  • If it helps, the way you guys are saying the name of the band is pronounced "Yeah-soo" is the word in Greek for cheers, or salud.

  • Dammit, this followed by Neurosis is the most depressing songset I've listened to all night! ;P It's a pity party, and you're all invited!

  • This... is boring. And kind of sloppy. But I'm willing to give them a few more tries.

  • Fun fact: This is probably the concert that Mark Kozelek attended, the Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters guy who signed Jesu to his record label.

  • Justin IS A GENIUS!

  • Jesu has a stage presence and quality akin to Joy Division. Mesmerizing.

  • justin....thank you so much

  • these guys are great to say the least. they remotely remind me of Codeine.

  • i've seen interviews with justin, and he pronouncews it "jeh-zoo". that's good enough for me.

  • One of the greatest shows I have ever been to.

  • Listen to Godflesh too, the previous band ;)

  • I have 'We All Falter" tattooed on the bottom of my foot

    hail justin

  • @wrestlemania4lyf Woah, don't go too fanboyish there, lad.

  • Who's on drums?

  • @zombiegod Danny Walker (Intronaut, Phobia, Murder Construct, Uphill Battle, Bastard Noise, Exhumed, Bad Acid Trip...)

  • Justin is the musician that i respect most.

  • Jay-suh

  • So its Yazoo, not Jez-hoo :-)

Oh and that bass is FILTHY

  • SF is one of the best places to live in the world. Amazing weather, loaded with babes, and all the cool but somewhat obscure bands go through there.

  • This is mesmerizing, this album is Justin's crowning achievement...fuckin brilliant!

  • does anyone know if this band uses keyboards or the electronics are all on computer?

if anyone could tell me that'd be great

  • It's pronounces "HAH-SOOSA!" nah i dunno LOL, me and my friend make ridiculous pronounciations for Jesu, thought i'd share. LMAO

  • fucken siikkk!!!

  • is this positive :) Jesu is also about selfhate i think but in more desperate way

  • AMAZING MAAAANNN!!!!!

  • Godfleh was about selfhate, but jesu is concentrating on the positive.

  • Positive music that is absurdly melancholy. Interesting opinion that you have there.

  • yaysoo

  • my skin is tingling with musical sensation

  • I'm speechless...i just can say ....HOLY SHIT! What a masterpiece of music...

  • Wait a minute. Is Jesu pronounced "JAY-SOO" or "HAY-SOO" or what?

  • more like yeah-soo ;)

  • @dunnotshake

    more like [e-é z u] no ?

    sounds in english :

-e like "everything starts with an E"

-é .. this sound im not sure exists in english ... but it s like é (e accent égue in french .. or just e in dutch ... this is also the stress syllable

-z .. just like in english "zen"

-u like in english "you" but without the y ...

no, i didnt take the wrong drugs when i wrote this ;)

there is on youtube something where JK pronounces Jesu a few times ...

  • @kukinho666 yes, but Jesu is "jesus" in Hebrew... And the first time I heard "jesu" pronounced Yee-zoo, was in a "Reality Asylum", a song by Crass, one of Justin's fav. punk bands.

  • @dunnotshake Ah, thanks, I didn't know that. For pronunciation there is that phonetic script that they use in dictionnaries and stuff .... but i lost it ... :(

  • @dunnotshake Jesu is not Hebrew. In Hebrew it is Yeshua.

  • jaysoo...

  • @SP1R1TCRUSH3R OK thanks! I've been wondering about that lately.

  • @MasterKrispy01 YAY-ZU

  • @MasterKrispy01 'yay-soo

  • @MasterKrispy01 in the song "Jesu" by Godflesh (Broadrick's last band before this one) he pronounces it something "yea soo". The Godflesh album with "Jesu" on it is "hymns". I'm sure somebody posted the song on youtube. I know it's a year since you posted this but had to put in my two cents.

  • @MasterKrispy01 you can listen to the Godflesh song Jesu off the Hymns album for the pronounciation. Cheers!

  • GODFLESH RULEZ

  • Justin is awesome. Everything in his entire musical career is line blurring and inteste, all the way from "Scum" with Napalm Death, to the transition from the very last Godflesh song "Jesu" to what he does now in Jesu, and (everything in between, Final, Head Of Dead etc.) Amazing artist, brings new meaning to the word heavy.

  • cool how this guy was in napalm death and is now making this kind of music.

  • He had a nervous breakdown

  • eroticmisery dont forget nic bullen with black galaxy or andy swan ( of final) who now has iroha which also contains dirmaund of jesu on bass.

  • what a beautiful song

  • You know what I heard this in my dream last night while I was driving around haha.

It makes me fee more free, take walks, enjoy the scenery, smoke some weed.

Just wanna fly through the clouds, this shit lifts me(its not shit though).

  • My favorite album by them, sounds so familuar and gives me joy. The little picture is familuar at the sametime its not, w/e.

  • j Broadrick is Amazing....

  • this guy rules

  • In my opinion Justin and Mick Harris are the only ones that made it out of the old grind core scene that still makes good music and not wack ass 70's stoner metal.

