros, basslines, using vocals..

  • What monitors are they using ?

  • great tutorial , very well explained. top guyz

  • good tut..reminds me of old school tut from ed & opt

  • i love these tutorials. best advice ive had so far! and glad u clarified about sidechain :)

  • For the love of god buy the CM cameraman a fucking tripod.

  • are they using NI MASSIVE ?

  • @SplashDubstep I think so. sub focus uses it in his tutorial

  • Great tips. I wanna thank you for getting me laid with Eastern jam woofing about in my car a bunch of times. Big up!

  • pros.

  • thanks for posting this :-)

  • clark seems to push it hard without loosing shape...

    *cry*

  • Cheers guys, was really helpful :)

  • anyone recognize that spectral analyzer plugin?

  • @streetxlite inspector xl

  • @djtee2k7

thx mate, i'll look into it

  • They make it look so simple!

saying that, there is some really good pointers in here that'll make my beats sound much cleaner

  • finally a tutorial not for noobs - cheers guys!

  • the tips on frequencies and layering loads of things at a high end really transforms the atmosphere from a robotic dirge into an organic blast

  • whats the spectrum analizer they are using?

  • i believe its Digital InspectorXL @erbmanmusic

  • Phenomenal tutorial so much here to work with. Top tips from the masters thanks boys.

  • this is one of the best videos for producing tips on youtube

  • yeah i think so too - i really can use it

  • ty for posting this

  • good stuff

  • This isn't a tutorial for the people who don't understand what EQ means, or Breaks, or HP, frequencies etc, etc...learn what it all means before you wanna use this as a remote tutorial...i say its more Tips and Advice than a tutorial

  • So they are laying loads of different breaks on top of each other? Do you keep for example the amen break running all the way through and then add fills and rolls with it still going on underneath? I'm trying to understand the concept. I thought breaks were just done with kick snare and open/closed hats. i guess its to build depth?

  • the amen breaks are just 'clever' high hats. It's a blur in the back ground to keep the motion moving, essentialy clouding up the upper to upper mid freq's. So basicly consitantly all the way through the track mate. ;)

  • what software are they usin' and what do they mean when they say EQ with brakes??

  • @coolycool3000 They're using Logic Pro. And EQing BREAKS means that they add or remove frequencies using an equalizer for their breaks. And by breaks they mean breakBEATS.

  • lol,they usin cubase!

  • @BumpinOrchestra

    Cubase is quality.

  • duh, have u seen how much it costs?! it better be quality....

  • @willdoesthisforfun

Yeah it is really expensive...if you pay for it

    *Shifty eyes*

But although Logic is more user friendly, Cubase owns when sampling etc. Plugins work better for it I feel also.

  • Renoise is ownage for sampling

  • logic is fairly user friendly but i would never waste my time with 8 or 9. I have them because i have to but given the choice i'll use anything else

  • It wont be good if you dont know how to use it..

  • logic on a pc? you sure its not cubase or samplitude or sumthing similar? it may well be an old version of logic tho. and EQing breaks. well a break is basicly a broken beat. so a beat with a syncopated rhythm. and EQing them, so cutting all the bass or lower end out of one break so it dosnt conflict with the other. its all about making space for other things, especialy in fast dance music.

  • I think it stopped a logic 5 for p.c.

  • @kodilax lol.. they're using cubase u dimlo

  • @coolycool3000 Oops and I was wrong. They are using Cubase. Not Logic Pro.

  • that for this vid! Kinda backs up my point of not using Maximizers and limiters on tracks. Although I need to start practicing NOT compressing the shit out of my kicks and snares and also eq'ing the fuck out them....I have a bad habit of doing that....

  • nice to see him thanking someone for help!

most make out they learned it all on their own and are up there own asses.

  • looks like they're adding so many layers at a similar frequency, when i try something similar they always conflict

  • The analyzer is Inspector XL

  • wicked vid, thanks for the upload!

  • what spectral analyzer is that?

  • Elemental IXL Spectrum analyzer

  • doesnt really matter

  • anyone know what eq there usin aswell?????

  • it shouldnt matter lol. all EQ is the same

  • i no yeh but the cubase 1 is a bag of shit n i cnt get the waves pack workin for the one i want (renissance eq)... any suggestions for a good 1???

  • well....if you have an insanely good computer, you could use the EQ from izotope

  • any one no wat freq analyser there usin?? :S

  • Comment removed

  • inspector xl chase and status analyser

  • where is the rest mate

  • wot software do you use

  • Cubase

  • Seems like nice guys, with helpfful tips !

  • whats the spec analyzer they're using?

and... more importantly... is it cheap?

  • lol. you know it is for you know free. :P

  • did you find out the analyzer?

  • nope :(

  • Inspector XL

  • Comment removed

  • Im interested in this but I solely use Logic, would people advise starting to use cubase, or can I make just as good music with Logic???

  • Logic, in my opinion, is a superior program to Cubase.

  • Im getting Cubase due to so many people I see using it :)

  • Except that it only runs on Mac, which makes it a piece of gay crap by definition. :P

  • im using logic express 8, and finding it hard to make decent dnb bass lines, if your having trouble with dnb stuff, look into getting "massive" its a bass plug in, sub focus uses it.

  • U can produce tight ass grooves with any program :'D

  • get massive trust me!

  • good tip on the mastering side

  • fuck! i want those mackies!

  • anyone know how to make that shuffle

  • it's a sick break but i don't like the shuffle

  • nah the shuffle grows on you trust me, i know they over done it but i'm starting to like all that shuffel.

my breaks starting to sound sick now i have watched this!

  • the way that the other guy drowns out what hes saying by turning the moniters up is so rude!

Great tutorial though guys, helped me out bare, nuff respect!

  • lol yeah init, its the kinda thing i would do without relizing

  • It's Jeskola Buzz Machines.

  • chill out u cuebase penny lickers so what he said it wrong. and what

  • its cubase dumb fucks

  • what vsti's?

  • Synths and such

  • its cubase

  • Its cubase you skatty fuckers.

  • analyzer is InspectorXL by elemental audio

  • Bit late for a reply, but thanks man.

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the analyser they are using?

  • hahaha dude its cubase not pro tools or FL studio hahaha lol

  • sick snare!!!! bigup!

  • WOW, that vid is incredible. Made me rethink the whole sidechaining, compression stuff.

  • sorry men , i dont use reason ,but think what the tips work in ramdon software, (fl studio, cubase, ableton , etc)

  • @hyosukehino eh? of cors it works on other software, any good software has the ability to sample and eq and compress etc. i use ableton and its a dream to use, the most ease of use software ive ever used and by no means a bad one. if you have a basic idea of what you're doing, all of this can all be achieved

  • Fuckin sick man but its FL do you know how to use Reason??

  • Hmmm, dont think that is FL mate, looks more like Cubase(?) to me.

Reason is a piece of piss, just keep fiddling about with it, you will get the hang of it in no time...

  • I think it may be protools...

  • CUBASE