  • hell yes. agree with you on 1000 %!

  • I 9th that...

  • scorn?

  • @eroticmisery I like wack ass 70's stoner metal. So do many others, blues will never die! This is just as bomb though.

  • fucking amazing, best band in the world,as was Godflesh before this!

  • In an interview Justin said that he likes to smoke cannabis before doing a gig, and that some of his best shows have been when ever he was high. I wonder if he is in this?

  • yes, if you know Justin, you know he likes weed a lot haha.

  • music sounds better when high, he can't know if he really gave his best gigs while high it just sounded that way to him.

  • i lol'd

  • Nice job B!

  • brilliant

  • The more you listen the more it changes. Justin is by far the greatest...

  • i love jesu,pure brill

  • BEAAAASSSTTTTTTSSS!

  • The harmonic guitar parts toward the end make me cry.

    Jesu are legends.

    x

  • Quite perfect video/audio quality dude

Thank you very much for this up!

  • Love this song.. it makes me drift off

  • Omigosh, the quality of this video is astounding. And Jesu is amazing, of course.

  • this is perfect.

  • i've downloaded one of jesu tracks of the net by mistake a while ago

then i got hold of an entire album

    amazing band, very unique...

  • Looks like Diarmuid plays warwick fours. I think his set up is ampeg but I'm just guessing here.

I know that Justin uses 7 strings, schecters I think.

  • It's actually Dave Cochrane (Head of David, God, Sweet Tooth) who's playing the bass on this video.

And his amp is indeed an Ampeg, that he bought off Isis'bass player. He also uses a Rat pedal.

  • They also tune to A.

  • Cool, you know, I've been wondering if Justin uses 7 strings. Thanks a lot.

  • no he doesn't...he uses dropC 6 strings as far as i know. :D

  • I do believe that's Danny Walker from Intronaut and Uphill Battle on drums. Great stickman and nice dude

  • indeed very chill guy.

  • what kind of bass is that? does anyone know? i wish i knew his setup because that sounds killer...

  • Looks like a Warwick, but I am not sure.

  • What venue was this in?

  • Bimbo's, I believe.

  • Yes it was.

  • Was actually at this show, and equipment problems or not, the evening pretty much ended up Jesu>Isis!

    Great song, great band!

  • I Love the music of Justin i always did since the bigining.. it only gets better & better !

  • Wow, I like them. Great song!

  • there is a reason why there name is so close to jesus..because they fucking rok

  • Is the name of a Godflesh song (old Justin's band)

  • That bass sounds fucking sexy as.

    -drools a bit-

  • Jesu were incredible in SF last night. Very intense, even with equipment problems they still sounded great. Very pleased to see a huge turnout, and what a great set they played

  • Holy crap! That's me yelling "I've been waiting 12 years for this shit" Awesome!

Going to see them again tonight. I guess this time, I'll only have waited 7 months for this shit again. Man, Thanks for posting this and getting me nice and stoked for tonights show at the Great American Music Hall. Cheers!

  • tsk tsk. potty mouth Jason! :)

  • Dude you're famous.

  • What did Justin say? I can't really make out what he says in this video.

  • "Let's hope you don't wait another 12."

  • @raygun01 Seems like you have been a fan of them a long time. They are new to me. One of those band I out on the back burner "to listen to". Anyway, want to point me in the right direction of soe of their more triumphant releases?

  • woooo saw jesu tonight in sacramento.

they sounded great live... but a short set, and a pretty shitty turnout... after the show went out back and at least got to chat briefly with Justin. Class act very polite, very friendly.

  • Bass rules)

  • wow they sound different live

  • JMA you are the man!

  • total, blatant Sisters of Mercy plagarism from the bass player!!! god Eldritch could sue

  • No he can't. Only melodies and lyrics can be copywritten. Not chords, not a guitar solo and not a bassline. Plus, I'm not hearing it.

  • "Fix" from the Reptile House ep released in 1983

I still love the Jesu song though!!!! yeahhhhh

  • I actually prefer this version to the album

And to the guy in the crowd saying you waited twelve years......us down here in oz have never had the chance to see either Godflesh or Jesu so consider yourselves very lucky!

Justin, get the F#$k down here already!lol

  • rite on! just completeled my vinyl collection of Jesu and I'm celebrating with this vid. thanks!

  • great stuff! love Conqueror!

  • when that dude yells about his 12 years...i was right with him....fuckin awesome

  • excellent video

  • was this at BIMBO'S ?

  • Yup.

  • Yes.

  • fuckin nice posting! lucky

  • Incredible. I'm lost for words.

  • I was there!

    Great show!

  • I was there!!! Great show, Isis killed.

Great sound on your video too.

  • Lovely guitar work on this!

  • fucking missed the show this was the one with isis... fucking work took me out of town for the week.. fuck!!!!!

    well glad you posted it

  • Great sound for a live recording. This is my favorite Jesu song!

  • hey these guys kinda sound like monotremata a bit! :D

  • this was one of the best goddamn shows i've seen in my life. i wasn't expecting those mosh pits shortly after either!
